“Isn’t this supposed to be her house?”

The words were barely more than a whisper, yet sharp enough to cut through the soft hum of conversation in the ballroom. Zoey caught them as she passed by, a tray of appetizers balanced carefully in her hands, her heels clicking softly against the polished floor. Two women lingered near the buffet table, their eyes narrowing as they exchanged knowing glances.

For a moment, Zoey froze, feeling their gaze sweep over her, linger on her in a way that made her stomach tighten. Then their attention drifted to the center of the room, where Caleb and Linda stood hand in hand, framed by the glittering chandelier above them. They looked effortless, untouchable—the perfect picture of the night’s focal point.

Zoey’s fingers clenched around the edges of the tray, the porcelain threatening to slip beneath her grip. She had spent the better part of the day orchestrating every last detail of the evening—from the perfectly aligned centerpieces to the meticulously curated playlist—and yet, it seemed as though her presence, her labor, barely registered with anyone.

Instead, the room’s eyes were glued to Linda, the supposed jewel of the night, as if she alone deserved the admiration and whispers. Zoey drew in a steadying breath, forcing herself to lift her chin, to maintain the calm poise she had cultivated through years of practice, even as a small, bitter pulse of irritation flared beneath her ribs.

It wasn’t just unfair—it was infuriating.

“Zoey!” Linda’s high-pitched voice sliced through the air, silencing the murmurs.

Zoey turned, her steps measured, as she walked toward the couple. Linda’s smile was sweet, but her tone was anything but.

“Could you be a dear and let the staff know the dessert service is taking too long? It’s terribly embarrassing for such a grand event, don’t you think?” Linda’s eyes glinted with mock concern.

Caleb said nothing, sipping his champagne, his eyes scanning the crowd as if his wife didn’t exist.

“I’ll see to it,” Zoey replied evenly, though the words tasted bitter on her tongue.

As she turned to leave, Linda’s voice stopped her again. “Oh, and Zoey?”

Zoey paused, her back straight. “Yes?”

Linda’s smile widened, dripping with false charm. “You might want to take notes on how to host an event like this. I’d hate for you to feel overshadowed in your own home.”

The room erupted in polite laughter, though Zoey could see some guests averting their eyes, uncomfortable with the blatant insult.

Caleb chuckled softly, leaning closer to Linda. “She’ll learn,” he said dismissively.

Zoey felt the sting of humiliation burn deep, but she refused to let it show. She gave Linda a curt nod and walked away, her heart pounding in her chest.

When she moved away from the ballroom, she halted at a distance and turned to watch as Caleb and Linda basked in the attention of the crowd.

Linda laughed at something Caleb said, her hand resting on his arm possessively.

“Quite the pair, aren’t they?”

Zoey turned to see her father-in-law, Lord Alcantara, standing beside her. His eyes, sharp and knowing, were fixed on the couple.

“Quite,” Zoey replied, her voice flat.

He glanced at her, his expression unreadable. “And what do you plan to do about it?”

The question caught her off guard. “Do about it?”

“You’re not one to sit quietly and let the world trample you, Zoey,” he said, his tone low. “I didn’t bring you into this family to be a bystander.”

Zoey looked at him, searching his face for any sign of the man who had once shown her kindness. “You brought me here to serve Caleb’s ambitions. That’s all I’ve ever been to him—a tool.”

His eyes narrowed. “Caleb doesn’t understand the value of what he has. But that doesn’t mean you should let him or anyone else diminish you.”

The sound of the helicopters grew louder, their blades slicing through the air like thunder. The lights on the yacht’s deck were almost blinding, forcing everyone to shield their eyes. Caleb’s guards gripped their weapons tightly, waiting for his command. And then, a booming voice echoed through the chaos, authoritative and undeniable.“This is President Santos. Caleb Alcantara, stand down immediately.”Celine’s breath caught. Her father’s voice was clear and firm, cutting through the tension like a knife. She looked up, tears welling in her eyes, as one of the helicopters circled lower.“Caleb,” the president continued, his tone cold, “we have been tracking you for months. There is no escape. Surrender now, and no one else will get hurt.”Caleb’s jaw clenched, his expression hardening. He raised his hand, motioning for his men to hold their positions. “Bluffing won’t work on me, Mr. President!” he called out, his voice filled with defiance.Celine could see the fire in his eyes, the

