Chapter 65

“You’re quiet now.” Jason’s face was right in front of mine. His breath touched my skin, heavy and cold. “For someone who was running her mouth a few moments ago, you look calm. What happened to all that fire, Andrea?”

I blinked, unsure how to answer. My throat felt like sandpaper, the words stuck somewhere between fear and confusion. I wasn’t prepared for this part of the plan. I was so confident nothing could go wrong.

My skin crawled. The wire taped beneath my blouse suddenly felt like it was burning into me. I wrapped my arms around myself instinctively, eyes flashing around the restaurant. There were only a few people scattered across tables. No one was paying attention. No one saw what was about to go wrong.

Jason’s voice dropped low. “Come on, Andrea. Let’s take this off. It’s ridiculous.”

He reached forward, fingers brushing the edge of my collar like he owned me. Like he could just touch and take and do as he pleased.

“No,” I snapped, my voice cracking. I stood up

Chapter 66 Jake’s words were comforting, but my emotions were still getting the best of me. My knees stayed folded on the floor, my vision blurred because of the tears in my eyes. My fingers dug into the hem of my blouse like it was the only thing keeping me from falling apart, My eyes were fixed on the floor “Andrea,” he said, not forcing me to look at him. “Hey. It’s okay. You’re okay.”I couldn’t lift my head. Not yet. The tremble in my arms was still too raw, my chest too tight. Jake had said it was okay, but I didn’t feel okay in any way. It broke me to see myself like this. But seeing how Jason harassed me and tried to force himself on me… it was a nightmare.Jake stretched his hand gently removed my hand from the hem of my blouse, and held my hands.“I need you to breathe, alright?” he murmured.I didn’t respond to him.“Andrea,” he called out I finally looked up, tears falling freely down my cheeks. I let out a shaky breath.“Breathe, Andrea,” he said, breathing in through

Chapter 67Claire povThe soft chime of the boutique’s entrance bell echoed through the store.I stepped out of my office, ready to attend to one of my favorite clients who was checking out our latest collection in the dress section. As I walked closer to her, wearing a big smile on my face, my gaze shifted—and there she was.Andrea.Her shoulders were slightly hunched, and her eyes darted around like she was trying to hide whatever storm was going on inside her. My heart skipped a beat—not from worry, but from a flicker of annoyance. Why does she have to come now? I have a client to attend to.Yes, I had told her I wanted to see her, but that was only to cover my tracks. I didn’t want her to suspect that I was the one who told Jason she was wearing a wire. Jason had warned me—strictly—not to let Andrea find out I was the one that tipped him off, I was doing all the work for him and still he wanted to push me aside. And after everything I’ve done for him, he still had the guts to try

Just trust me, okay?” I paused, then continued gently, “Uhm, Andrea… this might not be the right time, but over the phone, you said something like—Jason tried to kiss you. What happened?”I wasn’t asking out of curiosity. I needed to know the full story before I confronted Jason. That way, he wouldn’t be able to wiggle out of it.“Oh, Claire… whenever I think about that, I feel sick in my stomach.” She bent forward, holding her belly.“I can’t imagine how terrified you were when it happened. How exactly did it happen?” I asked, leaning forward, trying to make sure she knew I was there for her.“After he found out I was wearing a wire, he told me to take it off. I refused. We started struggling. Then the wireless mic fell on the floor and he smashed it. A

Chapter 69Jason POVThe cigar burned slowly between my fingers, smoke curling lazily into the night air. I sat back in the cushioned chair on my balcony, legs stretched out, eyes locked on nothing in particular. The city lights blinked in the distance like.I took another drag, letting the bitter smoke fill my lungs before exhaling with a low grunt.“Damn,” I muttered, jaw tightening. “That lunch almost ruined everything.”If Claire hadn’t told me Andrea was wearing a wire, by now I’d be all over the headlines. Andrea and Jake would be sipping wine, laughing over my downfall. That would’ve been a massive loss for me.I flicked the ash off the end of the cigar, leaning forward with my elbows on my knees. My fingers twitched slightly.“She thought she could outsmart me,” I said under my breath.I shook my head.“But Jason, you should have known,” I muttered to myself. “She called all sweet and calm, asking to meet up. The Andrea I talked to earlier that day was full of fury like she wa

