Meeting the Swifts

Hannah's POV

Sam came to my house at exactly 9. Nah. Don't get the wrong idea that she's time-bound or something. She is only here because we are going to do the 'detective stuff' you know, we will try to figure out the reality by the Swifts' responses.

We took her car and drove to his house. I informed my mom. She wished me the best of luck as if I'm going on the border!

I didn't really remember his house, but ya I remembered that his house name was Swift's house. I asked around his house because I didn't find any house that I remember.

"Oh, the Swifts Mansion? It's there!" one of the passers-by said. I looked towards it.

Oh. My. God.

Really so much has changed in the last six years. The mansion that stood in front of me was more like a Palace. It was breathtakingly beautiful. I don't know when did the Swifts become so, so rich? Sure Sam was right.

"You said that Ryan Swift wasn't so rich?" Sam asked.

"Sure he wasn't!! Believe me!"

"But not in any senses do I feel like this much worth can be earned in just six years!"

"Huh, you're right, Sam. Something is really fishy"

"About Swifts? You think they are bad?"

"No... I mean maybe. But it's hard to believe that they can do something bad. Maybe they worked hard or something. Because they were really good people when I met them last"

"You know what? There's no point in standing here. Let's go inside!" she said and we went on the door.

I started taking deep breaths. What if Ryan also didn't go to college today!?

Just then Sam rang the doorbell.

"What the fuck Sam!?"

"You were, I don't know, chanting mantras and all! So I thought I should-" The door opened making Sam shut her mouth.

Kayla Swift. His mom.

"Hi... Aunty" I said.

"umm hi? You are?" she said. I think she didn't recognize me.

"I'm Hannah Quinn Aunty! Ryan's childhood friend... If you remember?" I said.

She thought for a minute and then her eyes lit up.

"Oh yeah! Hannah!" she said. I smiled. Then she turned towards Sam.

"And you are..?"

"I'm Samantha Parker Kent. Her friend!"

"Oh hi, Samantha. Hmm come inside?" she said and we went inside. She took us to the main hall and it was really big.

I was taken aback by the beautiful walls and ceilings. Every single thing looks like the most beautiful and expensive thing in its category.

We sat on the sofa. His dad, Matt Swift was nowhere to be seen.

"What will you take? Coffee or tea?" she asked us.

She's still so humble and cute.

"No Aunty! We just want to.. talk about something" I said.

"Oh ok!" she said and sat too. Then I looked at Sam and she closed her eyes in assurance. Then I looked towards Kayla Swift.

"Aunty, actually... Ryan, he has been very cold and different than he used to be. He has changed" I said.

She nodded, understanding.

"So.. Did something happen to change him like that?"I asked.

She looked down and became sad.

"Does he still ignore you?" she asked.

"Still? Means?"

"He has got his memory back, don't you know?"

"What? But.."

"Yes he did got it back," she said.

I was more than shocked and I was greatly astonished. If he did get his memory back then why was he behaving like that!

"W.. When?" I asked.

"Last year, on his birthday. We were going through family pictures. Some of the childhood pictures of him with you were also there, that you gave me. When he saw them, his memory came back"

"And..and then?"

"Then he wanted to go back to this school"

"But that doesn't explain the change in him" I insisted.

"Actually, Hannah, he was hurt that you left him when he needed you"

"But..but that was the need of the time!"

"But he doesn't understand that! He gets stressed whenever he thinks about you!"

"So I really hurt him.."

"He went into depression after his birthday.."

"So... Now I hurt him whenever he sees me?" I asked.

She nodded.

"Oh... Thank you for telling me" I said and at that moment I went out of the house because I didn't want to break down in front of his mom. Sam followed me out.

"Hannah," she said. I was crying. So I was the reason all along?

"Hannah, stop crying!" she said. But I couldn't hear anything. My brain had stopped working. So I was the reason for his sadness? Why the hell did I even come into his life? Why am I in the same school?

"I'm leaving the school," I said to her in a low voice. She looked at me wide-eyed.

"What? Are you out of your-"

"Sam! Listen to me. Please. I am leaving this school now itself"

"No. You want to leave, right? Okay fine. But before that, confront Ryan. Tell him that it's not right. If he remembers everything, he shouldn't be oblivious to you! He should not behave like that!"

"But why? I've hurt him so much!!"

"And about you?" she said in a whisper. "You didn't get hurt when you left him?"

"I did! But that doesn't matter-"

"No! It does matter! You can leave the school, but not before telling him that you were going through the worst after that! Explain your side, Hannah, running is never an option!"

"But will he understand!?"

"Sure he will! And even if he doesn't, at least you will not be in the wrong! Please Hannah"

"Fine. Then tomorrow is the last day of me in that school. Tomorrow I'll confront him and tell him everything, I will tell him how I felt when I left him and I'll explain to him my side. But then I'll leave and you'll not stop me"

"Okay. But that depends on his reaction"

"Sure it does"

"Okay now. Let's go back. And wipe your tears" She said and wiped my tears. "Your eyeliner has all messed up!"

"For your kind information, I don't wear eyeliner!"

"Oh, so it might be your eye shadow.."

"I don't wear that either!"

"Ohhh I got it. Its definitely mascara"

"Am I a slut that I'll just roam around with all that makeup on!"

"Heyy! All these makeup items don't make you a slut!"

"Huuhhhh! Let's go!" I said and then we headed back.

Sure enough, Ryan Swift, tomorrow your new face will be in front of me when I'll remove your mask of oblivion.
