Chapter 5
The moment Dr June disappeared, Natasha closed the door from inside then headed to the bathroom. She filled the bath tab with warm water and allowed her body to get soaked. She closed her eyes as bitter tears continued flowing down her cheeks.
She had tried convincing herself that she was not going to cry anymore for him but she could not stop her self.It was true that loving someone could be so sweet and on the other hand could be so painful. The moment she left Kenny's house, she did not even know where she was going. Her step mother had always treated her very harshly and she did not think about going to the Johnson family. Her father, Johnson Peter had died in a car accident that involved his and Sophia's car, Kenny's girlfriend and Sophia went into a two years coma and only woke up that day. Kenny had told her that he was driving while drunk but Natasha knew that her father would never do such a thing. She was told that he died on a car accident. Her mother , Sasha had committed suicide when she realized that her husband had another woman who had a child with her husband. Thinking about her dad,the best man she knew, Natasha felt a large lump in her throat. She didn't know what she had done to deserve it all that was happening in her in life. Her mother committed suicide, her dad died in an accident and the only person she thought would give he happiness disappointed her.She even questioned her existence. She thought that she was a bad lack to the society. If not for Dr June, maybe she would have slept on the streets that night.Dr June was the one who had been attending to her everytime she visited the hospital. He was the one who told her that her blood was being given to Kenny's girlfriend and that she did not have any kind of illness. If not for him, she would never have realized that Kenny had been using her as a blood bank for two years. She had thought that Kenny loved her but she now realized that she had been lying to herself from the very beginning. After staying in the bathroom for almost an hour, she wiped her body dry and picked some pyjamas from her bag before putting them on.She was not in the mood to eat anything so she lay on the bed to sleep. After a few minutes, she was already asleep. On the other side, Kenny rushed to the hospital and inside the ward she saw Sophia lying on bed with her eyes open. His mother was holding her hand as she talked to her. "Kenny, you are here, where did you go?" She asked. "I was going to meet a friend when you called me," he said as he pulled a chair to sit at the side of the bed. "Kenny, you should always keep her company, don't leave her alone, she has just woken up from the coma and who knows if something might happen to her again," she said. "It's okey mum," Kenny responded."When is she going to be discharged?" Kenny asked. "The doctors said that she should stay till tomorrow so that they can observe her closely," Kenny's mother explained. Mother Kenny stood up and went outside to pick up her phone which was vibrating. She looked every corner to make sure that there was no one to eavesdrop her conversation. "Are they divorced? Where is she?" Mother Kenny asked. "Yes madam, he signed the divorce papers and she left," she heard the voice from the other end of the phone. "Good work," she responded before ending the call. Inside the hospital ward,Kenny did not utter even a single ward to Sophia. He could roughly guess that she had faked the fainting so that he could not chase after Natasha.Kenny could not stop thinking about her but he was sure that she was okey since June had already taken care of her. Mother Kenny came in later and sat beside the bed as if she had done nothing.Kenny looked at his mother and he could guess that she was behaving suspiciously but he could not bring himself to question her.He did not want to make a single mistake that would cost Natasha's life. "Sophia, how are you feeling now?" Mother Kenny asked. "Am okey, don't worry too much mum," she responded in a low voice. "Okey daughter, you don't have to strain yourself, with Kenny here, am sure that you will get better quickly," mother Kenny said. Inside her heart Sophia did not want to think that Kenny did not love her.She convinced herself that she was the one that Kenny loved and he will marry her. With his mother around, Sophia was sure that Kenny would never disrespect his mother so if she asks him to marry her then he would eventually marry her. It was her biggest dream to become Kenny's wife and she did not want any woman to have him. "Kenny,I have to leave and I hope you will take good care of her," mother Kenny spoke. "No mum, you can't leave her alone, you have to stay so that you can help her do things that I am not able to help her do," he quickly said. Kenny did not want to be left alone with Sophia. Everytime he looked at her, he felt nothing other than hatred and disgust. Everytime she tried touching his body, he felt as if he could throw away her filthy hands every time he washed the place she had touched thoroughly, but he was not able to do that. Kenny did not want them to guess his intentions, since if they found out about his plan, then he would not be able to save Natasha. He needed to make them believe that he was in love with Sophia and was planning to marry her. Suddenly, his phone vibrated and he stood up to go and make the call. "We need to talk at our usual place," he heard the voice from the other end of the call. Kenny went inside the hospital again. He kissed his mum on the forehead, then did the same to Sophia. "Mum, I am going home to pick up a few clothes for Sophia and you and also my laptop, since there is something I need to work on. I'll be back in a few minutes," he said as he forced a smile. He asked the hospital staff to bring another small bed for his mother so that she could rest next to Sophia. "Sophia, mom, you two should rest and I will be back," he said. Sophia felt happy too when she heard his caring words. Mother Kenny nodded her