I finally had a day off, and I was determined to waste it perfectly. I was going to meet Ralph for the first time in several months since we had stopped talking after I had turned him down. He had recently replied to one of my countless messages, and we agreed to meet up. I felt guilty that our friendship had been one-sided. For me, it had been a friends-with-benefits thing, but Ralph was in love. I didn't feel the same way. When I told Lisa,

“Let's hang out,” she screamed so loud I had to cover my ears. I've been so busy lately that I never have any time for myself.

“Did something good happen today?” she asked, wearing a wide grin

“Not yet. It's just been a while since I did this. Plus, there's a new dress in my wardrobe I'm dying to wear.”

“Okay. I'm certain you don't have a place in mind.” She declared. “Leave that to meeee…!” she screamed again, “Just get dressed.” She dashed to her room to dress up as well.

In half an hour, we were at the bar. Ralph was already there. He waved us over the second we walked in.

A warm smile spread across my face when I saw him.

“Hey, Ralph.”

He stood up and pulled me into a tight hug.

“I’ve missed you.” He said, his low voice near my ear, still holding me close.

The familiar scent of him wafted through my nose,

“Same here. I missed you.”

“Are you sure you did?” Lisa mumbled under her breath. I shot her a sharp glare.

I was expecting a cold reception from him, not a warm, lingering hug. Not after telling him it was only about the sex and nothing more; that had been a cruel thing to say to someone whose feelings were undeniable. Still, it wasn't a lie. Aside from him being my best friend for fifteen years, he was my…sexmate. I simply couldn't return what he felt.

But here he was, stroking my arm as if nothing had ever gone wrong. He was always like that. That was the kind of person Ralph was: kind, faithful, loving and soft-hearted.

His deep brown, almond-shaped eyes never left my face, searching, I wasn't sure what exactly they were searching for.

“You look better than I remember; you are dashing,” I said, stroking his beard, which looked fuller now. He held my hand against his cheek and leaned into it.

“You look even more beautiful.”

“Oh no,” Lisa groaned, slapping her forehead, “Am I a third wheel? Why did you even ask me to tag along in the first place?”

Ralph and I laughed at her frustration, then we ordered our drinks.

We were on our third round of Cosmopolitans when the atmosphere changed. Heads turned.

Then they walked in.

Aldwin Ellison, New York's most talked-about billionaire bachelor.

Oh my! Could this really be him? He wasn't alone, but I was too absorbed to notice whoever was with him.

“Damn. He looks finer in person.” Lisa whispered, leaning closer. The alcohol was already getting to her. Her tolerance was embarrassingly low.

“I know, right?” I murmured, not looking away. “He's unreal.”

“I'll be back. Ladies' room.” Lisa nudged me.

I barely nodded. My gaze remained locked on the VIP balcony, fixed on the billionaire I've only heard about and seen on screens and in glossy magazines. My mind raced, plotting a hundred reckless ways to get his attention.

Ralph watched me in disbelief.

“Oh, girl. I gotta go.” Lisa’s voice snapped me out of my scheming.

“Now?” I asked, not taking my eyes off the balcony.

“My period just started,” she sighed in vexation.

“Of all the nights. This dress is brand new.” I pouted, not hiding my disappointment. Leaving now would feel like I gave up without even trying.

“You don't have to come with me.” She winked. “Just be smart, and have fun.” We both smiled knowingly, then she left.

Ralph was still talking about work, but I wasn’t paying attention to what he was saying.

“Are you that distracted?” He finally asked.

“Distracted?” I repeated absentmindedly. “Don't you know Aldwin Ellison?”

“I don't give a fuck who he is.” His phone rang at that instant,

“It's my mom. Let me take this, I'll be back.” He stood up and walked away.

A few moments later, I decided to try something bold. Silly. Who says a girl can't dream?

I walked straight to the small, lit platform near the bar. My hand wrapped around the cool brass pole as I circled it in intense, sensual moves. My hips swayed, following the rhythm. I let my hair fall loose, letting it move as freely as I did.

Heads turned, I ignored them. My eyes were fixed on the shadowed VIP balcony above. I swung my body around, unhurried. Every movement was deliberate. And then I met his gaze; He was watching.

