Just Beginning

I have a dinner party tonight with Laurent's parents, believe it or not.

It wasn't my idea, of course. Olivia and Daniel invited my moms to their house and then invited me too, as an afterthought. Usually I would say no, but my mother says they want to fix years of bad relationship now that Laurent is gone and we should be cordial.

I just want to go because I have a personal mission: sneak into Laurent's room again and steal something else from him that I can wear in public without fear of being charged thousands of dollars for stealing it.

As soon as we get to their house I breathe in hard, trying to inhale Laurent's scent. It's faint, but it’s still here and something is better than nothing.
