Chapter 11

Author: Koi Fish
Vance's pupils shook. "I don't..."

"Stop deceiving yourself," Rebecca interrupted. "Some things, once brought into the open, don't look so pretty, and it won't do either of us any favors in terms of face. Divorce really would be better for both of us. Catherine fits your ideal image of Mrs. Bradford far more than I do."

"Rebecca!" Vance cut her off. "Are you still fixated on her? I've explained this countless times already."

"The one who can't move past Catherine isn't me," she said, holding his gaze steadily. "It's you."

He was stunned once more. "Rebecca..."

"We both know the truth, don't we?" She tried to keep her tone calm and measured, making it clear she was approaching this as a serious discussion rather than an emotional outburst. "It's time to put a period at the end of our five years. Let's part ways with dignity and let the grievances of the past fade away."

Vance stared at her for a long moment before finally standing up. "You're overthinking things. In time, you'll s

"Open it yourself." Rebecca stood firm, turning her head away, her back against the wall as she clutched the envelope.Vance sighed, "Your temper has gotten worse lately."But he didn't push her any further, nor did he suspect that she was hiding something from him. He simply went inside. In the end, Nancy opened the package, while Rebecca swiftly hid her scores and retreated to the guest room."Rebecca, we're leaving," Vance called out from outside. She turned around sharply. "Could you respect me a little? Stop springing every decision on me as a last-minute notification?"He came to the guest room door. "Is this really a last-minute thing? Today is your father's birthday."She didn't respond, and he raised an eyebrow. "Or should I go alone?""Wait, I'll change," she said, trying to close the door.Vance blocked it with a hand, his gaze deep and suspicious. "Is it necessary to close the door? Is it because of that dancer kid?""Ridiculous." She slammed the door shut.In th

Rebecca felt utterly helpless. She didn't want to be Mrs. Bradford anymore."What's your obsession with keeping me in this house?" she demanded. "I don't want to be Mrs. Bradford forever. Let Catherine threaten my position. Is that so difficult?" Vance paused, then laughed, dismissing it as another childish tantrum. Without a word, he headed to the master bedroom to take a shower. After that ordeal, Rebecca was covered in sweat. She took another quick shower, changed into a T-shirt, and lay back down. That night, heavy rain fell. The sound of raindrops pattering against the glass window created a soothing white noise effect, and the temperature dropped sharply.Listening to the rain, she drifted off to sleep. The next morning, she woke up naturally. She checked the time, and it was already nine o'clock.Vance was outside talking to Nancy and hadn't gone to the office yet. This wasn't like his workaholic style at all.He gave some instructions and left. Only then did Rebecca ge

Rebecca had no idea what had gotten Vance. From the moment she first knew him, he had always been distant, ethereal, and untouchable. A veil seemed to forever stand between them.Even after they married, he remained the same. But now, he was acting out of character. She stared at his burst-open shirt and the smooth lines of muscle revealed as it fell apart."What do you want?" She cowered, pulling the blanket tightly around herself."What do you think I'm doing?" His gaze held a rare ferocity. "You eat my food and use my things, yet you conspire with others to sabotage me. What do you think I'm going to do?""I didn't," she retorted, then suddenly felt there was no need to explain. But his demeanor suggested that he was using this matter to go berserk. Her eyes widened as he suddenly unbuckled his belt. Clutching the blanket, she scrambled to get off the bed from the other side, but he lunged, pulling her back along with the blanket."Let go of me!" she shouted, but her warnin

Back then, Rebecca's whole heart had been on Vance. She had arranged his meals meticulously, managed the household with care, and strived to provide him with a warm haven.Even if he often returned very late, she hoped that as soon as he stepped through the door, he could rest comfortably.Unfortunately, it seemed he didn't need any of it.That was fine. The one he really loved would worry about him.Rebecca decided to take a shower first, then look up some information about studying abroad before going to bed.But algorithms were truly annoying, always managing to push content one didn't want to see right into view. She opened the app, and sure enough, Catherine's new note jumped to the top of her feed.It was posted just minutes ago, about what had happened that evening. There was a photo of interlocked hands—Vance's hand holding hers. The caption read: [He has always been a tower—proud, spirited, and unyielding, no matter how fierce the storm is. Yet tonight, he endured gri

"Yes," Rebecca replied, unwilling to explain further.Vance took a step forward. The distance between them was so close now that she could see the deep lines around his eyes.At barely 30, he already bore the marks of time."Rebecca," he muttered, gripping her shoulder. The faint scent of his cologne lingered in the air. "Have I ever treated you badly these years?"Exhaustion leaked from the deep furrows in his brow and the dark circles under his eyes. She sighed, "No."She admitted that he had tried, in his own way, to take care of her—food, clothes, shelter, money. He'd been generous to her grandma and family, showering them with wealth. But even all that wasn't enough. It would have been better if he had just given her a large sum of money instead of marrying her."If I haven't wronged you, how could you treat me like this?" he croaked, the rims of his eyes reddening. "How could you join forces with others to hurt me? Isn't what's mine yours? Isn't my business your business?

Catherine's face flushed crimson, aggrieved tears swirling in her eyes. Vance took her hand, and they left.Lauren shot Pascal a glare, blaming him for the drama. Then she turned to Rebecca. "What do you think about this collaboration? We'll go with whatever you say!""Don't worry about me," Rebecca replied with a playful wink. "You guys can decide on your own. I may not be able to run again, but I can fly like a swallow."Lauren breathed a sigh of relief. "Good. We watched that melodramatic performance mainly out of consideration for you. We didn't want to hurt your feelings. Now I'm at ease."The others, who didn't know Rebecca or Vance well, had been hesitant to join in the discussion. Lauren's words eased the tension, and the atmosphere lightened."Alright, let's continue," Lauren said with a smile, signaling everyone to move on.Rebecca spent a pleasant evening with Lauren's group. Everyone was friendly, and they exchanged contact information. That female dancer, Helia Adam
