Chapter Sixteen

I waited throughout the rest of the day, even up until bedtime, yet Nox didn’t come home. Restless, I tossed and turned in bed, thinking of what I would say to Nox when he arrived.

Eventually, I must have fallen asleep because I found myself at the edge of that cliff again.

This time, there was a storm accompanied by blinding flashes of lightning. In the midst of the darkness, I noticed red, glowing eyes, watching me, triggering in me an overwhleming urge to run. But when I turned around, to my horror, I discovered that there was nowhere to escape except over the cliff.

An ominous presence approached from behind, and when I turned, I realized the red-eyed monster was none other than Mabel, bearing a striking resemblance to Emilia.
