Chapter 6: Chapter Six: Under Threat!

"What are you doing?"

Looking at the tall figure blocking her way, Elizabeth Forster's brows furrowed tightly.

The man's thin lips curved into a slight smile as he said calmly, "Didn't we agree that you would live with me?"

That was then! This is now!

Elizabeth Forster shook her head firmly. "We're just pretending to be married. There's no need for us to live together. Let me go."

Pete Melville didn't budge an inch.

"If you go back now, people will talk. Do you want everyone to know that we're just pretending, and have your father marry you off to the Lin family again?"

At his words, Elizabeth Forster fell silent.

Not only were the Su and Lin families watching, but there were also countless gossipy eyes from the outside world. If she left now...

The consequences would be unimaginable!

Night had already fallen. Elizabeth Forster looked up at the man who towered over her by a head, feeling lost. "Where am I supposed to sleep tonight?"

"Follow me."

At the end of the second-floor corridor was the master bedroom, clean and tidy, with a large floor-to-ceiling window offering a full view of the garden. The faint scent of men's cologne filled the air.

Seeing the black, white, and gray decor, this must be Pete Melville's room, right?

As she watched Pete Melville walk straight to the bed and lie down, Elizabeth Forster already had her answer.

"Your house is so big; there must be other rooms. I can sleep in one of the guest rooms."

With that, Elizabeth Forster turned to leave.

Suddenly, a cold voice came from behind her: "If you dare to leave, I'll tell everyone that I'm just a shield for you to break off the engagement, and that I have nothing to do with you."

Instantly, Elizabeth Forster felt as if her feet were nailed to the ground, unable to move.

A threat! A blatant threat!

In the quiet of the night, Elizabeth Forster finally gave in to Pete Melville's coercion and lay down on the soft, masculine-scented bed.

There was enough space between them to fit three more people.

Even so, Elizabeth Forster was still stiff, breathing cautiously.

This was the first time in her life she had shared a bed with a man, and it was impossible not to feel nervous!

On the other side, Pete Melville wasn't sleepy either.

When did Elizabeth Forster lose her memory, and what caused it?

These questions filled Pete Melville's mind. No matter how shrewd he was in the cutthroat business world, he couldn't figure it out.

Pete Melville had to admit that when he learned about Elizabeth Forster's memory loss, a part of him softened involuntarily.

Early the next morning, Elizabeth Forster was woken by a ringing phone.

To say she was woken up was an understatement; she hadn't really slept at all.

Hearing the ring, she quickly picked up the phone from the bedside table without even checking the caller ID.

"We heard about what happened yesterday. What exactly is going on?"

The unfamiliar female voice confused Elizabeth Forster. She asked, puzzled, "Did you dial the wrong number? Do we know each other?"

"Is... is this Ah Ling's phone?"

Ah Ling?

Pete Melville?

Elizabeth Forster glanced at the phone in her hand. It was the same brand and model, but...

Compared to her own, this one was clearly newer!

Was this... Pete Melville's phone?

Looking at the man sleeping nearby, Elizabeth Forster, regardless of the situation, reached out and pushed his shoulder. "Hey, wake up. Someone's calling you."

"I know, it's my mother."

The man seemed to have been awake for a while, his eyes open and alert, showing no sign of sleep.

"I'm not fully awake yet. You take it."

After saying this, Pete Melville actually closed his eyes.

She should talk to Auntie? What should she say?

Elizabeth Forster instinctively wanted to hang up, but then thought it wouldn't be polite to hang up on an elder.

With no choice, she put the phone to her ear. "A-Auntie, Pete Melville says he's not fully awake. Is there something you need? I can relay the message to him."

Elizabeth Forster could imagine her face turning red.

The woman on the other end laughed softly.

The more she laughed, the more uneasy Elizabeth Forster felt.

Oh no, Pete Melville's mother must think they did something inappropriate last night. What if she holds her responsible?

After a long while, the laughter stopped, replaced by an indignant tone. "You must be Elizabeth. We heard about what happened at the wedding. Tell me, what's going on? If our son did anything to wrong you, you must let us know, and we'll stand up for you!"

The events of the wedding?

Stand up for her?

There were actually parents who would take their child's side against their own family!

Elizabeth Forster couldn't help but mock herself for her naivety.

Embarrassed, she chuckled awkwardly and hurriedly explained, "Auntie, the truth is..."

Suddenly, a cold glance from the man caught her, full of unspoken threats.

Elizabeth Forster's words stuck in her throat, and she changed her tune nervously. "The truth is, I already explained everything at the wedding. There's nothing hidden. Qin... Pete Melville didn't do anything to me."

Qin's father took the phone, his authoritative voice booming through the speaker. "You little rascal, a lawyer called us early this morning, saying Miss Forster had made a will. Tell me the truth, does your marriage have anything to do with that will!"

Qin's father's voice was so loud that Elizabeth Forster almost dropped the phone.

Pete Melville, who had heard everything, snatched the phone away, giving a bewildered Elizabeth Forster a brief, cold look. "Elizabeth and I, what's mine is hers, and what's hers is mine. There's no need to use a marriage to gain anything. You're overthinking it."

Without giving the other party a chance to respond, Pete Melville abruptly hung up the call.
