The hospital room felt too small.

Detective Sarah Chen sat across from me, her notepad open, pen poised. Mid-forties, sharp eyes, no-nonsense expression. She'd introduced herself an hour ago, but my mind was still foggy from pain medication and shock.

"Mrs. Sterling, I need you to walk me through the evening one more time," she said. Her voice was gentle but firm. "Start from when you left the gala."

I swallowed hard. Calloway's hand found mine, squeezed.

"We left around eleven," I said. "Calloway wanted to drive. We took his Mercedes. The highway was mostly empty."

"And when did you first notice the brake failure?"

"Maybe ten minutes into the drive? We were approaching the bridge." My voice shook. "Calloway pressed the brake and nothing happened. Then the emergency brake failed too. The engine wouldn't shut off."

Detective Chen wrote quickly. "Did you notice anyt

CALLOWAY They shoved me out of the operating room like I was nothing. Like I wasn't watching my entire world collapse behind those doors. Like the woman I loved wasn't dying ten feet away while I stood here, helpless and useless. "Mr. Sterling, please—" The nurse tried to guide me toward the waiting area, her hand on my elbow, her voice professionally sympathetic. She'd done this before. Ushered panicked family members away from trauma. Delivered bad news. Watched people break. I yanked my arm away. Pressed against the glass window of the OR doors. Inside, I could see controlled chaos. Too many people crowded around Elena's still form. Dr. Morrison barking orders, her hands moving fast, covered in blood. Nurses rushing around with bags of fluid, syringes, instruments I didn't recognize. Machines scr

The fluorescent lights of the hospital corridor blurred into streaks as they rushed me down the hallway. My hand gripped the gurney rail so hard my knuckles went white. "We need to prep OR 3!" Dr. Morrison's voice cut through the chaos. "Now!" Another contraction ripped through me. I screamed. Couldn't help it. The pain was unlike anything I'd experienced—sharp, relentless, wrong. "The baby's heart rate is dropping," a nurse called out. "140... 130..." No. No, no, no. "Elena, look at me." Dr. Morrison's face appeared above mine. "We need to do an emergency C-section. The baby's in distress. Do you understand?" I tried to nod but another wave of agony stole my breath. It felt like my body was tearing itself apart from the inside. Every muscle contracted, every nerve scr

  • EX-HUSBAND'S REGRET (It's Too Late To Apologise)   Breaking Point

I couldn't sleep. Every time I closed my eyes, I saw the bridge. Felt the car spinning. Heard the screech of metal against concrete. Calloway sat in the chair beside my hospital bed, his laptop open, phone constantly buzzing with updates. He hadn't left my side in twelve hours. "You should go home," I said quietly. "Get some rest." "I'm not leaving you." "Calloway—" "I said I'm not leaving." His voice was final. He didn't look up from his screen. The baby kicked. Hard enough to make me wince. Dr. Morrison had cleared me for discharge that morning. No complications. No contractions. Just exhaustion and minor bruising. But I couldn't shake the text message. *Delete Calloway from your life, or I'll delete your baby from existence.* "We should talk," I said. "About what?" "About

  • EX-HUSBAND'S REGRET (It's Too Late To Apologise)   Car Crash

The world became a blur of speed and terror. Calloway's knuckles were white on the steering wheel. His jaw set in concentration as he fought to control the car hurtling down the highway at ninety miles per hour. "Hold on," he said through gritted teeth. I couldn't speak. Couldn't breathe. My hands pressed against my belly, feeling our daughter kick frantically inside me. The bridge loomed ahead. Two narrow lanes. Metal railings on either side. A hundred-foot drop to the black water below. "Calloway—" My voice broke. "I know." His eyes darted to the rearview mirror. Empty highway behind us. No other cars. Just us and the darkness and the bridge getting closer every second. He yanked the wheel hard to the right. The car swerved violently. Tires screamed against asphalt. I was thrown against the seatbelt, the pressure cutting into my chest.

The silence in the ballroom was suffocating. Every eye locked on me. On the screen. On the damning footage that I couldn't explain. My hands trembled against my belly. The baby kicked hard, like she could sense my panic. "Elena." Calloway's voice was controlled. Too controlled. "Look at me." I couldn't. If I looked at him and saw doubt in those gray eyes— "Sterling!" Damien's voice rang out triumphantly. "Face it. Your wife is a—" "Liar." Marcus's voice cut through the chaos like a knife. He stepped forward from the crowd, his phone held high. Every head turned toward him. "Damien Anderson is a liar," Marcus continued, his voice carrying easily through the silent room. "That footage? It's edited. Heavily. And I can prove it." "What?" Damien's confidence faltered. "That's security footage. You can't fake—" "You didn't fak
