EVE

“How did a vampire fall down like this? I think they’re more powerful than us?” I heard a hushed voice speak.

“Hussh…! Stop talking nonsense”

“Her power hasn’t been activated yet. Perhaps that’s why she’s so weak”

“Get the minivan ready, let’s take her to the hospital”

Strong arms picked me from the ground and a sharp metallic scent of blood hit my nose. A primal clawing inside of me, but my eyes stayed sealed, my limbs weak.

The minivan roared into life and I was held protectively by some strong pair of hands. Since I didn't know who these people were, I didn't open my eyes. I stayed quiet and the van accelerated.

The pair of hands holding me tried steadying me each time we ran into potholes or gallops, but my body started to rage in fire. A raw, insatiable hunger gnawed at me, and I carve nothing but BLOOD!

When the car didn't come to a stop, I thought maybe I should just survey my surroundings, and where I was being taken to, so I slowly opened my eyes, and I met a pair of blue eyes.

“Hey, what happened to you? Are you awake?” the man asked urgently, but my eyes were dancing around, trying to pick up a clue about where I was.

Calm down Eve, you’ll be fine. I kept saying to myself in my mind but I’m not fine.

I couldn't pinpoint the particular place we're going to, the man just held me with one hand while hurrying his driver to be fast.

Soon, the car stopped and I was brought out of the car.

I don’t know about my environment but all I can see is the movement of veins as it swam in blood on the necks of everyone rushing at me.

“What happened to her?”

“This way Alpha”

When I was finally placed on a bed, doctors circled me but I couldn’t say a word. The doctor loaded an injection that set fear in my heart, making me remember Mike, but I was held down by the man who brought me. “You'll be fine, just…..”

Tears fell from my eyes as I heard this, are they going to kill me again?

Suddenly, a sharp metabolic scent of blood hit my nose, and immediately, I felt thirsty, and my blood became very hot. So hot that it only increased the pain I was feeling and I felt like I was dying again, but at that moment, my eyes landed on the man's neck…

I gulped hard, the voice in my head echoed with joy, and my mind was screaming. “Eve, that's blood!!”

I didn't hesitate, or think twice. The doctor was still busy loading the syringe and I knew this was my opportunity to quench this mad hunger. Unleashing all the power I had left, I pushed his hand off and went for it, dipping my teeth or even fangs into his neck, I drew in as much blood as I wanted to quench my thirst.

He pulled me off. “Calm down girl…”

“Arrrgh!!” I tried going for it again, but this time I couldn't shake him off. He pulled me to himself, and before I could realize it, his lips were on mine, hot, trembling and the movement of his lips made me realize I had fangs now instead of teeth.

I don't know what kind of crazy evolution was happening now, but all the thirst and mad hunger suddenly seems to have left me, while my lips and his are still pressed together.

Still relishing in this, a needle was thrust into my neck, and that was all I remember before falling into the dark abyss again, but I could still hear indistinctly. “Get the operating room ready we…” until I couldn't hear anything anymore.

~

My eyes fluttered open to a strange environment.

I turned my head and realized that I was in a hospital!

Hospital? The word hospital and the white walls and the scent suddenly haunted my mind.

I wanted to stand up and dash away but my body was too heavy to move.

“You’re awake?” a deep masculine voice spoke suddenly beside me, and I saw an angel…. No demigod looked up from the book in his hand.

I tried to speak, but for some reason, I couldn’t, as if my vocal cords refused to work.

“Don’t strain yourself”

“You…” I wanted to say, again, but I don’t think I could form any words as my throat was heavy as if a lump of morsel was closing it.

“Shhh…” He placed a finger on his lips signifying that I should not talk, “You can’t regain your voice just yet. The doctor said your vocal cords have been impaired because of the wounds” he explained with a troubled expression.

And then, my foggy mind remembered everything.

The first thing I did was reach for my belly, trying to sit up despite the dizziness and searing pain.

“Don’t move! Wait, calm down, calm down!” he stopped me and eased me back, but I needed to know desperately if a miracle had occurred or if I was dead already.

I looked at him intensely and then at my stomach, wrapped in thick bandages.

“Yes… I understand what you’re asking, but… I’m sorry… your belly was completely torn. The doctor said you were injected with Wolfsbane and that’s why your belly is in a bad condition and since the injection was placed unprofessionally, it affected your vocal cords, it’s a thank goodness that you’re still alive after all that”

I felt the tears pouring uncontrollably from my eyes. I just remembered the hellish pain, the mad hunger and thirst, and everything I did. I wanted to ask if he was alright, as I could see bandages on his neck, but my voice refused to unlock.

