LOGINCaspian's POV
A violent surge rippled through the forest, sharp and unmistakable, cutting through the wind and trees. Ancient magic, untamed, the kind that bent the air and called on things mortals would never dare imagine. I was already moving before the echo finished forming. The trees blurred as I crossed the distance, vamp speeding through the dense foliage. By the time I reached the clearing, the spells' after math was still lingering in the air, potent and powerful, salt scattered with sand, and a broken bowl of water mixed with blood. I halted at the tree line, someone else was here. A woman in a green cloak stood at the edge of the clearing, her presence woven tightly with forest magic. Beside her, no... Before her, was a massive crouched low, it's body was still radiating violence. The creatures eyes were not feral, they were... Intelligent... Werewolf.... The wolf shifted, bones cracking and flesh folding inward as the beast reshaped itself into a man, tall, broad and dark haired, lifting the unconscious girl into his arm with careful precision. Lyra Even unconscious she radiated power, wild, bright and dangerous. Her auburn hair glistening in the moonlight. She was.... Mine. The woman muttered something urgent, the man nodded once, then they were gone, vanishing into the forest like they were never there in the first place. I waited. Only when their presence was gone, did I step out of the shadow. The clearing felt hollow without her. I walked to the center where the spell had ruptured, my boots crushing broken twigs and damp soil. My gaze lingered on the blood pooled near the shattered bowl, witches blood, potent and alive even after being spilled. “Remarkable” I mummured. At my side, my subordinate emerged silently. Lucien... A blood mage, old enough to know better, loyal enough to survive. His eyes glinted crimson as he knelt, pressing his palm to the earth, the blood responded instantly, lifting from the soil line smoke pulled backwards,.flowing like a thin living ribbon as he guided it to the ring on my finger. The moment I felt it, power surged through me, heat, strength, a violent surge of powerful energy. I lifted the ring to my nose and inhaled slowly, my black orbs turned crimson immediately. The taste was unlike anything I had before, not just blood but.... Something ancient, divine, untouched. “Her blood... “ lucien said quietly, awe in his voice, “... Could elevate you beyond the ancient” his words holding a deeper meaning. I turned my head, just enough for him to see my expression clearly. “No” I said calmly, with a tone of finality. Lucien stiffened, “My lord—” “You will not touch her... “ I said evenly, “.... You will not hunt her, and you will not think... Of claiming her power... “ My gaze locked onto his, “... Anything concerning the girl is mine to decide” Lucien bowed his head immediately, “As you command my lord”. The forest then shifted, I scented it, rotting hunger, madness in disguise. *Ferals* Seven of them. “They have smelled it“ lucien mummured. “Yes, they have... “ I replied, “... And more will follow. The first feral lunged from the trees, lucien moved like a blade drawn from its sheath. Blood magic flared as he tore through the first three in seconds, bodies snapping before they could scream. Two more rushed to my side. I stepped forward and caught one by the throat and twisted. The spine cracked with a dull crack as the body fell limply aside. The last feral tried to flee, but I was faster, I appeared before him, eyes glowing red as I seized it's neck and crushed it between my fingers. Silence reclaimed the clearing. I turned around back to the clearing again looking at it, I lifted my hand and closed my eyes, not with force but will, lyra's scent was too potent and attractive, and letting her essence remain would only bring more danger, especially not now that I haven't yet claimed her for myself. Her scent, her blood, the residue of her magic, I scattered it, fracturing the trail, dissolving it into a thousand meaningless echos. No vampire would be able to trace her scent from here, I turned around and watched lucien ignite the bodies of the ferals into flame as a loud shriek echoed through out the forest, the flames consuming the flesh and bones until there was nothing left but ash. “My lord... “ lucien began hesitating, “... What about the.... Girl?“ “Let her stay with her witch friend for now, when I'm ready to move you'll know” “Should I gather the others?“ “Everything isn't violence lucien, that's not what I mean, just get the others to clean the place up and make it... Presentable... “ I smiled, “... We wouldn't want to scare our guest off when she arrives would we?“ “I'll pass the news” lucien said and I nodded in satisfaction. “Good, the sooner the better” I turned around, “And maybe some... Good would be nice, we can't possibly let her starve” “But… we don't have a cook my lord, everyone just… drinks blood” “Then find one, a good one, compel them so they don't remember anything, or freak out, then give them a new identity or something” “As you wish my lord, it will be done” I nodded feeling satisfied, soon enough that girl will belong to me and I'll able to use her powers to strengthen my faction. “Come... ” I said turning around, “... We are done here” The forest turned blurry as we began to vamp speed out of the clearing, the foliage going back in a flurry of flashes and passing scenery. I jumped through the woods and holes as we went up and then through the denser foliage filled with fog before reaching the castle deep inside the forest. I stopped, turning back for a long second before smiling and walking back in through the castle, lucien following behind me.Maria's POVThe last strigoi lunged towards me rentlessly refusing to back down like the rest of the dead strigois. Growling, its claws sliced through the air where I had been a moment ago, it's teeth snapping.