Chapter 3 Back At The Mansion

International Finance Center.

After Zayn Guggenheim finished his last video conference of the day, his secretary knocked on the door and entered the room.

"President, you’ve received a call from the mansion. They said you haven’t gone back in a long time, so they would like you to go back for dinner tonight."

Zayn’s hand that was flipping open a file paused in mid-air as he thought about the last time he went back. It was half a month ago.

Since there was no mention of Lindsey Juhl from the mansion, he accepted the invite.

This woman would not be around for long, so there was no longer a need to make a show of it in front of Grandpa.

In the evening, the black Maybach stopped at the entrance of the mansion.

The first thing Zayn saw was Lindsey sitting on the sofa, laughing with his grandfather. He was about to turn around quickly to leave but was stopped by his grandfather.

"Zayn, you’re back! Sit down, let’s talk."

Zayn had no choice, but to obey. He handed over the things he brought to the maid and sat down next to his grandfather.

"You kids...you haven’t visited me in half a month and didn’t even give me a call! Lindsey, you’re still such a sweetheart. I'm a lonely old man and it is so nice of you to come and keep me company."

After the old man spoke, Zayn's piercing glare fell directly onto Lindsey.

Lindsey's heart tightened as she ignored his intense glare and replied, "Don't say that, Grandpa. I love visiting you."

"Since you enjoy it, why not keep him company for these few days," said Zayn. His veiled question did not embarrass her, but Lindsey could infer the true meaning behind his words -- after these few days, she would never have the chance to come to the mansion again.

Lindsey pretended to not understand Zayn's underlying message, looked up, and forced a smile as she said, "Okay."

"Grandpa, didn't you say you’ve got a new vinyl? I’d like to go with Zayn to have a look."

"Yeah, sure! I've already prepared it for you!"

The old man smiled amiably, then turned Zayn and instructed, "Go! Take your wife to the study!"

Zayn glared at the smiling and well-behaved Lindsey. Without a word, he got up and walked upstairs. Lindsey hurriedly followed behind.

The door to the study creaked open and Zayn went into the room first.

The study was dark, so when Lindsey entered the room, she raised her hand to switch on the light.

However, the moment the light was switched on, Zayn slapped it off again. In the darkness, a hand grabbed her arm and threw her across the table!

"Lindsey Juhl! What the hell are you scheming now?"

Zayn ruthlessly grabbed her neck and towered over her as he continued, "You’ve gone through all this trouble to get me to come back through Grandpa and now you’re still using him to pressure me?

Lindsey found it hard to breathe. She tried explaining but she could not make a sound.

Looking at Zayn's face at such close proximity, her heart twisted with the irony of their position-- after two years of marriage, the first time they were so close together was when he wanted to strangle her to death!

"Let me say it one more time. The moment I took on destroying the Juhls, I calculated everything! No one would be able to plead your case for you, not even Grandpa! If you keep pestering me like this, I’ll make sure the Juhls will end up even more miserable!"

After he said this, Zayn let go of her and turned around to leave.

Lindsey powerlessly slid to the ground as tears poured down her face...

How could things turn out like this?

She wanted to see him in hopes that he would listen to her plea. However, she was treated like this before she had a chance to say anything…

No. No matter what, she had to say it tonight, for the sake of her family. Even if that meant doing so would lead them to separate ways!
