The gavel struck the wooden platform with a sharp crack that echoed through the club.

“Sold.”

The word seemed to ring in Sofia’s ears long after the sound faded. Ten million dollars. The number repeated in her mind over and over, too large to feel real. She stood frozen beneath the bright stage lights, her heart pounding so hard it felt painful.

The room had gone silent.

Only a moment ago the air had been filled with casual conversation and the clinking of glasses. Now every sound had disappeared, replaced by a heavy tension that seemed to press against the walls of the room.

Sofia slowly turned her head toward the back of the club where the voice had come from.

At first she saw only shadows.

Then a man stood.

He rose from his chair with an unhurried calm that immediately drew attention from everyone in the room. Conversations died completely as he stepped forward into the dim light.

Sofia felt her breath catch.

He was tall, easily taller than most of the men seated around the tables. His dark suit fit him perfectly, the expensive fabric moving smoothly with every step he took across the floor. His shoulders were broad, his posture straight, and there was a quiet confidence in the way he moved that made people instinctively shift aside to give him space.

No one spoke.

The silence followed him like a shadow.

As he walked closer, the lighting from the stage finally reached his face.

Sharp features. Dark hair brushed neatly back. A strong jaw that gave his expression a permanent edge of authority. But it was his eyes that made Sofia’s pulse jump.

Grey.

Cold and steady.

They moved across the stage slowly, taking in the line of girls before settling on her.

For a moment Sofia forgot how to breathe.

Around the room, whispers began spreading quietly.

“Volkov…”

“That’s him…”

“The Pakhan…”

The name passed between the tables like a ripple moving through water.

Sofia didn’t understand all the meaning behind those whispers, but she could hear the tension in the voices. Some of the men looked impressed. Others looked cautious.

A few looked afraid.

The man continued walking toward the stage.

Two other men appeared behind him without a word, both large and heavily built, dressed in dark suits. Their expressions were blank, their eyes constantly scanning the room.

Bodyguards.

Sofia swallowed.

Her stepfather shifted beside the stage, suddenly looking much less confident than he had earlier. The greed that had filled his face during the auction was gone now, replaced by something closer to nervous excitement.

The man reached the edge of the stage and stopped.

He didn’t climb the steps.

Instead he simply stood there, looking up at Sofia.

Even from a few feet away she could feel the weight of his attention. His gaze moved slowly over her face, studying her in a way that felt far too calm for the situation.

He wasn’t smiling.

He wasn’t frowning either.

His expression revealed almost nothing.

The auctioneer cleared his throat awkwardly, breaking the silence.

“Well,” he said with a forced laugh, “that was certainly a decisive bid.”

The man didn’t look at him.

His attention remained entirely on Sofia.

Up close, the intensity of his gaze made her stomach tighten. He looked at her as if he were memorizing every detail. Not like the other men had looked at her earlier.

There had been hunger in their eyes, possesion

This man’s expression was different.

Controlled

The difference frightened her more than anything else.

“Mr. Volkov,” the auctioneer continued cautiously, “your purchase will be prepared immediately.”

Sofia heard the name clearly this time.

Volkov.

The whispers around the room grew louder for a moment before fading again.

The man finally moved.

He reached into his jacket pocket and removed a pair of black leather gloves, sliding them slowly over his hands. The gesture was simple but deliberate, the kind of movement that suggested he was used to people watching him.

Sofia felt the air leave her lungs.

This was the man who had bought her.

Ten million dollars.

Her stepfather suddenly stepped forward beside the stage, forcing a wide smile.

“Mr. Volkov,” he said quickly, “it’s an honor—”

Volkov didn’t even glance at him.

The complete lack of acknowledgment was so dismissive it made the older man fall silent immediately.

Sofia watched the moment carefully.

For the first time since arriving at the club, her stepfather looked small.

Volkov finally spoke.

“Bring her.”

His voice was low and steady, the Russian accent smooth but unmistakably firm.

The assistant beside Sofia immediately touched her arm.

“Come with me.”

Her legs felt weak as she moved toward the steps. Each step down from the stage felt like walking deeper into something she couldn’t escape.

The men seated around the tables watched quietly.

Some leaned forward with interest.