“Stay down” I muttered. Green light flared out of my palm as vines shot up from the ground beneath its feet and squeezed its entire form violently as it wrapped around its neck and tightened.Crack...The sound echoed too loudly in the clearing and it's body went still, the flesh scattering.Alexandria was already turning away, walking toward her altar inside the house as if the fight had never happened.I glanced around once more, ensuring there were no lingering threats, then followed.Inside, the air felt… different.Safer but not safe enough.Alexandria placed the vial on her altar with almost reverent care, adjusting a few objects before finally speaking.“This place is compromised” I leaned against the wall and scoffed, “It was only a matter of time”“No it was only a ma
Jasper's POVThe moment Lyra froze I instantly felt something was wrong as my hair stood on ends as I felt something predatory.... That stench... Vampire? I moved before she could say anything else and dragged her out of that place by her wrist never minding the books that fell to the floor.“Jasper—”“Back” I growled out instinctively as my Furs started to burst out along with my claws, growling deeply. Lyra stumbled against me but she didn't fight it, she trusted the reaction and that meant enough had happened this past weeks for her to realize that I wasn't joking. The face smiled as shadows moved between the shelves and the person on the other side leaned forward slightly with amusement on his face.“Woah” he said casually, lifting up his hands in surrender. “Easy there, I mean no harm. Really”Lyra stiffened beside me but I didn't back down either, even if I knew this was a public library and the danger of being exposed was high. The stranger stepped forward more from out of the
Jasper's POVLyra had that look again, where her eyes were distant and her brows pinched together. She had that look all morning while sitting on the edge of the stone bench outside of Alexandria house and flipping through her grimiore and some old looking slightly burnt book and muttering under her breath occasionally. I leaned against the edge of the doorway and watched her with arms crossed watching her quietly muttering to herself again for the thousand time.“She's... Spiraling” I said to no one in particular and Maria glanced up from where she was grinding herbs. “She’s learning Jasper”“Nah” I corrected. “She’s missing context and she hates missing context”As if right on cue, Lyra groaned and dropped her notebook onto her lap “There are gaps” she said, as if continuing a conversation we’d already been having. “Spells don’t just… exist Cus they’re built on belief systems like culture, histories... I need to understand the framework”Maria smiled faintly. “Most witches don’t qu
Caspian's POVAlexandria had definitely sent us out on purpose. She didn't say it outright though, she never does. She simply glanced at the others, waving a dismissive hand and was like:“You lot stay, these two can handle themselves”And those two..Being Lyra and me...The forest was quieter this far east and the trees older, with its large roots curled upwards. Sunlight peered through the canopy of trees. Somewhere distant the sounds of howls echoed but not too close to care about anyway.Lyra walked ahead of me, her boots scrunching against the battered rocks and sticks. Her curly auburn hair whooshing in the slight wind as the sun shone on her sun kissed freckles. She had improved. It was... Noticeable. Her steps were lighter and now more deliberate, she didn't trip on roots anymore. Even her magic, usually an uncontrollable storm now felt more tamed. “You're staring again” she said without staring back. “I'm observing”“Tch... That's just glaring with extra syllables”I sc
Lyra's POV Alexandria believed pain was a teacher, a sick, twisted but slightly nevertheless educating method. “Again, the spell won't work itself you know” I wiped the sweat off my brows and got into position again. I moved down and slammed my palm against the map forest floor as my knees went down with it. Mud splattered across my trouser, the purple sparks on my fingers weakened in light like dying embers as my lungs burned as if I had been running for hours. I inhaled sharply and hard, then again. Then I heard those dreadful words I had been hearing for the past few hours now. “Again” Alexandria repeated, calm as ever. Maria stood a few steps back, arms across her chest tightly with slightly furrowed brows. “Alexandria” she said calmly with a hint of tension in her voice, “She's reaching her limit” Alexandria continued looking at me. “She reached her limit ten minutes ago Maria. This is where the training begins” I bit down in my lower lip to prevent myself from snappin
Caspian's POVTypical...Witch building her home on old magic land, why am I not surprised....After passing the threshold I could immediately feel that vampiric feeling that I had stepped into a powerful abode. But other than that, there was this issue of the house decor.“Geez, what's with you witches and lack of aesthetics?“Alexandria laughed, “I don't have time to be thinking of that for now, I'm more into my latest makings”She playfully cackled. I took a look around the surrounding, altars, dry blood, bones, drying pan and even a grimoire and an ouija board. “Typical” I whispered. Maria and Alexandria were already talking in low voices. I rolled my eyes wondering why they were being all hush hush when I've clearly shown that I wasn't a threat.Richard and Jasper were finding places to sit and Lyra was still observingly taking in the place. I stood at the door still letting the air take in my presence long enough to know I wasn't a threat or prey. Lyra, on the other hand, beg
