[Asher]

"Sir please help me." Emily's voice cut through the speakers. "Fire, there's fire everywhere, sir. Please come find me. My location is turned on." Emily's voice rang out, and before my brain could catch up, I was already running toward the exit.

My jaw clenched so hard I thought my teeth would shatter.

Tristan's worried voice faded into the background as he continuously asked me what was going on.

I couldn't speak.

No, every word I tried to speak couldn't get past my lips as Emily's voice rang in my ear over and over.

Fire...what the hell? How?

My jaw clenched as I stared at her location on my screen. It looked nowhere like where a cafe would be.

I didn't need someone to tell me that Vienna had done something reckless.

Fuck!! Have I been living with a monster all these years?

How blind have I been?

What other freaking things do I not know or I thought I knew about Vienna?

"Asher what the hell is going on?" Tristan snapped for the umpteenth time. "Where is she? Where

[Asher]"Damn it. I didn't fucking think about that." Tristan growled."I didn’t either." I slammed my palm hard against the steering wheel, the sharp sound echoing my frustration. "My mom just said it, the fuck is wrong with me? Not once did it cross my mind.""Easy, man." Tristan’s voice was low, almost a whisper, as his hand landed gently on my back, trying to steady me.I shut my eyes tight for a moment, forcing myself to focus on the road ahead. "How can I take it easy, Tristan?" My voice cracked, raw with fear. "I’m not even one percent sure that bastard is still alive. I don’t even know if he’s still in Boston. What if we can’t find him? What happens to Darian then?""We will." Tristan’s words came steady, but I could hear the tremble beneath them—as if he was trying to convince himself more than me. "Nothing’s going to happen to Darian. I believe that. I fucking do."Less than ten minutes later, the hospital loomed before us.My entire body stiffened, heart sinking deeper and

[Asher]"No… no… no… wake me up, Asher! You better wake me the hell up!" My mother’s voice broke through the air, sharp and desperate, but even her screaming sounded distant—muffled beneath the thunder pounding in my chest. She came by my house this morning and met me disoriented, and of course, I couldn't hide what was going on from her anymore. I glanced down at my watch. 10 a.m.Less than forty-eight hours before my son faced a fate no parent should ever imagine.Vienna.That devil was nowhere to be found.Nowhere.Darian had nearly lost his life right after Vienna unleashed her madness, but thank fucking goodness that Dr. Benedict was able to stabilize him. Right after the chaos was over, there was no sign of Vienna. How blind had I been? How did I not see the signs on this woman? What was this all for?I was never her first choice. I was her backup plan—a man she knew she could manipulate when her perfect world fell apart. And I let her.I let Vienna use me for years. I let her

[Asher]The room instantly tilted. For a second, it felt like the floor dropped out from under me.I opened my mouth to speak—but nothing came out.My eyes shifted slowly to Vienna. She was leaning against the wall now, her face pale, her eyes blown wide as one hand dragged through her hair over and over again."I don’t know what he’s talking about," Vienna said weakly."And from my experience as a doctor," Dr. Benedict added, "The extent of the damage shows it has been present for years.""Just shut the fuck up!" Vienna screamed, tears streaming down her cheeks. "You’re just saying trash! Darian is my son, you quack doctor!"I stood there, frozen, staring from the doctor back to her as my brain went completely numb.Damaged womb.Non-viable eggs. Not capable.A memory slammed into me so hard my heart began to race."You lost our child and had complications."The words Noel had said earlier echoed in my head, and suddenly my heartbeat doubled, then tripled.I spun around, my eyes flyi

[Asher]My brow creased for what felt like the hundredth time as my eyes moved from Vienna to the doctor and back to Vienna. She looked like she would rather be anywhere else in the world than standing here—like this room, this moment, was choking the life out of her.And maybe it was.Doctors made mistakes. They were human. They misread results. They mixed files. It had to be that. It had to be."Doctor," I said slowly, forcing my voice to stay calm even though something ugly was beginning to claw its way up my chest, "I’m sure this result must be mistaken. What do you mean by my wife’s DNA and that of my son aren’t compatible?"Before the doctor could even open his mouth, Vienna exploded behind me."Exactly!" she yelled, her voice sharp, panicked. "He makes silly mistakes. That’s why you should let him fucking go before he kills our son!"Something in me snapped. My jaw clenched so hard it hurt. My lips pressed together as I turned on her slowly, deliberately."Listen," I said, my v

[Asher]I stared down at the watch in my hand.9:45 p.m.It had been over an hour since the doctor took samples from Vienna, and every second since then felt stretched thin.My lips pressed into a tight line as I lifted my gaze from the watch to the couch across the room.Vienna sat there beside Darian, her body angled toward him, one hand clamped tightly over his small fingers. Tears slid down her cheeks without pause, one after the other, like she couldn’t stop them even if she wanted to.But I knew better.I swallowed hard as Tristan’s words from earlier came crashing back into my head, sharp and uninvited."I don’t know what I’m feeling, but keep your eyes on Vienna. You can see it all over her — she’s up to no good."I tilted my head slightly, the sentence replaying over and over in my mind like a broken record. My jaw clenched as my eyes stayed fixed on Vienna. Her grip on Darian’s hand looked almost desperate, her fingers locked around his like she was afraid he might disappear

[Elena]"Girl, at this point I think I should pick up my things and relocate back to Boston. What the heck is going on in that city?" Natalia yelled for what felt like the umpteenth time.I swallowed hard, lifting the glass in my hand and taking a slow sip of water, hoping it would calm the tightness crawling up my chest. My lips pressed together as I tried—failed—to shove down the strange, restless feeling that had been messing with me for hours now. It clung to me, stubborn and heavy, refusing to let go.I ended up calling Natalia after sleep refused to come and my thoughts wouldn't stay in one place.Because tell me why I couldn’t stop thinking about Asher and Vienna’s son? Why did his face keep flashing in my mind? And why the hell has my chest been thumping?Do I need to go get checked at the hospital or what?"Elena?" Nat mumbled, snapping me out of my thoughts. "What’s going on?"I inhaled sharply, setting the glass down on the kitchen counter a little too hard."Nothing. I’m g
