Ethan's POV

I frown slightly at his text. Though internally I was happy for the money. But his intentions seems fishy. So I asked him, "Why this sudden heart of change?"

"I shared it with my boss and he is impressed with it", he replies and I smile thinking it's a token of appreciation. But then he drops another text stating the actual reason.

"He wants to hire you as an freelancer", he reveals the cause. My breath hitched and heart skipped a beat. "Will you be able to work for us?", he asks.

  • Contracted to the man who broke me    Chapter 173: Two-day draining out

Author's POVThe bedroom held them both in silence.Sunlight slid low through the curtains, throwing pale gold across the sheets. Ethan's head rested against Adrian's chest, rising and falling with each breath. Neither of them spoke. There was nothing to say. The exhaustion from the night before had settled deep into their bones, and for once, neither fought it.Adrian's arm tightened around him in his sleep. A small, unconscious gesture. Like even unconscious, he refused to let go.*This is what peace feels like,* Ethan thought, right before sleep pulled him under too. *I forgot.*They woke hours later, tangled and warm, the light outside shifting toward evening. The private beach stretched empty and golden when they finally stepped onto the sand, shoes discarded somewhere behind them. The waves came in soft and unhurried. For a while they just stood there, watching the water. Then Adrian dropped to his knees and started digging."What are you doing," Ethan asked, laughing despite hi

  • Contracted to the man who broke me    Chapter 172: Pool Date

Ethan's POVI woke to an empty bed. He wasn't on his side, and I frowned, still sore beneath the sheets, the ache settling deep as I lay wrapped in them. Groaning, I pushed myself up, and my eyes caught my reflection in the mirror. My body was painted with his marks, claimed in reddish patches across my skin. Heat rose in my cheeks as the memory of last night came rushing back, warm and giddy, curling low in my stomach."Jeez, Ethan. Stop blushing," I muttered to myself, and fled to the washroom. When I stepped out, a note was stuck to the mirror.*Come to the terrace,* it read.My cheeks warmed faintly. My heart thudded behind my ribs, dramatic and unreasonable, as I glanced at my reflection one last time before making my way upstairs, breath uneven, pulse caught in some soft, nervous rhythm. The moment I reached the terrace, my breath caught entirely. An infinity pool stretched before me, glinting under the morning light. Breathtaking."Wow," I breathed, stepping closer.A breakfast

  • Contracted to the man who broke me    Chapter 171: Photographs

Author's POV The news of Adrian's engagement reached Italy before the sun rose there. An invitation, gold foiled and formal, had been sent across the ocean to Samuel, son of Evzen, Adrian's grandfather. Since Peter's death, the space between father and son had never quite closed. Evzen had tried, in his own quiet ways, but Samuel carried grief like a debt he refused to let anyone else pay down for him. When the invitation reached his desk, something in his chest curdled instantly. He did not go.Instead he called his father two days before the engagement, voice smooth with regret he did not feel.-------------(Two days ago)"Papa," he said, the word rolling easily off his tongue, practiced, warm. "I am so sorry. This week has been a disaster. A deal fell apart, then came back together, and now there are lawyers everywhere wanting signatures I cannot come from a plane.""You are not coming," Evzen said. Not a question."I wish I could. God knows I wish I could." Samuel let a small, c

  • Contracted to the man who broke me    Chapter 170: Aromatic Candles, Music and Dim Light

Ethan's POVAdrian’s arms slid under my knees and back before I could fully step out of the shower. The world tilted; my head settled against the damp curve of his shoulder. I was still pliant, still warm from the water and everything that had happened against the tile. He carried me through the bedroom without hurry, the soft pad of his bare feet the only sound until he lowered me onto the mattress. The bed was wide and already turned down. On the low side table sat a small woven basket—condoms, a bottle of something clear, a remote. Around it, several thick candles waited in glass holders. The far wall was lined with vertical wooden panels of staggered heights, a large television mounted above them. Speakers were built into the false ceiling and the sides of the wall, almost invisible.Adrian set me down carefully, then moved around the room. He lit the candles one by one; the scent of something warm and resinous—sandalwood, maybe, or amber—rose into the air. He picked up the remote

  • Contracted to the man who broke me    Chapter 169: Please take me down (18+)

Ethan's POVThe car rolled forward in silence, the kind that felt heavy with unspoken questions. I sat beside Adrian, watching the coastal road unspool beyond the tinted windows. Grandpa had only said the place was “arranged.” No address. No explanation. Just a driver and the quiet certainty that whatever waited at the end of this drive had already been decided without us.Salt air slipped in through a crack in the window. The light softened into late-afternoon gold. When the private road curved and the gates appeared—black iron against a stretch of pale stucco—I understood. Santa Barbara. A small house perched above the water, its windows open to the Pacific like it had been waiting for us.I stared. Adrian’s hand found mine on the seat between us, fingers warm and steady.“Wow,” he said, voice low, almost disbelieving. “He actually bought it. While I just planned.”A short, helpless laugh left me. “Great.”The driver handed over a single key. It fit the outer gate with a soft click.

  • Contracted to the man who broke me    Chapter 168: Speech, Toast and Dinner

Ethan's POV My chair scraped back before I fully decided to stand, my legs a little unsteady beneath me. Every face at the table was turned toward me, waiting, warm, expectant. I found Adrian's eyes first, anchoring myself there the way I'd learned to all night. "I'm not good at speeches," I started, my voice thinner than I wanted it to be. A few soft laughs rippled through the table, kind ones. "But I'll try." I turned the glass slowly in my hand, gathering whatever nerve I had left. "I never thought I'd be someone's choice. Not really. Not like this." My throat tightened around the words. "And then Adrian happened, and somehow I became exactly that. Someone's choice. His choice." I glanced at him, and his eyes hadn't moved from mine once. "I don't have big words for what tonight means. I just know that whatever this is between us, I don't want to spend a single day without it. Thank you all for being here. And Adrian," my voice cracked slightly, "thank you for choosing me too."

Ethan’s POVHow long was he watching us? And why? Before I could excuse or walk to him, Adrians walked to me, his eyes throwing daggers and my breath hitched. "Can I just borrow my partner from you?", he asks, holding me from my arms. His hold tight made me witter in pain but forcing a smile I walk

  • Contracted to the man who broke me    Chapter 3: The First Rule

Ethan’s POVIt was 5:00 pm and I was resting in my room thinking Adrian is off to work, when I found him walking in my room making me startled. "Aren't you supposed to come at 7:00 pm?", I blurted my thoughts loudly."Is it?", he cocks his brows at me. "I thought I was a free king, and I can chang

Ethan’s POVThe car stopped in front of the big black gates, standing tall, towering up with all its authority and glory. The name beside it engraved on the marbles in gold read “Blackwood Mansion”. I gulp as the guard signals the car to pass inside and soon an extraordinarily big garden, with a fo

  • Contracted to the man who broke me    Chapter 1: The Contract Trap

Ethan’s POV"Sign this paper, and you'll get unlimited money access!", he smirks as I look at him in despair. His voice is smooth, but at the same time, deadly. He sits across from me as if he owns everything, including my fate. His face is calm, body relaxed while the darkened orbs tell a differe
