FINDING HER WAY CHAPTER 1
Waking up with the sounds of nature spilling into my room. It was early but I enjoyed waking with the sun. The soft rays gently caressing my skin and the cool breeze coming in through the perpetually open window gave me a peaceful feeling. This was my favorite way to start the day.I lazily stretched in bed and grabbed my phone. Waking up the screen, I saw that it's Thursday. Only one more day before I was shipped off to the annual mating ball. This will be my first time attending as my eighteenth birthday coincides with the first day of the ball. Only unmated wolves between eighteen and twenty-nine are permitted to attend. Once a wolf turns thirty it's usually assumed their mate found someone else to mate with or they're dead. Most unmated wolves don't make it that far though. The majority of the mating ball attendees are between eighteen and twenty-three. After twenty-three the pull to mate is so strong that most wolves find someone convenient and passable to be their chosen mate.
FINDING HER WAY CHAPTER 2
After entering my room, I kicked off my shoes and looked around the familiar sight that has been my room for as long as I can remember. It's nothing special but I've put my own style on it over the years. I have a large bed and all the furniture in my room is a darker color. There's a nice sized closet with all my clothes and an en suite bathroom as well. I prefer function over having anything too fancy. My room is the only sanctuary I have indoors and I want it to be soothing, not overwhelming. I have a few sparse decorations, pictures of my family and friends and some posters I collected when I was younger to keep me focused on my goals.Lucy's room is next door of course. I can distinctly hear her snoring through the wall. She is not the same early riser that I am. I'll have to go wake her up soon. As we drive off the pack territory towards our school I see Lucy tense a little. I can tell she's getting nervous and I assume it has something to do with the ball tomorrow."Whatcha thinkin' about, Lucy?"She sighs but doesn't take her eyes off the road. "I don't want to lose you Amoret. What if we find our mates tomorrow and we never see each other again? I can't live without my best friend. You're my sister."I hadn't really thought that far into it. I didn't have much faith in finding my mate my first year at the ball. It took many wolves a few tries before finding the other half of their soul. Only one of my three older brothers found his mate on the first try and that's because they were the same age. As I arrived at the training grounds my eyes lit up. My dad was finishing up a session with our top warriors. He's a tall, burly man with dark brown hair and even darker eyes. He exudes confidence and raw power. It doesn't take much for him to get the respect he deserves from his warriors. He's nothing but a big teddy bear to me though. I hadn't been able to train with him for a few weeks since he's been busy with some strategic planning for our Alpha. I've missed him so much.I headed into the locker rooms so I could get ready for my session. I swapped my jean shorts for some spandex and I threw on a sports bra. There's no need for a lot of clothing while training. Extra fabric can only hold you back. I placed my sandals in my bag and traded them for running shoes. Lastly, I pulled my hair into a high ponytail and looked in the mirror. This was when I most felt like myself. As I was sitting there staring blankly at the map for the umpteenth time, I heard someone walking in my direction. I looked around and found the perfect tree to get my vantage point from. As the warrior came into view, I noticed it was the same one from before. He walked to the stream, abruptly turned around, and went back the way he came from.It almost seemed like he was following a specific path. My gut was telling me this was deliberate. Is it possible the random lines on the map weren't so random? Could they be the paths set up by my father for the warriors to follow? If so, I would only need to figure out exactly where I am on the map and I could easily avoid them.Once the warrior had left, I decided to follow his path in order to get an idea of which line could be his. I followed him for a couple hundred feet and then he made an abrupt right turn at a stump. Amoret's POVI spent the rest of the day with my dad talking strategy and reminiscing. We talked about mom and how much we missed her. We also went over that new move that Ezra taught me. Dad still hadn't gotten over the fact that his right hand man and best friend went behind his back on that one.After a late dinner of pizza and junk food followed by enormous ice cream sundaes, I decided to call it a night.
