Mag-log inIt hurts to even say they should end things.
Knox let out a short, humorless breath. “No, I know why you think it has to end. There’s a…” he let out a small breath. “Fuck…there is a difference.” Kendra’s throat tightened. She expected anger. She has prepared herself for begging. She did not prepare herself for the way he was looking at her, like the truth had hurt him and he had already decided the pain was acceptable. “I still want you,” he said firmly. “I still wake up hard because I dreamed about you. I still reach for my phone at three in the morning to tell you something that doesn’t matter. My feelings didn't fade because of a blood test.” “It should have.” Kendra answered. “It didn’t.” He reached for her hand. She let him take it for one second, two, then pulled free. The loss of contact made her chest ache. “I love you,” she admitted . “I still do. That’s the problem. If I didn’t, this would be easy. I could walk away and not look back. But I do, and that doesn’t change what we are. You’re my brother, Knox. My half-brother.” Her face turned a little pale. “I can’t keep pretending the word doesn’t exist.” His eyes darkened. “Say it again.” “What?” “Call me that. Look at me and call me your brother like it’s supposed to make me stop wanting you.” he smirked, his mouth moved. She stared at him. The demand sat between them, ugly and precise. “You’re my brother.” she whispered Knox stepped closer, her heartbeat raced, but she didn’t move. His hand came up and settled at the side of her neck, thumb resting just under her jaw. Her lips parted slightly, and her fingers shook. The touch was familiar and it mhat made her pulse jump against his skin. “I heard you,” he said, his voice deep. “Now tell me you don’t want me to kiss you right now.” Kendra’s breath caught. She bit her lips, fuck he's not making it easy for her. “I can’t do this,” she whispered, her lashes shaking. “You can, you just won’t do that.” His thumb brushed the corner of her mouth. “Because you’re scared. Because you think wanting me makes you a terrible person. It doesn’t. We didn’t know. We didn’t choose this. The only choice we have left is what we do with it, if it's a fucking sin, then let's drown it in and if you don’t wanna drown in .” “There is no choice.” “There is always a choice.” His voice dropped. “I’m choosing you. I’ve been choosing you every day since that night. You can keep running from it if you want, but don’t stand here and tell me it’s over when your hands are still shaking and you haven’t stepped out of my reach.” Kendra turned her face away. Tears filled her eyes. “I have to.” “Why?” “Because if I don’t, I’ll hate myself later. Emily keeps saying that. Do the thing you won’t regret. I already regret it so much and I don’t want to add this.” Knox was quiet for a long moment. “I was going to marry you.” he smiled bitterly. The sentence cracked something in her. She closed her eyes. “I had a ring,” he continued, his eyes filled with emotions as if he was gonna cry. “I was going to take you somewhere quiet after everything was fine and ask you properly. I had already looked at houses. I had already pictured what our mornings would look like. None of that disappeared because your grandmother opened her mouth.” “Stop.” she objected. “No.” His forehead rested against hers. “You don’t get to end us and pretend I never planned a life with you. You don’t get to say you love me and then ask me to act like it never mattered.” Kendra’s hands came up and gripped his shirt. She meant to push him away but she didn’t. “It mattered. It still matters. That’s why I’m doing this. If I stay, we’ll keep finding reasons to touch. We’ll keep finding excuses. And one day we’ll wake up and realize we became people who couldn’t look at each other without remembering what we ignored. I don’t want that for either of us.” Knox’s arms slid around her. He held her the way he always had, one hand at the small of her back, the other between her shoulder blades, pulling her in until there was no space left. She let him. For a few seconds she let herself breathe against his chest and pretended the last four weeks were just a minute. “I don’t care what we become,” he said against her hair. “As long as I’m still allowed to want you.” “You’re not.” Kendra pulled back. It took more strength than she had. She wiped her face with the heel of her hand and forced herself to meet his eyes. “I need you to leave,” she said. “Not just this room. I need you to stop calling. Stop showing up. Stop looking at me like you’re waiting for me to change my mind. I’m not going to. The truth doesn’t go away because we want each other. It just sits there and waits for us to slip, I won’t slip.” Knox studied her. Something in his expression shifted, not acceptance, but recognition. He had heard the difference between pain and resolve. “You still love me,” he said. “Yes.” “And you still want me.” She didn’t answer. He nodded once, slow. “All right.” He didn’t reach for her again. He walked to the door, opened it, and paused. Her voice was loud enough to make Tia glance between them.Kendra's expression became unreadable. She had expected this reaction, but hearing Mrs. Harrington say it so openly still made her uncomfortable.Tia lowered her apple slightly, trying to hide the satisfaction spreading across her face. She knew Mrs. Harrington would never support their relationship. In fact, she had been waiting for an opportunity like this.Knox, however, wasn't interested in allowing his mother to dictate his relationship. He turned towards Kendra, reached for her hand again, and held it firmly."I know exactly who she is to me," he replied.Mrs. Harrington scoffed. "Then why are you standing here holding her hand as though nothing has happened?""Because she's the only woman I love, and I don't think my heart will ever belong to anyone else, Mother."Kendra looked up at him. His words were simple, but the certainty in his voice made her heart flutter.Mrs. Harrington shook her head. "Knox, she's your...""