“Girlll! You are literally living my dream.” She whispered in awe.Just then, the man walked towards us.“Miss Kora?” He asked, his face stern.“Yes,” I replied. He gave a curt gesture towards the car. I waved at Lisa, still in disbelief, and followed him.He opened the back door, motioning for me to enter. The cool, perfumed air enveloped me the moment I stepped inside. I couldn’t stop the smile that spread across my face.“So where are you taking me?” I asked the stern-looking assistant as he settled into the driver's seat.“To Aldwin.” He replied bluntly.“I know that. I mean, where exactly?”He hesitated for a moment before answering, "You'll find out when we get there.” He drove off immediately. It was quiet throughout the ride until we finally reached our destination.A giant gate swung open, and we drove in. This was it: the legendary mansion I had only heard about. It had a massive compound. A grand fountain stood at its centre. Sculptures stood in elegant poses alo

“If you think a single night with Aldwin would change anything, keep being delusional.” He glared. “Now drop everything you're doing and get the fuck out of my kitchen.” He pointed at the door.“What sort of trash are you talking about?” I slammed my hand against the table, unable to contain my anger.“You are fired. Did you think I’d overlook you being late again? You've used up every chance. I warned you too many times.” He turned and walked away. I stood there in despair. A slow, pained smile crept onto my face as I accepted the hurt as my inevitable due. “What exactly was she even thinking?” Claire said, loud enough for me to hear. I had always been a pain in her ass for no particular reason.“Aldwin Ellison? Bold move.” Glen sneered. Everyone returned to their work, except for Mikel, who lingered, watching me with a pitying expression. He squeezed my shoulder gently, “I think you should go apologise to Bobby.”“For what exactly?” I asked, fighting back the tears that welled in

A scream jerked me awake. Lisa came running into my room, screaming my name. My heart pounded so loud I could hear it. I switched off the alarm, which was still ringing; it had failed to wake me up. “What was that for? You can be annoyingly too loud sometimes.” I complained, barely listening to whatever she was blabbering about.“Will you just listen? You are all over the news. Lisa’s voice cracked with urgency. “Every media outlet is running the story about the so-called proposal from last night.” She shoved her phone in my face, “See?”Some headlines called it a scandal. Others claimed Aldwin was drunk and mistakenly proposed to a mysterious woman. Of course, that woman was me, a nobody, not worth mentioning beside a billionaire whose name alone carried weight. Someone must have recorded it last night. I wasn't surprised. In a crowded bar with phones everywhere, it was almost inevitable. The media had finally seized the story they’d been yearning for: “After years of public denia

Lisa stood at the door, ready to attack whoever was trying to break in. She gripped a six-inch stiletto, its pointed heels raised high in a perfect attack pose. “What in the world are you doing? Are you trying to kill me?” I asked, still in shock. She had already swung the heels the moment I opened the door, but it barely missed my face.“Is that even an ideal weapon if you were really in danger?” My brow furrowed in disbelief.“Why are you here? She tossed the shoe into a corner. “What happened?” She asked again, following me inside.“What do you mean, ‘Why am I here’?” I shot back. “Am I not allowed in my own house?”“Don't act so cool with me.” She looked serious now. “I wasn't expecting you back tonight. You never said you were coming home. I left you countless messages, every single one of which was read, and none were replied to. So I assumed I was interrupting something… but here you are.” “What do you mean you weren't expecting me home tonight?”“Bitch! I swear you didn't t

Somebody wake me up if I'm dreaming. Me? Wife to Aldwin Ellison? And who says dreams don't come true? Even though I never dreamt of becoming his wife, I only wanted a single entry in his little black book of pleasure. We stood outside the bar, and he still held my hand, taking glances between me and the road. Just then, a car stopped in front of us. A valet stepped out and handed the keys to Aldwin. My eyes went wide in shock. Could it be what I'm seeing? An Aston Martin Valkyrie? I wouldn't have expected anything less. It was the perfect cliché for a man like him; a million-dollar car that belonged on a racetrack. Could my night get any better? I stood there, my thoughts running wild, completely lost in the beast of a car before me, when his deep baritone shook me back from la-la land,“Get in,” He pressed a button on the key fob, and with a soft hiss, the car's door swung up into the air like a giant wing. I gasped.“Oh my God! I've never seen anything like this.” I said in utt

Aldwin’s gaze found me. The serious conversation was broken. His eyes pinned me to a spot for a few seconds, then his friend leaned in, whispering something close to his ear. He gave a nod, then his gaze broke from me, and they continued their conversation. I felt a sudden chill. I had screamed for his attention with my entire body, and he had glanced. But then, he simply looked away. I came down from the platform. As I walked to my table, a sudden applause followed me; it was meaningless. Ralph was back; he looked disappointed. “What was that for?” He asked in a low voice“I felt like dancing,” my lips curved into a resigned laugh. He watched me closely as I took a slow sip of my drink.“You looked horny,” he said flatly, “The whole fucking time, up there, you didn't look like yourself.” He caught my wrist. “What's going on, Kora?”“Man, I was merely having a good time. I danced.” I said, trying to sound convincing, but his eyes still searched my face. “No. Is this because of tha