Others simply observed with careful expressions, as though witnessing something important.

Sofia reached the floor.

Volkov was only a few feet away now.

She forced herself to look at him, even though every instinct told her to look down.

Up close he seemed even more intimidating. There was a quiet danger in the way he stood, perfectly still, his attention focused entirely on her.

For a long moment he said nothing.

Then he stepped closer.

The distance between them disappeared in two slow steps.

His eyes met hers.

Sofia felt her throat tighten.

For the first time that night, fear truly settled into her chest.

Because she suddenly understood something important.

Her stepfather had been cruel and selfish

But he had always been predictable.

The man standing in front of her now was something entirely different.

He was calm in a way that suggested absolute control.

The kind of control that came from power.

Real power.

Volkov studied her face one last time before nodding slightly to one of the men behind him.

“Take her.”

The bodyguard stepped forward immediately.

His hand closed gently but firmly around Sofia’s arm.

She didn’t resist not because she didn’t want to.

But because something deep in her instincts told her resistance would mean nothing.

As she was guided toward the exit, Sofia glanced back once, herstepfather still stood beside the stage.

He was smiling.

That smile made something inside her chest break.

Then the doors opened.

Cold night air rushed inside the club.

And Sofia stepped into the world of the man who had just bought her.

Alexei Volkov.

“Get her ready.”Alexei didn’t raise his voice when he said it, but the room responded all the same. Sofia barely had time to process the order before two women stepped forward, as if they had been waiting for that exact moment.“Come,” one of them said gently.Sofia glanced at him, just once. There was no hesitation in him, no pause that suggested she could refuse, and for a second she considered standing her ground anyway, just to see what would happen. She didn’t.The decision wasn’t submission, not really. It was awareness. Whatever this was, it was already moving, and she needed to understand it before she tried to resist it.So she followed. The difference was immediate the moment she stepped out into the hallway. The penthouse no longer felt like a place she had been brought into temporarily. Guards stood at intervals that looked casual until you realized none of them ever shifted without purpose. The door had barely closed before Sofia let out a breath she didn’t realize she was holding and turned away from it, walking deeper into the room as if movement alone could clear her head, but it didn’t, because his words were still there, sitting heavily in her chest, refusing to leave no matter how much she tried to focus on anything elseSo that was it, leverage, nothing more than something to be used until it wasn’t needed anymore, and yet the way he had said it, the way he had looked at her when he left, didn’t feel that simple, and that annoyed her more than it shouldShe stopped near the window, staring out at the city lights below, but this time it didn’t distract her, it only made everything feel further away, like the life she knew had been cut off completely and replaced with something she didn’t choose and couldn’t escapeFineIf this was how things were going to be, then she wasn’t going to make it easy for himShe wasn’t going to stand quietly and act like she belonged t

The elevator ride had felt endless.Sofia stood between of Alexei’s men, her hands clasped tightly in front of her to stop them from shaking. The soft hum of the elevator filled the silence, rising higher and higher, carrying her somewhere she couldn’t see and didn’t understand. The numbers climbed steadily, each floor pulling her further away from the life she knew. She didn’t dare speak. No one else did either. The doors finally slid open with a quiet sound, revealing a space so vast and polished that for a moment, Sofia didn’t move. Beyond them, the entire city of Moscow glittered like a sea of gold.It didn’t feel real.“Move,” one of the men said, not harsh, but firm.Sofia stepped out slowly. Her shoes echoed faintly against the floor as she took in the space. The doors of the club closed behind her with a heavy thud. The noise of the auction and the crowd faded instantly. Silence pressed in from all sides. Sofia’s pulse raced. Her stepfather’s hand had released her. She was now entirely in the hands of Alexei Volkov’s men.She expected rough treatment, a reminder that she was nothing. But the men guiding her moved with quiet efficiency. Their hands touched her shoulders only to steer, never to harm. There was a careful respect in the way they moved. It made the situation feel worse, somehow. She was being treated as someone important, someone owned by a man who needed no words to enforce control.Outside, the night air hit her sharply. The chill made her shiver through the thin dress she still wore. The sleek black car waited at the curb. Its polished surface gleamed under the streetlights, reflecting the city like a dark mirror.