(Harrington Mansion)Knox pulled the car to a stop in the car park inside the Harrington mansion and switched off the engine. He glanced at Kendra, who was busy adjusting her dress, before reaching for his seat belt."Ready?" he asked.Kendra looked at him and gave a small nod, although the nervousness written across her face betrayed her answer."Are you sure you want to do this?" she asked quietly.Knox chuckled, stretching his hand towards her cheek. "We've been over this already, haven't we?""I know, but your mother...""My mother will be fine." He raised an eyebrow, pretending to be confused.Kendra rolled her eyes. "You know exactly what I'm talking about. She doesn't like me, and after everything that happened, I doubt she'll be happy to see us together."Knox leaned closer and placed a gentle kiss on her forehead."Listen to me. We're not doing anything wrong by being honest about our feelings. I don't care what anyone thinks, Kendra. I love you, and I'm not going to pretend
(Thompson Mansion)Richard sat opposite his father in the study, his attention fixed on the phone in his hand. The room was spacious, with dark wooden shelves covering one side of the wall and several expensive paintings decorating the remaining spaces. A glass of untouched whiskey sat on the table between them.Victor had been watching his son for minutes.Richard hasn't said much since he entered the room. He had simply taken his seat, brought out his phone, and remained occupied with whatever was on the screen. But Victor knew exactly what he was looking at.Kendra's photograph. He noticed it earlier, and although he hasn't commented on it, he couldn't help wondering how his son was handling everything. The revelation had affected the entire family, but Richard had probably taken it harder than anyone else.He had spent years believing Knox was his greatest rival, that his stepbrother was his enemy. Their father had constantly compared them, and Richard had grown up feeling that n
[(Kendra's Apartment)—Next Morning] Kendra opened her eyes slowly. The room was quiet, her hand moved across the sheet beside her, palm flat, searching for heat or the weight of a body that wasn’t there. Nothing. The other side of the bed was cool, the pillow barely dented. She smiled anyway, and sat up. The blanket slipped, and she caught it, wrapping it around herself as she stood. Her legs were unsteady for a moment; Knox didn’t let her go until she pretended to be asleep. In the bathroom she let the water run hot. Steam fogged the mirror before she stepped under the spray. She washed slowly, fingers pausing over the tender spot on the side of her neck. The hickey was darker this morning, a clear bloom of red-purple against her skin. When she stepped out and dried off her body with a towel. The necklace Knox had given her was already waiting on the counter. She fastened it carefully, the pendant settling just above the mark. Emily stepped through the heavy front door of Sean’s mansion and paused just inside, the quiet wrapping around her like a held breath. The place always felt too big when he wasn’t already talking, teasing her and especially when it's been so long they talked. She walked slowly into the living room, shoes silent on the marble, and sat on one of the sofas. Her hands stayed in her lap. She didn’t want to come. Or rather, she had wanted to and that was the problem. She turned him down, because of one stupid guy who didn't even deserve her. Seeing him after hurting his feelings was so embarrassing. Sean appeared a few minutes later still in his suit, jacket open, tie loosened but not gone. He stopped when he saw her, and Emily’s eyes moved over him before she could stop them—shoulders, the line of his throat above the collar, the way the fabric pulled across his chest when he shifted. “You can just admit it,” he said, voice low and amused. “You’ve never seen anyone as handsome
Kendra's palm stung from the impact, the sharp crack echoing across the now-silent executive floor like a gunshot. Richard staggered back a step, his hand flying to his reddening cheek, eyes wide with shock and fury. For a second, the great Richard Thompson looked small—vulnerable, exposed under
Richard's fingers tightened around the documents. His face darkened with every page he turned. The confidence that had always surrounded him was beginning to crack."Kendra. What exactly are you trying to do? Because I chose your friend and you..."Kendra folded her arms. "No, no. If you'd rather c
Richard's hand froze where it rested on Freya's waist and Freya pulled away from the kiss. Freya's face drained of color when she saw Kendra, she stood up from his laps and Richard immediately stood from his chair. "Kendra—" Kendra simply stared at both of them, the sight before her should have
Richard grabbed Kendra's wrist and pulled her into the bedroom. She stumbled forward from the force of it, catching herself before she could fall and the door slammed shut behind them."What was that out there?"
