Chapter 6 The Wedding’s Off

Summer raised an eyebrow at me, her fingers tapping restlessly. I knew instantly what her look meant.

"Yep, you're spot on. I lost my virginity last night, but not to Liam."

The mere mention of that name turned my stomach. How could I have been so blind to choose such a loathsome man?

"What? You were with another man last night? What's going on?" Summer's eyes widened, and her jaw nearly hit the floor.

Sensing her utter shock, I filled her in on the sordid details of catching Liam and Julia together the night before.

"No way… Liam did that? He's lower than an animal!" Fuming with rage, Summer let loose a torrent of insults against Liam.

"Hold on. What about the wedding? Isn't today supposed to be the big day?" Jolted by a sudden realization, Summer gave me a worried look.

"The wedding’s off,” I declared.

As I said this, a wrenching pain engulfed my heart. This was a wedding I had looked forward to for many years. I had planned every little detail. All my love, my dreams, and my efforts had gone into it. Now, it was all ashes.

"Summer, I'm tired. I need to rest."

Although the mere thought of Liam repulsed me, he was the man I had loved for a full seven years. Pretending it did not hurt would be lying to myself. At that moment, all I craved was the solace of sleep, to erase him from my life as though he had never existed.

Understanding my emotional turmoil, Summer quietly left the room.

I lost track of time sleeping. When I finally awoke, I heard the buzz of heated conversation in the living room. Liam's voice was among them. It sounded like Summer was arguing with him. I opened the bedroom door to find Liam sitting on the living room sofa, while Summer looked furious.

"Rina!" Liam called out when his eyes met mine.

"What are you doing here, Mr. Liam? You're not welcome here." I suppressed the urge to confront him about his betrayal and deliberately put on an icy front.

"Rina, about last night..." Liam got up and walked toward me, his eyes clouded with guilt.

"Oh, are you going to tell me about how passionate you were in bed with my former best friend last night? Right in front of Summer?" Sarcasm laced my words, and my pent-up anger was ready to explode.

"Rina, I know last night was my fault. But Julia and I, we truly love each other. I—"

I cut him off. "Enough! We're through, Liam. You don't owe me an explanation. You claimed I’m forcing you into getting married. Well, guess what? You're free now."

The irony was staggering. He had cheated on me with my former best friend and they even had a child together. Yet, he claimed to truly love her. If they did, then what was I to him during our entire seven-year relationship?
