Ivana’s POV

The air in Montalto Gallery’s staff room was buzzing with excitement as everyone went about fixing themselves in place.

The chairs had been neatly arranged in rows, and a projector hummed softly at the front of the room.

When I arrived, there was an empty seat in the middle and immediately, I made my way there only to be sandwiched between two colleagues almost immediately.

“Hey," I acknowledged their greetings with a small smile before placing my hands on my thigh and looking straight ahead.

Today was the quarterly staff meeting everyone has been talking about since last weekend. Since it was going to be my first one, I was excited.

Looking around, I tried to spot Benny but he was nowhere to be found. These days, he has been going on and off.

Before heading home last night, I had dropped by his place but there was no sign of life. I called his phone several times but it was still the same.

Just when I was about to dial his phone again, he walked in, positioning himsel

Ivana’s POVIt was the kids' sixth year birthday and just like those last five, I was definitely going to make it a memorable one for them. With lady luck on my side, their birthday had fallen on the weekend and since about three am, I had been up, trying to put things in order with mom. The house was looking like a balloon factory but I was careful enough not to let the kids touch them. Music seeped from the speaker, mixing with the smell of freshly baked pastries, confetti explosions, and the occasional squeal of excited children running around.I had invited the kids' friends at school and they didn't fail to turn up. In an hour, the party was going to begin in a full swing so I was putting a finishing touch to the decorations. At the moment, I stood near the doorway, my hair pulled into a messy bun, frosting on my fingers and a half deflated balloon tucked under my arm. I was trying to fix a centerpiece when mom stormed past me with a pair of party hats.“I told you to go with

Ruslan’s POVXavier outsmarting me was unexpected and so I had been nursing my wounds silently, waiting patiently for the day he was going to slide into my radar. This time, I wasn't going to let him slip away, I was going to make sure I pulled him back in. Groping my way towards my room, I was on my phone talking to Lara whom I haven't seen in days despite sharing the same roof with her.She was the only family I had around. Igor had left for the vacation house a few months ago with no hopes of returning to the clan. Now in front of my room, I slid my phone into my pocket and then pushed my door in. The dim golden glow of the bedside lamp casted long shadows across the polished floors. The scent of vanilla and wine drifted through the air, but it did nothing to calm my nerves. She was here—Atina. Sitting on the edge of my bed and draped in silk lingerie that clung to her curves like a second skin, she had her head tilted to the side. Her dark hair tumbled past her shoulders in c

Ivana’s POVRefusing Benny’s offer wasn't something I intend to do. I don't mind if Rita flipped out or not, that was her business to handle and not mine. After work, I had followed Benny home and right now, I was behind his paintings which were hanging loosely on the wall. The photographs and paintings were neatly arranged in mismatched frames. Some were black and white, others were vibrant with colors. A few looked like they were captured in Russia, snow covered streets, golden domes, and people doned in thick coats but though my gaze lingered, my thoughts were far away.Benny’s voice floated from the adjacent room. He wasn’t speaking English, and even though the walls muffled the sound, I recognized the tone—Russian. My chest tightened as I strained my ears to catch more. There was something oddly familiar about the way he spoke, yet at the same time, it was different. He didn’t have the thick Russian accent that others I had met like Fabrizio had. His voice sounded American, ev

Ruslan's POV Save for the rhythmic ticking of the clock mounted on the wall, the room was deadly quiet. The air inside my office was dense with tension, thick enough to be sliced with a knife. At the moment, I was leaning against my leather chair, clenching my phone loosely in one hand as I stared at the screen. Xavier’s name blinked for the fourth time in under ten minutes. He was persistent, but I wasn’t one to give in to impatience especially not when I had the upper hand.Across the room, Nico sat casually on the couch, flipping through a dossier with pictures scattered beside him. He wasn’t paying attention to the calls but when the fifth one came in and I still hadn’t picked up, he shifted his gaze to me.“Aren’t you going to answer him?” He asked, “He’s either scared, desperate, or maybe both.”I exhaled slowly, my eyes never leaving the phone. I wanted him to feel tension so that next time, he wouldn't dare to ignore me.“Let him sweat.”When the sixth call came in, I fin

Ivana’s POVWhile I played with my brush, Benny and Rita chatted casually, their laughter breaking through the silence in split seconds. Having had fun to his fill, Benny returned to my side and with his hands pushed inside his pockets, he said, “The offer still stands." Leaning more closely now, he added, “I'm not trying to seduce you. I respect your husband so much, not only that I'm not going to hurt you or him." He smacked his lips.“Ciao." He waved as he made his way towards the door while I kept staring at him, my cheeks flushed in embarrassment. Unable to keep still anymore, I quickly took off my apron and then rushed to the bathroom to splash cold water over my face. The steady hum of the overhead light and the sound of water running into the porcelain sink were the only noises in the bathroom.“Perfect." I muttered, staring at my reflection in the mirror. After one last splash, I reached out for the paper towel to wipe my face and hand. It was at this moment that the door

Ivana’s POVThe studio was quiet, giving me the kind of stillness that allowed my mind to slip into the world of creativity without distractions. Lunch time was always like this and so I always liked to maximize it each time I was alone. My hands moved with certainty over the canvas, my brush dipping into thick oils as I blended the edges of a sunset against the silhouette of a fading cityscape. The piece had taken days to shape and hours to perfect, and now, finally, it was beginning to come to life. Proud of my hard work, I was about to start admiring my piece when I felt his presence.Benny.I didn’t have to look to know. He had a particular kind of silence which was always intentional and curious that gave him away every time. I rolled my eyes before he even said a word.“Still ignoring the world, I see,” Benny said, folding his arms across his chest as he stepped inside. At that moment, I twisted slightly, my hand moving swiftly to adjust the canvas and to block his view.Be

Reader’s POVAfter hanging up, Fabrizio kept staring at himself in the mirror, his head creating different scenarios in a short burst.“Whatever." He muttered, pushing his hands into his pockets as he made his way back to join Trenton on the table. The calm look on his face had now switched into something else as he clenched his jaw like he had just finished an argument with someone. Now seated across from Trenton, legs crossed he was tapping his fingers against his hands absentmindedly while Trenton studied him. “What is it?” Trenton asked, breaking the silence. His voice was low because of the children who were playing quietly near the window. At that instant, Fabrizio sank deeper into his chair, his hand going into his hair as he let out a low wince.“The call was from Moscow.” He said in a grave voice. Raising his brow, Trenton asked, “Bad news?”Fabrizio shifted his glance away and then back to him with an unreadable expression. “My father has been searching for me like I'm s

  • Craving Him, My Step-Brother    Chapter 97

Ruslan’s POVThe faint hum of electricity buzzed around me and for some reason, I found an odd comfort in the sterile, high tech wire room.Arching my back slightly, I exhaled slowly, watching the screens blink, flicker, and settle into patterns of digital activity that meant little to anyone outside Walter’s world. The air was cool, clinical like it was a hospital. It was probably from the scent of static and faint cologne from Walter. Walter was pacing about, his phone pressed to his ear and his brows pulled together in his signature stubborn line especially when he wasn't getting what he wanted like now. He had been trying to reach Xavier for almost an hour now but he wasn't picking up. “He’s still not picking up,” he grunted like a dying old man as he turned to face me. “He knows the reason we are calling him so he is ignoring us on purpose.” I let out a chuckle which was a dark sound laced with amusement and irritation. “Of course he is ignoring us. He knows he has been cau
