Chapter 3

I took my bag and walked towards the door. I stopped my steps when my phone rang. I took it out of my bag and checked it. One of my co-workers called me.

“Yes, Amy. What is it?” I answered the call.

“Angela, Linda told us you quit your job. Is that true?” she asked curiously.

“Hm, I want to find a new job,” I replied.

She sighed. “I think that's best for you. Linda will continue to torture you if you are still working here,” she said in a sad tone.

She was silent for a moment, then she said, “Oh, yes, I know a big company that is looking for a receptionist. You can apply to work there if you want."

I’m enthusiastic to hear that. “Really!” I say. My mind suddenly reminded me of something. “But, Amy. I'm not in college. Will they accept me to work there?” I asked with worry.

“Don't worry. They just need a good look. You are so beautiful. I'm sure they will accept you to work for them,” she replied.

I smiled with relief after hearing her words.

“I'll send you the address now,” she said.

“Thank you, Amy,” I replied gratefully.

No need to wait long. She messaged me. I read it with a smile on my face. I then put my phone in my bag and immediately left my apartment room to go to that place.

I stood still without blinking, looking up at the building in front of me. This skyscraper is so magnificent that it makes me hesitate and afraid to go inside.

I took a deep breath as I mustered up my courage. I then forced my feet to step and walked into the building.

It amazed me to see the inside of this building; It is so luxurious and beautiful. I then walked over nervously and stood in front of the receptionist.

A beautiful girl with short black hair stands up from the chair and gives me a friendly smile. “Good afternoon, miss. May I help you?” she asked politely.

“Good afternoon. I want to ask if this company is looking for a receptionist,” I replied.

“Did Amy send you here?” she asked.

“How did you know that?” I asked back, curious.

She answered my question with just a smile.

“Follow me, I'll take you to our manager,” she said before she took a step. I then followed her from behind.

She took me to a room on this floor and now we were standing facing a middle-aged woman with short blonde hair who was sitting in a chair behind her desk with her eyes fixed on mine. She looks friendly and graceful.

“Ma'am, she is the girl Amy sent here."

“Okay, you can go now."

The girl bowed politely and walked out of the room.

The woman smiled at me. “Please, have a seat,” she said, pointing to the chair in front of her desk.

“Thank you, ma'am,” I replied and sat on the chair.

“Amy has told me about you. You want to apply to work here as a receptionist, right?” she asked into my eyes.

“Yes, ma'am,” I replied politely.

“If you want to work here, then you have to sign our terms. In the first year, you cannot quit your job for any reason unless you die. And we have the right to change your position at any time,” she said with a serious look.

I’m so excited to hear that. I can work here for a year without worrying about getting fired. “Yes, ma'am, I'll sign the terms,” I replied with a cheerful smile.

She smiled at me and took the agreement paper from her desk drawer. "Please, sign this," she said, handing me the paper.

I took it from her hand and read it.

I could hardly believe my eyes when I saw the salary they would pay me. $ 40,000 for a year. I immediately signed the paper without thinking and handed it to him.

She took the paper from my hand. I immediately stood up as she rose from her chair. “Welcome to join our company. I'm Olivia Grace, your manager,” she said, holding out her hand.

I shook her hand. “Thank you so much. I will do my best to work hard,” I said, smiling cheerfully.

She smiled back at me with a friendly smile.

I was so happy I could hear my heart thudding. I could hardly believe what had happened. I feel like I'm having a beautiful dream right now.

I walked towards the exit of this building with a smile. The smile on my face disappeared when I saw Amanda Lee walking with two girls towards me. She was curious when she saw me. I didn't know she worked here.

“What are you doing here?” she asked into my eyes when she and the girls stood facing me.

“I came here to apply for a job and they accepted me to work here as a receptionist,” I replied.

"What!" she said with her eyes wide open. "How did they get you the job? You're not in college. They should hire you as a cleaner, not a receptionist." She then sneered at me.

The girls smiled mockingly at me after hearing what Amanda said.

“Amanda, who is she?” the girl asked.

"She's an orphan. My dad adopted her," Amanda replied, looking at me with disdain. The girls looked at me with the same look as her.

“Let's go, I'm hungry. I'll buy you two lunch."

The girls looked happy after hearing what Amanda said.

“Thank you, Amanda! You are the best friend I have ever had,” the other girl said while hugging her arm.

They all smiled at each other and walked away from me. I then walked out of this building, holding back my sadness and tears.

Amanda has always treated me like this since we were in school. She told everyone about me. She said my mother was a prostitute who didn't want me as her child, so she left me at the orphanage.

In everyone's eyes, she is a beautiful woman with a kind heart. Only I know who she really is. She is an angel with a devil's heart.

******

I woke up early this morning; I didn't want to be late for work on the first day. My apartment is quite far from the office, so it will take time to get there.

I'm now sitting in a chair at my workspace with Eva Miller sitting next to me. She is the girl who met me yesterday.

I looked while touching the receptionist's uniform I was wearing with a smile. It looks pretty, but the skirt is too short for me.

I turned my gaze to Eva. She was busy putting blush on her cheeks and red lipstick on her lips. We both smiled at each other when our eyes met.

She suddenly put the blush and lipstick into her bag in a hurry and immediately stood up politely with her eyes looking straight at the main entrance. I immediately stood up and did what she did.

My heart suddenly beat rapidly when my eyes saw a man wearing a black suit walking in with several men who were on his right, left, and behind him.

Fear gripped me firmly as he smiled devilishly into my eyes. I struggled to calm my rapid heartbeat as they all got into the elevator.

“Oh, my God! Did you see that! Our boss smiled at me. He's never done that before. Oh, God! I'm so die. My heart is about to burst!” Eva said with her cheeks flushed while holding my arm.

“That... That man, is he our boss?” I asked anxiously.

“Yes! he is our boss. His name is Vincent Gray. He is hot and so handsome, right?” she replied, with sparkling eyes.

I tried to smile at her with my pale face. I then sat in my chair, trying to hide my fear from her. I felt my entire body cold and trembling. I kept asking myself how he could be my boss.

I thought I would be happy working here, but I was wrong. I could feel that suffering was waiting for me. My nightmare is just about to begin.