Chapter 70Claire POVI meant every word I said to Jason. I wasn’t going to sit down and do nothing if he tried to play funny around me. I wouldn’t go down alone. I’d make sure to bring him down with me. Nothing—not even Jason himself—could separate us.“Baby, I got some gifts for you,” Jason said, stepping out of the closet with a big designer gift bag in his hand. He had left the room minutes ago, saying he wanted to check on some of his stuff.I didn’t flinch and kept my expression cool, but my heart fluttered with joy.“You think gifts fix everything?” I turned away from him, walked to the bed, and sat on the edge with a dramatic sigh, faking a frown.Jason chuckled softly and moved toward me. “Claire, my love…” He knelt on one knee, placing the gift beside me with careful hands. “I know you’re still mad, but I promise—something like this will never happen again.”This was exactly what I wanted—for Jason to long for me, to chase me.“It’s fine, babe,” I said, my tone softer now a

Chapter 71Andrea POVAfter my meeting with Claire, I stayed in my room. I didn’t want to see anyone. Didn’t want to talk. The walls felt safer than faces I couldn’t trust. My mom had knocked earlier, asking if I was okay, but I didn’t even open the door. I just told her I was tired.Truth was, I wasn’t tired. I was shutting down.I lay curled up on my bed, staring at the ceiling like it held answers I couldn’t find. My phone buzzed a few times, but I ignored it. I wasn’t in the mood for any conversations. I didn’t even have the energy to pretend I was okay.Everything felt loud in my head. Jason. The wire. The look on Claire’s face when I questioned her. I was falling apart, and I knew it. Maybe I should’ve handled it differently. Maybe I shouldn’t have gone to that damn lunch at all. Now Jason was somewhere laughing, probably celebrating. He had won—again—and I was stuck here, dragging the blade of regret over fresh wounds.A soft knock at the door broke through the silence.I shut

Chapter 72 Andrea - POVThe room was quiet again, but something in the air had shifted. The heaviness that had wrapped itself around my chest all day started to loosen its grip. Not completely—but enough for me to breathe again.Jake was still seated across from me, his elbows resting on his knees, eyes steady. He hadn’t looked away from me since he dropped the bomb about Jason’s money laundering. It still felt surreal, like something out of a crime drama. Every time I heard something new about Jason, I realized I never really knew the man I had spent fifteen years of my life with.A total stranger.“Tomorrow,” Jake said, breaking the silence. “We’ll go together. To his office. Face him directly.”I sat up straighter. “Okay… so what’s our plan when we get there?”“I have a document,” he said, leaning forward, voice calm but firm. “It has everything—the full list of evidence. When we get to him, we let him know we’re aware he’s been laundering money. He’ll deny it at first. That’s whe

Chapter 73Andrea’s POVMy eyes were open before the alarm even went off.I hadn’t slept much after Jake left my room last night. I’d been looking forward to this morning—I was too anxious to relax, my nerves were too shot to sleep. And even when I dozed off, my dreams still had me face-to-face with Jason in his office, rehearsing the confrontation over and over again.I pushed myself upright, swinging my legs over the side of the bed. As I sat there, blinking against the early light, my eyes caught the soft glow of my phone screen on the nightstand. I reached for it, thumbing through my messages lazily. That’s when I saw it—the last message from the anonymous sender. It hit me. There hadn’t been any new messages since the accident in Seattle. Had they given up tormenting me? Or… if it was Jason all along, had he decided to end his little hide-and-seek game?My thumb hovered over the screen. Chapter 99Andrea's pov There was no clock in the room. No window, no sun, no ticking hand to mark the passing of time. But somehow, I knew it had been close to two days. My body told me. The aching bones. The heaviness behind my eyes. The way my stomach twisted and turned—not just from hunger, but from fear. Two nights. Two damn nights.I had slept. I wasn’t sure when or how, but the dreams had been hollow and sharp-edged, like broken glass on repeat. Every time I woke up, I hoped it was all over. That the door would burst open and I’d be rescued from this pain and torture. But no. Same walls. Same cold floor. Same silence.Except when they came. They didn’t speak. They just came in—faces masked, eyes dull—and dropped food like I was some stray they had to keep alive. After the last time I’d tried to run, they no longer untied my hands. One would hold me still while the other brought the spoon to my lips. No words. No looks. Like I wasn’t human. Like I wasn’t even there. My throat b

