Lyra’s legs pounded against the cold ground as she sprinted up the misty hill, breath hitching from the icy morning air. She didn’t need to look back, he would follow her. She knew he would. He always did.

Let him chase her. Let him feel the pull too.

The air shifted, thinning as the trees broke open to reveal the ridge at the top of the slope. Her lungs burned. Her legs ached. But she felt alive. Even with everything crashing around her, she could still run—still move, still feel the wind against her face. That was enough. For now.

She laughed, even though the ache in her side from all that running was becoming unbearably painful. The trees were so green. So huge. She had never been allowed this far back into the forest in her former pack. It was exhilarating.

With a deep, sigh, Lyra began slowing down at the top of the small hill she had climbed, turning slightly, expecting to catch a glimpse of Kai’s hulking figure emerging through the trees.

Instead, she saw something else.

  • By The Light Of The Luna    The Role She Had To Play

Lyra wasn’t frightened. Not of the madness that had become her life, or of the fact that she would be walking on her own two feet into a den of traitors and power-hungry liars. No, what unsettled her was something much worse. The role Kai had asked her to play.Selena and Willow had joined them on this cursed journey to the Blood Court. Lyra hadn’t figured out how to handle the “little sister” thing yet. She still couldn’t manage more than the occasional shy hi or awkward hey. But after this ordeal—after they dealt with this—she promised herself she’d try. Willow deserved that, at least. But right now? Right now, all she could think about was the plan.It was bold. Unapologetic. If Dorian was already spreading lies that Kai had stolen her—claimed her—then Kai would let them believe it. No denials. No explanations. He’d ride that storm all the way in and let the message sink in:Alpha Kai can take whoever and whatever he wants. Without force. It was simple… but powerful.Still, Kai wal

  • By The Light Of The Luna    A common Enemy

Lyra stood at the large, open, door less balcony, wrapped in one of the thick, fur-lined shawls Kai had tossed towards her earlier. The mountain air was crisp with approaching dusk, and the sky above bled golden hues into navy blue. It had been hours since the messenger vanished, swallowed by the wind, and still Kai hadn’t spoken a word about what he planned to do.Instead, immediately Lyra and Kai winnowed into the open manor, Kai took one long look at her before disappearing. Winnowing right out of sight and leaving her all alone without a single goodbye.Typical.But when she heard the distinctive crack of winnowing magic ripple through the threshold downstairs, and felt the distinct weight of power fill the once empty house, she knew it was him—returning with guests. She barely had time to slip into the warmer part of the house before she heard it... Her name. Coming from a females voice.“Lyra?”It was her mother’s voice—Selena. Calm, familiar, and layered with something Lyra had

  • By The Light Of The Luna    A strange support system

Immediately they got back to the townhouse in the mountains, Kai put her down back on her feet, turned her around to face him and just stared at her. "What? I wasn't planning on doing that or hurting anybody." She immediately came to her own defense. "Who said anything?""You were looking at least like some deranged person. Kai just stared at her. "I did not do anything, anyway. Stop acting like I murdered someone. Tell me you don't feel the rage I feel right now. Tell me you're so emotionally mature that you don't feel the pain I feel. Of the life I was robbed. He killed your father too, didn't he?" Lyra stalked towards him, she stood face to face with home even though he was way taller. Commanding his attention and keeping it. "I saw your face when she was talking. When she spoke about the murders. The pain was there, very clear, very raw. You wanted to destroy something too. You wanted to make someone pay too. So stop acting like I'm some deranged, delinquent teenager not lis

  • By The Light Of The Luna    "They're coming "

Blood rushed into Lyra's head with so much force, she needed to sit down. She stumbled, struggling to find her seat, until firm, masculine hands directed her to it and helped her sit. What was this, this feeling of betrayal that was consuming her? "Step sister? You have a daughter?" Lyra asked, stunned. "I have two daughters, Lyra. You included" Selena replied, frustration evident in her face. Things were spiraling faster than she had imagined. The whole situation made her look older than before, like it was sapping the joy and vibrance from her skin. Lyra looked at the beautiful young girl again, she looked to be at least seventeen years old. Willow looked nothing like Lyra, except for the sharp, shiny eyes they had both obviously inherited from their mother. Even her hair was black. Selena dropped down to the chair below her, utterly defeated and tired. "I have a sister... A real sister" Anger and joy wared in Lyra's mind at the thought of it all being possible. She had family.
