Zane’s POV

“I was wondering where you slipped off to.”

The words left my mouth sharper than planned, but Mabel’s head snapped up, and for a second all the noise in the gym blurred out.

The training center was crowded, warriors on machines, Omegas hustling around to wipe sweat from benches, even the lounge upstairs buzzing. But when I walked in, the noise cut down. Most bowed. Not all.

My eyes tracked to the far corner, and there she was. Mabel. Dark blue shorts, matching sports bra. Too much skin. My jaw locked. Didn’t she notice the men staring? I wanted to throw a jacket over her shoulders, something thick enough to hide her curves from every hungry look.

Of course Adrian and Sullivan were planted next to her, grinning like they owned the place. Ronan hovered with his tablet, trying to look useful.

I crossed the floor. The air tightened. Adrian’s smirk, Sullivan’s nod, Ronan’

Mabel’s POV"Miss Mabel, can I talk to you for a second?" Sullivan’s voice came from the hall.I froze mid-step. Tyler and Vivian were close enough to hear but kept their eyes forward, acting like the wallpaper."Sure," I said, turning toward Sullivan. "Do you want to talk here, or… somewhere private?"I prayed he’d say here. Zane had a habit of storming in whenever he found me talking to another Alpha. Or anyone, really. He always said it was about my safety, but I knew better."Here is fine," Sullivan said with a small smile. "I just wanted to remind you of my offer. Anytime you need something, call me. And I hope you’ll visit the Midnight Guardians pack soon."Warmth spread in my chest. Adrian and Navy had just invited me to their pack, and now Sullivan too. Maybe Alphas weren’t all arrogant like the ones I’d seen back in Silverwood. Adrian was kind. Sullivan thoughtful. And Zane

Mabel’s POV“You really think Zane will just let this slide?”Alpha Gregory’s voice cut through the silence, his tone both sharp and careful.I kept my smile steady, though my chest felt tight. “I don’t mind going earlier, Daddy, but what’s the point? A few days won’t change anything. If we push him, he might see it as pressure, and that’s the last thing we want. Better to let him believe he has the upper hand.”His eyes narrowed, weighing my words.I pressed on. “If you want to remind him of last night’s scandal, that’s fair. Tell him to keep it quiet so he doesn’t humiliate me again. That will work better than barging in.”A pause stretched. Then he nodded. Relief washed through me, though I kept my face composed.I wanted Paris. I wanted to breathe without everyone’s schemes in my ear. But that door had shut long ago. My

(Lydia’s POV)“Busy?” Wendy’s voice slid in before I even looked up.I shut my book and lifted my head. She was already halfway through the door, pretending to wait for an answer.“For you? Never.” I gave her the kind of smile I kept ready for every fake moment in this packhouse. “What’s up?”Wendy crossed the room with that little sway she always thought looked casual. She handed me her phone like it was a gift. “Look at this.”I glanced at the screen. A photo. Zane, in a crowd, his arm wrapped tight around a woman. My chest pinched before my brain caught up.“What am I supposed to be seeing?” I asked flatly.“You don’t recognize him?”I rolled my eyes. “Of course I do. That’s Zane.” My thumb slid, but she yanked the phone away before I could see more.“There are other shots. None show

Mabel’s POV"I thought the point was to teach me how to defend myself, not hug me like a pillow," I said, my voice muffled against Zane’s chest.Ronan’s face lit up like I had said exactly what he wanted to hear. He pointed a finger at Zane. "Exactly. This was supposed to be a competition. You can’t win by standing there holding her."Zane lifted his head and gave him a slow look, calm but sharp enough to quiet the whole room. "You showed her a kick. I showed her a strike to the throat. Both are valid defenses. The difference is that mine actually works if she’s in danger."Adrian and Sullivan both nodded as if Zane had just explained something profound.Ronan hesitated. His shoulders stiffened like he wanted to argue but thought better of it. "So, how do we know whose lesson stuck?""Mabel decides," Zane said, eyes locked on me. Then he flicked his gaze to the wall clock. "And I’ve still

Mabel’s POV“I’m not sure I can do this.”Ronan grinned like he’d been waiting for me to say that. “Then let me show you.”I didn’t back away. I couldn’t. Zane had walked off to change, and Ronan was standing steady in front of me, calm as ever. Something about his tone, so patient, kept me rooted. He tapped the side of my knee with his foot. “Here. Kick here. Don’t pull back right away. Hook your foot behind the knee, then drag. He’ll lose balance. From there, you choose—keep fighting, or run.”I nodded. My throat was tight. The move made sense in theory. If I could unsteady someone, I could slip away. But to get that close, to actually hit…Images rushed back, too sharp. The park. More than one attacker. I could barely picture myself against one, let alone a group. My stomach clenched. Ronan waited, open stance, not rushing me