  • Ex-Husband’s Nemesis   Disappeared

Chapter 98 Jake's pov It had been 24 hours since we had heard nothing from Andrea. No calls, no texts, nothing—no sign. The silence was deafening. Everyone in the house was in a panic. Andrea’s mother had been restless. She sat scrunched on the edge of the couch, her eyes swollen from crying, hands wringing a tissue that had long since given up holding anything back. Her father paced by the window, arms folded tightly, a muscle ticking in his jaw every time his phone lit up with nothing. “Where could she be?” her mother whispered, barely audible over the ticking clock. “What if… something had happened to—” She burst out crying, unable to finish the sentence. Andrea’s father walked to her, holding her hands, trying to console her. “She’s fine, darling. Andrea is a strong girl. Nothing has happened to her. Maybe she needed space. Maybe she’s trying to clear her head.” But even he didn’t believe it. None of us did. I sat there, my leg bouncing uncontrollably, trying to calm the

  • Ex-Husband’s Nemesis   Tied and Terrified

Chapter 97Andrea's pov I jolted awake, my neck aching from the awkward position I’d dozed off in. I must have slept off out of tiredness, or maybe I just wanted to escape this terror so badly. For a fleeting moment, I hoped it was all a nightmare—that if I just closed my eyes and slept, I’d wake up in the comfort of my bed, thinking about the bad dream I had.But reality slapped me faster than any pinch could.I was still here. Still tied. Still trapped. The same damp air filled my lungs. The faint buzz of that godforsaken light above hummed in my ears. I blinked, trying to clear the haze.I shifted slightly. The ropes binding my hands and feet hurt my skin. My mouth was dry, and my stomach growled in protest.“Can I have some water?” I called out weakly. But there was no response.“Is anyone there?” I screamed.Still no response.“Ughhh…” I breathed out in frustration.Time seemed to blur. I had no idea how long I’d been here. Minutes? Hours? A whole day?Panic trickled in slowly—n

  • Ex-Husband’s Nemesis   Where's Andrea???

Chapter 95Jake's pov I checked my watch for the third time in ten minutes.Four hours.Four whole hours.I’d been sitting here, surrounded by wedding gowns and impatient whispers from the boutique staff, waiting for Andrea to walk through that door. But nothing. No call. No text. Nothing. My phone sat heavy in my palm, screen dim. I tapped it, then called again. Her number went straight to voicemail like it had the last four times. I ran a hand through my hair and exhaled slowly, trying to keep calm.Maybe she got stuck in traffic. Or maybe her mum dragged her into something. But something about this—this stillness—wasn’t sitting right. The boutique door finally opened with a jingle. I looked up, half-expecting to see Andrea, annoyed or flustered, maybe rolling her eyes at how late she was. But it was her mum.“Sorry I’m late,” she said, smoothing her purse strap as she walked in. “I had a few things to sort out. So, how many gowns has she tried on?” she asked with a smile as she go

Chapter 95When I opened my eyes, everything felt wrong. The first thing I noticed was the ache in my neck, a pulsing stiffness that crawled down my spine like ice. The second was the bitter sting of rope cutting into my wrists, binding me to the arms of a wooden chair. My legs were tied, too—--- -tight, I couldn’t move. My heart launched itself against my chest.Panic bloomed before I could stop it.Where the hell was I?The room was dim, too quiet. Cold air brushed against my skin—cement floor, no windows. There was a faint hum from somewhere above, like the buzz of a fluorescent light, but nothing else. No footsteps. No distant voices. Just… me.And fear.I tried to remember. The last clear moment was getting into that taxi—yes, I’d told the driver where to go, buckled my seatbelt. Then… the car slowing, a strange silence, and his hand—gloved—pressing something over my nose.A handkerchief. My blood ran cold.“Oh my God,” I whispered, the words scraping out of my dry throat. “No, n

