William and Rosaline climbed down, and this time they took another route.
It brought them out from the other end of the park. This route took them from between the heavily fortified forest area to prevent animal attacks.
This route was between the two closed-off parts of the forest. There was a small natural alcove by one of the smaller streams where they rested.
He thoughtfully asked her to rest and drink some water as he plucked some black plums to eat.
“Thank you!”
Rosaline realized she had thanked him a lot in one day. He seemed very tolerant of everything she said or asked.
‘Is he always this good-tempered?’
“A penny for your thoughts?”
William interrupted her musings for the first time.
She smiled, “Just wondering what to eat for lunch. I’m starving.”
Neither of them knew at this time that he would pull her back from her daydreams countless times in the future, and she would always talk about food when asked.
It would later go on to be one of their private jokes.
They rested for a while, enjoying the plums.
William asked her what she would like to eat, and she indifferently replied, “Whatever!”
For reasons unbeknownst to her, Rosaline wanted to know what he would do with that.
He brought her to a small cafe named Apextro. He had been there years before with a few friends and had liked all the food they had tried. Hence he thought it should be a safe option.
Apextro’s design made the maximum utilization of the limited space without making it cheap.
Both sides of the cafe had glass walls that gave everyone the coveted window seat.
One side was the forest, while the other faced the road.
They had kitchens on both sides. There were four different doors to avoid disturbance as much as possible.
Being an architecture engineer himself, William liked it for the minimalistic design but felt something was wrong.
As soon as Rosaline entered, she began scanning the cafe, subconsciously nodding in appreciation.
But she frowned soon after.
She glanced at William, who was looking at her with interest.
Looking at the expression on each other’s faces, they were both stunned and then surprised.
They sat at a table overlooking the park and spoke at once.
“What is your major?” William asked.
“What did you study?” Rosaline queried.
They were both stunned for a moment before Rosaline giggled.
Different from her usual carefree laughter, it still had William spellbound.
“I got a Ph.D. in Architecture and Software design.”
William snapped out of his daze and asked. “What about you?”
“Masters in Interior Designs and basic Architecture.” Rosaline smiled.
“You are smart.”
“Was it supposed to be a compliment, or are you looking down on my Master’s degree from your double Ph.D.?” Rosaline joked.
William, not expecting a joke, was stunned. He quickly caught up and retorted right away.
“Maybe a little bit of both.”
“Oh really?”
“Of course, I got my double Ph.D. by 20.”
William smirked, making Rosaline pout in mock annoyance.
“I was quite proud of my double Master’s degree before you said that.”
“How mean?” She said, feigning hurt.
William clicked his tongue. “You sure are smart.” “Threw it in my face right away.”
She chuckled. “Hahaha” “You caught on quickly enough.”
William shook his head.“Silly!” “Tell me, what don’t you like here?” Rosaline was surprised that he knew she did not like something there. “What do you mean?”He explained, “In the beginning, you liked it. And then you frowned soon after we entered.”“Aren’t you paying a little too much attention?”“Would you rather I ignore you?”“That’s not what I meant, and you know that.”“You seem to know what I meant pretty well too.”“Why don’t I think so?”“Are you not going to tell?”Rosaline rolled her eyes and explained.“See the plants here - they are all fake and overdone. It’s worse because it’s right outside the forest perimeter.”“The ceiling is decorated like a pub with dim lights and all. It’s not a pub, and the location makes it relatively awkward as most of the customers are likely to be people who have come back from the park. Tired and hungry ones.”“All the ACs are placed on the side of the road. It would be better if it were on the side of the forest as the emissions from AC
Two days later, William messaged Rosaline on WeChat.W: “Hey! How are you doing?”R: “Great! What about you?”W: “I’m fine! Can we meet?” R: “...”W: “Got something important to discuss.”R: “Alright. Where?”W: “The Pavilion. Private Room called Splendours.” R: “Okay. 5 pm?”W: “Sure. Make sure to avoid being seen or recognized.”R: “What do you mean?”W: “Explain in person?”R: “Alright, see ya.”The Pavilion was one of the largest pubs in Apex city.Luxurious and classy, it also exuded a mysterious vibe. The modern architecture, gorgeous interiors, private rooms, dim lights without being shady, gigantic open bar counter, large open dance floor on top of a small-intimate dance floor on the open rooftop, everything was remarkably low-key luxurious. The noble, classy, and mysterious vibe of the Pavilion made it quite a hit in the city despite its exuberant cost. The privacy provided, dozens of security guards patrolling around, and in-house doctors further added to the charm. It h