head," It's okay son, drive safely." Kenny quickly drove out of the hospital.Kenny’s mother walked in and closed the door behind her. “Soohia, that’s not how a daughter-in-law of the Dawson family should behave,” she said gently but firmly. “You shouldn’t have walked out of the party like that. People will talk about us negatively. Do you know you made things worse?”Sophia turned to her, her voice shaking. “What was I supposed to do? Stay there and smile like nothing happened while my husband embarrassed me in front of everyone? What did I do to deserve that?”Kenny’s mother moved closer and touched her shoulder lightly. “Calm down, Sophia. We will fix everything. You just need to be strong. You’re carrying his child, remember?”Sophia sat down, wiping her tears. She was shaking. “He doesn’t care about that.”Kenny’s mother sat beside her. “But what did he mean when he said you two were not legally married?”Before Sophia could say anything, the front door opened again. Kenny walked in slowly, his face calm but serious. He looked at the two women, then sai
The following morning, Kenny woke up early and left the house without saying much to anyone. He drove straight to his grandfather’s house. As soon as he entered the gate, a smile formed on his face. That place always gave him peace the warmth, and family. The old man was seated outside on his usual rattan chair under the big tree in the compound, sipping his tea while enjoying the slight breeze. The moment he saw Kenny walking out of his car, he stood up slowly with a big smile on his face.“There you are, I was just about to call you!” the old man said.Kenny walked up to him and hugged him tightly. “I missed you, grandpa,” he said.“I missed you, too, boy,” the old man said, patting his back. “The dark marks are fading away really quickly, and you have added some weight,” he joked, making Kenny laugh. They both sat down under the tree.“So, how are things going? How is everything at home?” the old man said, settling into his chair, Kenny sighed. “It’s okay, grandpa, maybe complicat
Kenny still remained silent. Kenny’s mother cleared her throat and sat up straight. No one could tell that she was such a big pretender from the expression on her face.“Kenny, I just want to say how happy I am that you’re back,” she began." I have been looking for you, but you were nowhere to be seen." “Those eight months were the hardest time of my life. When I heard about the accident, I thought I had lost you forever.”Her voice broke a little, and she reached for a handkerchief from her bag. She wiped her eyes slowly, like someone truly emotional. Kenny sat there watching her, his face calm. Deep inside, he knew she was pretending. She was very excited when she heard he was dead, and she hoped he would come back again. Kenny knew it. She kept talking.“But even when you were missing, I still had hope because your child is growing inside Sophia. I told myself that at least I would still have a part of Kenny with me. That’s what gave me the strength to keep going.”Sophia shif
After getting home, Kenny opened the front door of his house and walked in slowly. The living room lights were still on, and Sophia was there on the couch, seated upright, her legs crossed, staring at the TV. She looked like the owner of the house, and nothing bothered her at all. Kenny didn’t say a word or look in her direction. He removed his shoes near the door and walked past her. Sophia turned her head slightly to look at him, but she didn’t speak. She just watched him walk up the stairs and disappear. Kenny entered his room, closed the door, and leaned against it for a second. He let out a long, tired breath, then walked to the wardrobe, took off his formal clothes, and changed into a plain white t-shirt and a pair of soft grey sweatpants. He sat on the couch beside the bed, elbows on his knees, and his hands rubbing his face slowly. Natafa's sweet face was still fresh in his mind. He imagined how sweet it would be if she were the one waiting for him in the living room ins
Still, she couldn’t forget that moment when they were so close. The way he told her to be careful wasn’t fake. She could see it in his eyes. He cared about her. But what did that mean now?She lay back on the bed and covered her eyes with her arm. “I can’t let this happen again,” she whispered to herself, “I just can’t. He betrayed me with another woman."Meanwhile, Kenny sat still in the car for a while, staring at the hotel door where Natasha had just walked in. His hand was still on the steering wheel, but his mind was not with him. He could still feel the softness of her lips. He hadn't planned to kiss her, but he couldn’t help it. The moment felt right, and his heart had taken over.He leaned back in his seat and sighed deeply. "What did I just do?” he whispered to himself. He rubbed his hand over his face, trying to calm his thoughts. He knew Natasha was angry, and she had every right to be. He had hurt her before, and even though he had his reasons, he could never erase the p
Kenny went silent, he didn’t ask any more questions after she said those painful words. He kept his eyes on the road, his hands firm on the steering wheel. Deep inside his heart, he felt a mix of emotions. He wanted to ask more, to know what was going on in her life, who Jasper really was, and if she still thought of him, but he held himself back, he didn’t want to push her too far. In the front passenger seat, Natasha shifted in her seat slightly. Her fingers played with the edge of the blanket he had given her. She was quiet, but her mind was full of guilt. She thought that maybe she had been too harsh with her words. After all, he had saved her. He didn’t have to, but he did it, and instead of her thanking him, she said mean words to him. She sighed, still wondering if he was angry now or just hurt. She turned her head slowly and threw a side glance at him, just to see how he was reacting. But the moment her eyes landed on him, she froze. He was already looking at her.Their e
