AUTHOR'S POV
Katerina’s breath caught in her throat when she heard Luca's words. To be honest, she wasn't expecting him to trust her that easily, not even in her wildest dream. Why the change of heart? Why did he believe her without asking questions like he always did? Katerina couldn't help it but wonder, many questions buzzing in her mind.“You…believe me?” She asked hesitantly, not sure if she had heard it right or if her ear was playing a damn game on her.You can't blame Katerina for acting that way because…it was hard for Lucas to believe her in the past, since Monalisa walked in her once peaceful life where they were no doubts. Kate wasn't expecting the conversation to be this smooth either. She was prepared to face the difficulty that was ahead of her. She was ready to accept the fact that Lucas wouldn't believe…The smile on Luca's face broadened when he saw her reaction. He knew damn well that she would act that way when he heard his words.“Yes IKATERINA My mind pulled back to the present when the car came to a stop. I looked around and that's when I noticed we had already arrived at Evan's office. Kimani got out of the car, walked to the passenger seat and opened the door for me.I gave him a polite smile, thanking him for being gentle. We were accompanied with two more bodyguards to tighten the security. Even though the enemies were behind the bars, it didn't mean we had to loosen the security.“You can wait for me here. I’ll be fine.” I informed Kimani and he nodded in understanding. Heaving a deep sigh, I proceeded to Lawyer Evan’s office. My heart pounded wildly against my ribcage with each step that I took, feeling nervous. Evan called me early in the morning, telling me that he had some important documents that he needed to hand me._Standing before the brown mahogany door, I released a deep breath then knocked. Evan’s voice came from the other side, asking me to enter. I pushed open the heavy doors and walked insid
LUCASI stared out of the window, not looking at anything in particular because there was nothing to admire anyway. The sky was dark with no hint of brightness, almost gloomy. I took a sip of the amber liquid in my glass, savoring the taste as it burned its way down my gut. It wasn't helping at all. However, it was a great companion late at night. The door to the study clicked open and I didn't need to turn my head to know who had walked in. There were only the two of us living under this roof, the place was too quiet.Andrew joined, giving me that look that made me doubt myself. It's not that often that I drink this late at night. I only did it on rare occasions when I had a lot going on, hoping it would give me some idea to go about everything. At least that is what I hoped.“Just a glass,” I defended, shrugging as though it was nothing to worry about. However, deep down I knew I was lying because it was my third glass and the bottle was halfway finished.I think I was holding up
KATERINA “Asher!” I called in a warning, my voice a little bit sharp and cracky, not the way that I was expecting it to come out though. To be honest, I was expecting the triplets to ask any questions. However, I wasn't expecting one of them to ask such a personal question.Asher frowned innocently, not sure of what he had done wrong. Of course the question that he had asked was wrong. However, I couldn't blame him for asking because I knew it was in the kid's nature to ask random questions.“It's late, kids. The three of you need to go to bed because tomorrow you have school.” I said, brushing off the question that Asher has asked earlier.I said goodnight to the triplets and they bid me goodnight too. It was silent for a while, the air surrounding us so thick as the unanswered question which Asher asked hung in the air. Sucking in the hot air, I turned to Lucas.“Forget about Asher's question earlier. You know how curious kids can get sometimes.” A dismissive chuckle escaped my lip
KATERINA It was silent for a while, the kind of silence that made me feel uncomfortable.“Please have a seat.” I gestured for him to sit on the couch where nanny was sitting earlier.“Tea? It's nanny's herbal recipe.” I inquired. Even though he was trying hard, I could tell that he was shivering from the cold.“How am I supposed to say no to nanny's delicious tea?” He joked and we both laughed lightly. I knew he wouldn't say no to it. We both used to love the tea. I reached for the extra mug on the tray, pouring him the hot steaming tea.“How…are your wounds?” I asked to break the weird silence. He placed the mug back on the table and straightened up, turning his full attention on me.“Getting better. It's not painful like how it used to be.” He explained to me briefly and I nodded to him. When we came back to Aurelian city, Lucas transferred from our family doctor to his doctor. He brought the medical reports with him, making it easier for his doctor to follow up on his treatment.“
KATERINA My lips curved into a smile when the familiar smell of herbal tea hit my nostrils, inhaling deeply. The smell made my nerves relaxed and brought me some comfort. Those were some of the good memories that I cherished, reminding me of my childhood.Even though my childhood wasn't all roses, I had this memories that brought a smile on my face whenever I remembered.“You didn't have to go through all the trouble to prepare the tea for me, nanny. You need to rest since you haven't recovered fully from…you know.” I turned my head to look at her and she flashed me a gentle smile, her eyes warm as she looked at me.We were back in my old apartment and nanny was staying with me. God, it felt so good to have her around the house because there was this warmth that she carried around with her. She would be staying with me and I had made the arrangements of her continued treatment, hiring an experienced doctor and therapist.“I thought you would need the tea to help you relax after being
KATERINATWO DAYS LATER “I wish the two of you could stay for a few more days,” My lips curled into a sad smile, my heart aching a little as I stared at Brenda and Logan.I was kinda used to having them around and it was fun. The last two days have been full of laughter, talking about anything and everything.“Don't make me emotional, Katerina. I promised I won’t cry because that will ruin my make-up.” Brenda said, blinking countless times to hold back tears.“Are you sure you don't want to stay in Aurelian city? The weather here is good, you know. Wow, can you look at the sun?”I said, turning to the sun and pretended to be mesmerized sounding convincing and they both laughed.“Nice try, but we're not going to change our mind.” Brenda said, wiping a single teardrop that rolled down her eyes.I pouted upon hearing her resistance, feeling helpless. Even though we had known each other for a few months, there was this twisted bond that we shared.Brenda and Logan decided to go back to th