“You're breathtaking, by the way,” William said. Rosaline had to hide her blush. “Thanks! I guess. You look great too.” “Thanks!” “This place is great. I did not know the private rooms were even more luxurious than the open area downstairs. The view from here is just wow.”William smiled.“I’m glad you like it.”“Of all the buildings I have seen in this city, I find this one the perfect blend of good architecture and interior. The low-key luxurious appearance sets off its high-end style in great contrast. And the security and service are unparalleled in this city.”Rosaline nodded. “I couldn't agree more.”“I remember the first time I came here when I was just about to start college, and my brother had sneaked me in to show me the interior since that was my major. I was frankly blown away and took so many pictures.”“I had used my cousin’s ID since I was still underage. They caught and sent me away before I could satisfy my curiosity.” Rosaline finished with a pout.William smiled
Rosaline cleared her throat and asked.“Anyway, what do you mean by she is stalking you?”William calmed himself and explained. For some reason, he liked explaining things to her.“Well, here’s the thing. I bought a house five years back. I have been trying to restore it and fix all the broken things since I came back.” “...” Rosaline was speechless.‘How is that relevant?’William continued, not noticing her expression.“I’ll take you for a tour one of these days.”“Hey, how about you help me with the interior design? I can hire you as a freelancer. I was going to hire a freelance interior designer anyway.”Rosaline could no longer keep up with his off-track plot. She interrupted him.“Hold on, will you? What are you talking about, anyway?”“Weren’t you going to tell me about being stalked? How did it turn into your house?”William joked at her confusion. “Damn. I was hoping you wouldn’t notice.”“Really?”“Alright. No jokes.”“Get to the point.”He went back to the point.“Well, th
“Alright, let’s lay out some details first,” Rosaline spoke after some time.William nodded, eager to hear her ideas.“I don’t want her to know my address and get to my family. That’s too much of a hassle to handle.”William immediately proposed.“I think we can get you a fake ID. That should solve your problems unless she finds a professional to dig deep.”Rosaline nodded. Talking to him was so easy.“We should also find out what she has been doing all these years, what she studies, what she is good at, who her friends are. We need to have better countermeasures in place.”William had already started to gather it.“On it! I asked Pete to dig something about her. She is likely to find that out. But I also asked someone I know to get all her data and hack her laptop, but not do anything with it. We should have that in a few hours.”Rosaline was curious about Pete and asked.“What’s going on between Pete and her?”William made a face and explained.“She labeled him a cheater based on yo
William asked her what was on her mind instead.“So what exactly are you thinking?”“I have a friend who happens to require restoring grandma's old house. It’s been vacant for the past five years since Grammy passed away.”She added, “I promised to help her with interior design, and we are looking for someone else to help with the restoration work. I guess you can help her with it. Her family owns a hotel close to her Grammy’s house.”“So?” William questioned with mischief in his eyes. “I think you said something about giving her content.” William did not like where her idea was going.“Are you sure about that? It’s most likely to spread out. The pictures were blurry the last time, but that won’t always be the case. We can get you a fake identity, but we can’t change your face. I don’t think that’s worth the risk.”“Don’t worry about that. A clean hand needs no washing. Let Supriya do as she wishes. We’ll collect evidence and sue her all at once.”Rosaline added as an afterthought.
They continued to eat and drink some more amidst the awkwardness with their thoughts all over the place. After a while, Rosaline excused herself to go to the washroom.William took this chance to open the windows and breathe the much-needed fresh air to calm himself down. Rosaline was the first and only person he was attracted to in his entire life.He had never thought about romance or even sex. His best friend, Albert, often teased him that he had a physiological problem or maybe he was asexual. William had never paid attention to it.But Rosaline was driving him insane. When she bit her lips, as she subconsciously tended to do quite often, it took all of his restraint to resist the urge to kiss her and maybe bite those lips until they became red and swollen. He could not take his eyes off her when she walked in today. The tattoo on her fair shoulders was tempting. He wanted to trace them with his tongue. Move up to Rosaline’s slender neck and touch and kiss every inch of her ski
Engrossed in their thoughts, neither commented on how long it had taken Rosaline to visit the washroom. They reverted to the casual conversion and ironed out some more details while waiting for Tessa to join. Some more food and wine later, Tessa made a grand entrance. The Pavillion’s security was top-notch.The waiter got the ID from Tessa, then asked William and Rosaline if they had called the person in the ID.Only after the guest’s approval do they let in the person. When Tessa came in, both William and Tessa were astonished.“WTF, boss! How do you know Rosy?” Tessa inquired of William.“She is the help you called?” William asked Rosaline, ignoring Tessa as he was wont to do. “Damn! Can you be a little more human, boss? I spent so much effort digging on your bitch?”“Interesting!” Rosaline finally said.William had a bad feeling about it. “Babe, who is he?” Rosaline asked Tessa.“Babe?” William frowned, not being the object of the address.“Senior Will, how do you know my Rosy? I
