Nadia’s POV

I found another private study three days later. I was trying to find a quieter place to read when I wandered upstairs.

The top floor was rarely used. Most of the rooms were locked, and the hallway was almost always empty.

I was about to turn around when I noticed a door at the end of the corridor. It was different from the others. Dark wood and heavy lock.

I tried the handle but It didn’t move. I looked around before pulling a small hairpin from my purse.

I knew I was trespassing,

Nadia’s POVThe door flew open and Lorenzo stood there.Viktor was right behind him with four armed guards, but Lorenzo barely seemed to notice them. His eyes moved across the room, taking in everything.Rebecca was on the floor, clutching her bleeding hand. The knife lay beside her, blood covered the marble. Then his eyes found me. I opened my mouth to explain, but Lorenzo’s attention had already moved past me.He looked at the portrait, or what was left of it. Juliet’s face had been cut apart.Lorenzo stopped breathing. For several seconds, he didn’t move. I watched as color drained from his face as he stared at the ruined painting. “Juliet...”Her name came out quietly. It sounded nothing like the Lorenzo I knew.Rebecca began crying. “Lorenzo!”She crawled toward him, holding out her good hand. “I tried to stop her. I swear I did.”Lorenzo didn’t look at her but Rebecca kept talking. “I saw Nadia with the knife. She said she hated you. She said she wanted to hurt you, and she said

I looked around before pulling a small hairpin from my purse.I knew I was trespassing, and that should have been enough to make me stop, but I didn’t. After a few minutes, the lock gave way.The door opened, the scent of dust and old wood filled the air as I stepped inside. The room was larger than I expected.Bookshelves covered two walls. Old documents were stacked across a desk, and several boxes sat unopened near the window. But none of that caught my attention like the portrait did. A massive painting hung on the wall opposite the door. The exact same picture I had seen that

Nadia's POVRebecca didn’t waste any time. The next morning, I found her in the breakfast room. She was already dressed, her blonde hair neatly styled, a cup of coffee sitting untouched beside her.She looked up when I entered. “Good morning, Nadia.”“Good morning,” I responded and took my usual seat.Rebecca watched me for a moment. “You’ve gotten comfortable here.”I looked at her. “What do you mean?”She smiled. “Nothing bad. I only mean that this house must feel very different from where you came from.”I ignored the comment but she didn’t stop. “Have you ever been to Spain?”“No.”She took a sip. “The Romano family has homes in different countries. Lorenzo grew up around people who understand this life.”She looked at me. “You must have found it difficult.”“I did,” I whispered. Her smile became softer. “That isn’t your fault.”Something about her tone irritated me, she sounded as if she were comforting a child. “I’ve learned.”“I’m sure you have,” she set her cup down.“But ther

Nadia’s POVI didn’t see Rebecca again until dinner. By then, the whole estate seemed to know she was staying.Servants had been moving through the east wing all afternoon, carrying luggage, arranging rooms, and preparing everything she might need. I hadn’t asked anyone about it.I didn’t need to. Rebecca had arrived like she already belonged here.I sat beside Lorenzo at the long dining table while Viktor stood near the far end of the room. Rebecca was seated across from us, looking perfectly comfortable as she picked up her wineglass.“I appreciate you allowing me to stay,” she said.Lorenzo barely looked up from his plate.“You don’t need to thank me,” Lorenzo responded.“I do,” she smiled at him. “After everything that happened in here, I thought you’d refuse.”“Why would I?”Rebecca’s smile widened. “Because of Nadia.”My fingers tightened around my fork and Lorenzo finally looked at her. “What does Nadia have to do with it?”Rebecca gave me a quick glance. “Nothing.”She looked

Nadia’s POV By two o’clock that afternoon, the rain had stopped.A cold mist hung over the estate grounds, and everything outside was still wet from the downpour.I stood on the marble balcony overlooking the front courtyard in a fitted black wool coat over a simple emerald silk dress. My dark hair was pinned into a neat chignon, leaving my neck exposed and the fading mark near my collarbone visible.Viktor stood beside me in his tactical coat. His eyes never stopped moving as hewatched the trees, the driveway, every corner of the grounds. Then three silver Mercedes sedans came speeding around the curved driveway. Water sprayed from beneath their tires as they pulled up beneath the entrance. The guards moved immediately. Within seconds, men had surrounded the vehicles and taken their positions. The rear door of the middle car opened. A footman stepped out first with a large black umbrella, then she stepped out. Rebecca Stanford. I had expected a beautiful woman, I hadn’t expected he

Nadia’s POVMorning light came through the linen curtains and fell across the wooden floor.I stayed on my side beneath the duvet, not quite ready to get up. The moment I moved, though, I felt the soreness between my thighs and lower stomach.I winced and settled back down. Last night came rushing back. I looked at the sheets beneath me and then at the man sleeping beside me.Lorenzo was still asleep. Without his usual suit and the gun that was almost always within reach, he looked less frightening. His hair was messy from sleep, and dark stubble covered his jaw. The bandage around his injured shoulder had shifted during the night, and there was a small spot of blood near the stitches.I slowly lifted my hand toward his face. Before I could touch him, his hand caught my wrist.I jumped in terror. His eyes opened. “Good morning, piccola,” his voice was rough with sleep.“Good morning,” my cheeks heated when his thumb moved over my wrist. His eyes dropped to my lips. “Does it still hur

Nadia’s POV A sharp, agonizing pain pierced my skull as I tried to move, but my limbs wouldn’t respond. Slowly, I forced my eyes open, only to meet pitch darkness. Then realization hit — I was blindfolded, my hands and legs were bound tight, and my mouth was gagged with a piece of clothing. “Mmm

Nadia’s POV My heart hammered frantically against my ribs as I watched Lorenzo walk to my uncle and crouched down in front of him. “I want her. Consider it a repayment of your debt. Also, here is seven million dollars. Do not come for her in future, I’m paying you pretty well for her.” He said a

“Nadia’s POV I walked down the street that led to the Bennetts mansion as the event of earlier today replayed in my head. That man is really a devil. They call him the prince of hell, but they are wrong. He is the devil himself. The way his icy blue eyes stared at me, I could feel the hairs on

Nadia’s POV I stood rooted to the spot, trying to process what I’d just heard. Then I turned to Jaxon, “was he talking to me?” I asked, gesturing at myself with my finger. “He definitely was, Nadia.” he responded. Oh God. “Well, why are you still standing there, Nadia? Go on and get changed!