  • Ex-Husband’s Nemesis   The Ride

Chapter 94I was already dressed for work when my Mum knocked on my door.“Andrea,” she’d said in that sugary tone she always used when she wanted something. “Darling, you’re not going to the office today.”I’d stared at her, halfway through buttoning my blouse. “Why not?”She smiled like it was obvious. “Because you have a wedding dress appointment. You’re getting married, remember?”Right. The wedding. The thing that now dictated my entire schedule. And just like that, I was “canceled” for the day.I didn’t argue. There was no point in doing that. So I changed into a more casual dress, trying not to roll my eyes every time I caught my reflection. I just wanted this wedding circus to be over. Honestly, at this point, I didn’t care what gown I wore. I’d walk down the aisle in a paper bag if it meant we could skip the drama and move on.As I adjusted the strap of my sandal, I heard soft footsteps behind me. I turned and froze.“Annabel?”She smiled gently from the doorway, her apron fr

  • Ex-Husband’s Nemesis   Somewhere between us

Chapter 93 Andrea’s POV The past few days had been all about the wedding to-do lists and half-hearted planning. It wasn’t anything big—nothing fancy or extravagant. Just enough to keep up appearances. Cake tasting, picking color palettes, and finding a venue that wouldn’t give me a headache. My mom was more into it than I was. She’d pulled out her old wedding scrapbook and kept calling me at odd hours, pitching ideas I could barely pretend to care about. I played along, though. Smiled when I had to, and nodded when I didn’t want to. If it was left to Jake and me, we would’ve just gone to the registry and gotten married. But it wasn’t just about us. At least today, I could take a break from the whole wedding façade. Today, I was going back to work. The car ride was quiet. I had my window halfway down, letting the breeze hit my face as the city passed by in a blur. I wasn’t dressed like a bride-to-be—just a woman trying to feel like herself again. Sleek trousers, a button-up shirt

I’m carrying your baby.” Claire placed her hand over her stomach like a damn crown jewel, head held high, daring me to speak.I took a step back, almost tripping over the leg of the chair I’d shoved earlier. My mouth opened, but no words came. She’s pregnant. With my child. My child.A part of me wanted to call it good news—hell, I needed an heir. I’d always planned to have one, just that the timing… the timing was wrong. Not when everything around me was falling apart, and Claire—Claire was slipping through my fingers and acting like a completely different person.“This… this isn’t the time,” I muttered, dragging a shaky hand down my face.Claire raised a brow. “Excuse me?”“I said this isn’t the damn time!” I snapped, my voice louder than I meant it to be. “I’ve got a million fires to put out, and now—this? You’re telling me this now?”“I didn’t plan the timing, Jason,” she said flatly. “I didn’t exactly s

  • Ex-Husband’s Nemesis   When lotality turns

Chapter 91Jason’s POVI couldn’t breathe. Not in the exaggerated way people say it—I mean it literally. My chest was heavy, like something was sitting on it, and no matter how hard I tried, the air just wouldn’t come.Andrea. Engaged. To Jake. The words kept hammering through my head like a chant. Like a curse. Every time I tried to shake it off, it came back—stronger, louder—choking the air out of my lungs. She ended the call. She hung up on me like I was nothing. Like I didn’t matter.I gripped the edge of the table, my knuckles turning white. The glass of whiskey beside me trembled with the weight of my shaking hand. She was mine. Mine. How the hell could she be marrying Jake of all people? Jake. The man I hated more than anyone walking this earth. The one person who had always tried to compete with me, outshine me.Jake always looked at me like I was beneath him.And now he had Andrea.No. No, this was a joke.
