Cassandra’s POV

“Well that was fun,” Dillon said, heading back into the house.

I was baffled. Laura had just kissed us both. I followed Dillon inside.

“Dillon,” I said as he walked into the kitchen. He began collecting bottles. “Am I going crazy or did Laura just kiss us both? On the lips?”

“Hm?” he asked, an empty bottle in his hand.

“I mean, I know I had a lot to drink. But I’m pretty sure that just happened. She kissed us.”

“Oh that? It’s nothing. Laura’s always that,” he said nonchalantly.

Right.

“Laura always kisses people on the mouth?” I asked, stunned by Dillon’s blaze response.

“Yup,” he said. “She’s an affectionate person. It’s not a big deal.”

Except that I’d never kissed another woman on the lips before, except for my mother.

“She kisses girls?” I asked.

“Well yeah. Laura’s bisexual.” He tossed the bottle into the recycling and went out to th

Cassandra’s POV I was sitting at work the next day, still going over the conversation I’d had with Lisa. I was both stunned and unnerved by some of the things she’d said. If Dillon had known that Laura had an abortion, why had he told me she lost the baby? Was he intentionally lying to me? And if so, why? Then there was the whole sociopath thing. I googled it and read a brief definition. Lisa’s description had been pretty spot on though. From what I could gather, IF Laura really was a sociopath, then she didn’t really care about anyone and she felt no guilt if she hurt someone’s feelings. She also had a complete disregard for what was ‘right’ or ‘wrong’. I struggled to put this into context with the Laura I’d met. She didn’t seem like a sociopath, not by definition anyway. But hey, I hardly knew the woman. I appreciated Lisa filling me in on Laura’s history. Just as I appreciated her vague warning not to trust Laura. It wasn’t th

Cassandra’s POV What did she just say? “Pardon?” I balked. “Yeah. Well, an undiagnosed one. At least, that’s what my mom thinks. I agree. My dad too. We didn’t really realize it until she’d moved away. My mother asked Laura’s father to have her tested, but he flat out refused. It explains a lot of her behavior over the years.” “A sociopath?” I repeated. “As in…” “No,” she shook her head. “You’re probably thinking of a psychopath. Laura’s not that. A sociopath is something entirely different. It’s actually a form of a disorder called ASPD, or antisocial personality disorder,” Lisa explained. But I was having a hard time moving past the image of Laura as a murderer. Lisa must have seen the expression on my face because she chuckled. “Don’t worry. Laura’s not a killer. She’d never hurt anyone. Not physically, anyway.” So I pushed that image out of my mind and listened to Lisa further explain.

Cassandra’s POV Abortion? But that didn’t make any sense. According to Dillon, he’d married her because she was pregnant. He thought it was the right thing to do. Then Laura had lost the baby and they realized there was no need to stay married. So they’d divorced. “I don’t understand,” I shook my head. “That’s not what Dillon told me.” “Maybe that’s the story they agreed to tell people?” Lisa offered. “But it wasn’t a miscarriage. It was definitely an abortion. Laura told me so herself. She said she decided she couldn’t have a baby. Although she didn’t say why. She booked an appointment and had the abortion. She didn’t tell Dillon until it was done.” My mind spun. Is that why they got divorced? Because Laura had an abortion that Dillon didn’t want? But if Laura didn’t want the baby, then why did she marry Dillon in the first place? Unless she changed her mind somewhere along the lines. Dillon had seemed so

Cassandra’s POV I scanned the crowded coffee shop for Lisa. I caught her eye and she waved at me. I motioned that I was just going to grab a coffee before I came to join her. She nodded. With my coffee in hand, I sat down with Lisa. “I assume this meeting is about my sister?” Lisa said, cutting right to the chase. I chuckled. I appreciated how ‘straight to the point’ Lisa was. She was a woman who got shit done, which was why I was really hoping she’d choose to join my team after her internship with Stella. Honestly, Stella and I were both warring a bit to win over Lisa. We both adored her and she had quickly become an asset to Hot House Flower. She was currently undecided though if she wanted to join my team in fashion design, or Stella’s team in the business acumen of the company. “It is,” I nodded. “Is she behaving?” Lisa asked, blowing on her latte. Steam billowed up from the mug. “Yes,” I replied. I found

Cassandra’s POV “Oh, hi Cassandra,” Laura waved at me.I stopped dead in my tracks. Was I really seeing what I was seeing? Laura was splayed out on an air mattress, in a bikini that left little to the imagination. Her glossy black hair shone in the afternoon sun.“Did you have a nice lunch with Stell?”Stell? They were on a nickname basis already?“Sure. Um, where’s Dillon?” I asked.“Just a minute. I can’t really hear you.”She started paddling her hands in the water trying to come to the side of the pool. But she wasn’t getting very far. I watched her with narrowed eyes. What the hell was Laura doing, clad in a bikini, in MY backyard? “Oh, the heck with this,” she said. In one, fluid move, she rolled off the air mattress and into the water. I watched as she swam underwater to the side of the pool. Then she emerged, all wet and shiny, like a fucking mermaid.“Woo, it’s still a bit chilly,” she giggled, hoisting herself up over the side of the pool. Her nipples poked thro
