Chapter 2

Author: Space Journey
"Because I like—" I stopped myself just in time. "Because you seem really helpful."

I couldn't exactly say it was because I liked his voice.

Trey chuckled again. "The upperclassmen here are all really friendly. Everyone's willing to help if you ever need anything."

My face burned. Still, I gathered my courage and looked at him. "What's your major?"

"Design."

"Mine too."

"What a coincidence. If you ever have any questions, just ask."

"Okay."

Once registration was done, I stopped walking.

Sunlight caught Trey's handsome face, making him look completely at ease.

I couldn't help but wonder if my tutor was this good-looking too.

Catching me staring, Trey suddenly jogged over.

Panicked, I looked away, suddenly unsure where to rest my eyes.

He stopped in front of me and pulled out his phone. "By the way, let's follow each other on Instagram. It'll be easier to stay in touch."

I stiffly pulled out my phone.

I used to mostly use Facebook. It was only after I got over my unrequited crush that I switched to Instagram.

The account was brand new.

Trey noticed the registration date and burst out laughing. "A goody-two-shoes, huh? Don't use social media much? It's fine. Now that you're in college, you'll get to experience a lot of new things."

Under his teasing, my face turned red all over again. I wished God would just shut him up.

When classes started, I stared blankly at the guy standing at the front of the lecture hall.

Trey?

He stood there, exuding a sense of refined confidence.

"I hope we can all get along in the coming days…"

As I looked at the man standing onstage, I was frozen in shock. He was my freshman advisor.

Still in shock, I whispered to the student next to me, "Isn't he a senior?"

The classmate nodded. "You don't know Trey? Yeah, he's a senior, but he's not your average senior. He already secured a spot in our school's grad program and became an advisor. He's the most popular upperclassman here!"

My eyes were glued to Trey.

As if sensing my intense gaze, he glanced in my direction. The moment our eyes met, my heart started racing for no reason.

Like a total coward, I quickly looked away.

Even when I got back to the dorms, my mind was still spinning.

Since it was the first week, my roommates were busy introducing themselves and trying to bond.

I gathered my courage and joined in. "I'm Alisha Wilson, majoring in design. Nice to meet everyone."

"I'm Elin Bowers…"

"I'm Mariah Norton, and I love to dance…"

Once the introductions were over, a room full of women meant only one thing—gossip.

As the youngest advisor and the most popular upperclassman, Trey was naturally the main topic of conversation.

"Trey is just way too perfect. He's practically a grad student. How amazing do you have to be to pull that off?"

"The best part is he's not just hot. He has an amazing personality too. His smile is so bright!"

"Is a guy that perfect single?"

"When I was moving in, I heard from an upperclassman that he's been bouncing between our school and Carthen lately, looking for some heartless Internet friend of his."

That last comment pushed everyone's gossip radar into overdrive.

Seeing me on the verge of tears, Trey instantly panicked. "Hey, don't cry. Trey's lecture had to be brought to a halt. The lecture hall immediately dissolved into whispers about who could possibly be on the other end. Who possessed the power to make the ever-professional Trey check his phone mid-lecture?"Trey is actually texting during class. Who do you think it is?""Is that even a question? Who else would he care that much about besides a girlfriend?"I was too buried in my own misery to pay attention to the gossip. Staring down at my phone, I let out a helpless sigh and put it away, only to hear my name echo through the room. "Alisha."I stood up, completely dazed. "…Huh?"Trey's voice was gentle. "No phones during class."My face flushed. "Right, sorry."It really was true that they could see everything from the podium. I had only glanced at my phone for a second and got caught immediately.Up at the front, Trey's phone fell completely silent again. At that moment, that strange feeling crept back into my mind.No way. To help everyone bond, our class went out for a group dinner that night, and the conversation was loud and chaotic.I had never been a fan of big crowds, so I instinctively pulled out my phone and started scrolling out of boredom.Glancing up, I noticed Trey sitting directly across from me, also staring at his phone. For someone usually so vibrant and outgoing, he sat there quietly, looking like a total outsider tonight. As if sensing my gaze, he looked up.