So I accepted my fate in pure agony, my soul shattering.

My lips trembled, my entire body shook, and ragged sobs escaped my torn throat.

Why did this have to happen to me? Why did everything around me have to turn into a nightmare? My baby was innocent, but he was the one who suffered the burns before coming to life.

The man pulled the duvet that I’d yanked off and smiled, “Anyway, I’m Lucian. I picked you while hunting near Rave pack woods, and this is called The Umbra pack. We’ll talk about how you get there when your voice returns, but first, you have to rest”

My heart thumped with fear. Ember pack — Lucian…

If I was right then he’s the infamous Alpha Lucian! The devil’s twin brother?

I looked up to him. Fearfully, as if to ask if what I assumed is right, and he was smiling so beautifully, like a demigod, and his silver hair and blue eyes that I just realized after everything I'd done……

Damnit Eve! Is this the time to ogle?

EVE Everything happened too fast. One moment we were standing in Dr. Chen's clinic, the next Adam was throwing me and Lucia behind an examination table while Circe engaged the vampires. "Stay down!" Adam roared, shifting into his massive black wolf. I crouched over Lucia, my body shielding her as glass and debris rained down. She started crying, her little face scrunched up, and I felt power surge from her tiny body. "No, baby, not now," I whispered frantically. "Please not now." But Lucia's fear triggered another energy burst. Golden light exploded from her, throwing back one of the attacking vampires. "Did that baby just..." one vampire started. "Told you she was special," the lead vampire snarled. "Get her. NOW!" Adam tore into them, his wolf form massive and deadly. But there were three of them, all older vampires with speed and strength to match his. Circe was fighting two at once, her movements a blur. "Eve! Take Lucia and run!" "I'm not leaving you!" "You have to! G

CHAPTER 89 ADAM Three months after Eve came back, we had our first real fight. Not about her being reckless. Not about the trauma. Not about any of the obvious things. About dishes. "You left them in the sink again," I said, trying to keep my voice level. "I asked you to put them in the dishwasher." "I was having a panic attack. Dishes weren't my priority." "You've had three panic attacks today. At some point, dishes need to happen." Eve's eyes flashed. "Are you seriously criticizing me for not doing dishes while I'm struggling with PTSD?" "I'm not criticizing. I'm asking you to follow through on basic household tasks." "Basic household tasks feel impossible when I'm fighting to stay grounded in reality!" "Then tell me that! Don't just leave things half-done and expect me to read your mind!" "I shouldn't have to explain every single time that I'm barely functional! You know I'm struggling!" We were both yelling now. The girls hovering in the doorway, uncertain. I forced

EVETen years after my resurrection, Lucia graduated high school at sixteen. She'd skipped three grades. Could have skipped more but we'd insisted she have some semblance of normal adolescence."This is pointless ceremony," she said, adjusting her cap. "I already know everything they're celebrating. Academic achievement is arbitrary validation of information retention.""It's a milestone. Let us celebrate you.""I'd rather be in the lab finishing my research.""You can finish your research tomorrow. Today you walk across a stage and let your family be proud."She sighed dramatically. "Fine. But I'm not smiling for photos."She smiled for every single photo. Couldn't help herself. Brilliant and accomplished and still somehow our little girl.Sophie was fourteen now. Already accepted into prestigious art programs. Her work sold for thousands. Critics called her a generational talent."It's weird being famous for trauma art," she told me. CHAPTER 91ADAMTwo years after Eve's resurrection, life felt almost normal. Not the old normal. We'd never get that back. Too much had changed. Too much trauma had reshaped us.But a new normal. Better in some ways. More honest. More present. More grateful for what we had.The girls were nine now. Growing fast. Too fast.Lucia had started advanced placement classes. Her teachers struggled to keep up with her intellect. She'd already mastered calculus and was working on theoretical physics for fun."I'm considering a research project on hybrid genetic expression," she announced at dinner. "Specifically how wolf and vampire DNA integrate at the chromosomal level.""That sounds complicated," Eve said."It's fascinating. The recombination patterns suggest deliberate optimization rather than random mutation. I think there's an evolutionary mechanism we haven't identified yet.""You're nine.""Age is irrelevant to intellectual curiosity. Einstein developed his thought experiments as a teen