The sight of Linda tied up and bruised made Celine’s stomach turn. Her golden hair was matted, and her wrists were bound tightly behind her back, the gag muffling her weak cries. The once confident and cunning woman was now utterly helpless.“Caleb, what is this?” Celine demanded, her voice trembling. “Release her. Now!”Caleb stood tall, his expression void of remorse. “Linda overstepped her bounds,” he said coldly. “She thought she could play both sides and come out on top. No one betrays me, Celine—not even her.”“She’s not your enemy!” Celine cried. “Let her go. You’ve made your point.”Caleb tilted his head, his calm demeanor slipping into something more menacing. “You misunderstand, my love. This isn’t about her anymore. It’s about you.”Caleb turned toward his guards, gesturing for one of them to step forward. The man handed him a sleek handgun, which Caleb inspected briefly before turning back to Celine.“If you want Linda freed,” he said, his voice cutting through the tense a

The gentle sway of the yacht and the glittering reflection of moonlight on the water did little to calm Celine’s nerves. The air was thick with tension, and every passing moment felt like the calm before an inevitable storm. Caleb sat across from her at the elegant dining table set up on the deck, his demeanor deceptively warm.“You’ve been quiet tonight, Celine,” Caleb said, pouring her a glass of wine. His smile was soft, but there was something sharp behind it—something that made her stomach twist.“I’m just tired,” she replied, forcing a small smile of her own.Caleb tilted his head, studying her with unnerving precision. “You’ve been tired a lot lately. I hope you’re not doubting me again.”Her grip tightened around her glass, but she kept her tone light. “Of course not. I’m just trying to adjust. It’s been… overwhelming.”Caleb reached across the table, his hand brushing hers. The gesture would have seemed tender to an outsider, but to Celine, it felt suffocating. “You’ll see, m

The palace was buzzing with activity as Caleb prepared for his latest maneuver. Celine stood in the corner of their shared office, watching him command the room with his usual mix of charm and authority. His voice was smooth, but every word carried an undercurrent of control.“This meeting is critical,” Caleb said to a group of advisors. “It will demonstrate our stability and strength. Celine, of course, will be there to represent the Santos legacy.”Her stomach twisted as he turned toward her, his smile warm yet calculated.“You’ll attend, won’t you, my love?” he asked, his tone leaving little room for refusal.Celine nodded, forcing a smile. “Of course.”Inside, her mind was racing. She knew this wasn’t just a political meeting. Caleb was setting a trap, one she was certain involved Dimitri. The following morning, Celine found herself seated at the head of a long conference table, flanked by Caleb and several high-ranking officials. The room was oppressively formal, with Caleb leadi

The imposing gates of the presidential palace loomed before Celine as the car pulled to a stop. Her hands were folded tightly in her lap, though her knuckles betrayed her tension. She had returned to the very place she had escaped from, not because she wanted to, but because she had to.“Are you sure about this?” Dimitri had asked her before she left the Montenegro villa.“No,” she had admitted, her voice trembling. “But it’s the only way to get the evidence we need to bring Caleb down. He’s never going to let me go unless I take back control.”Now, as she stepped out of the car and into the shadow of the palace, Celine forced herself to play the part she’d rehearsed. Her face was a mask of calm, her movements deliberate. To Caleb, she would appear as the dutiful wife returning home to reconcile. Beneath the surface, every step she took was calculated.Caleb greeted her at the main entrance, his expression warm, his arms outstretched. “Celine,” he said, his voice soft but rehearsed.“

At the Alcantara estate, Caleb gathers his inner circle to discuss his growing plans. With Lord Hestrel imprisoned, Caleb doubles down on using Linda as his key ally, promising her power and influence if she remains loyal.“Your father may have failed,” Caleb tells Linda during a private meeting, his tone sharp yet persuasive, “but you don’t have to. Together, we can rebuild what he lost—and more.”Linda hesitates, her eyes narrowing. “And what do you gain from all this?”Caleb smiles faintly. “The same as you—control. But it only works if I can count on you.”Back at the Montenegro safe house, Dimitri bursts into the sitting room, holding a small transmitter in his hand.“Viktor,” he said, his voice tense, “one of your guards is working for Caleb.”Viktor straightened in his chair. “Who?”Dimitri slammed a file down on the table. “Luka. He’s been feeding Caleb our location and plans.”Celine, sitting quietly in the corner, felt a chill run down her spine. “How long has this been happ
