Chapter 1

“This is the agreement you need to sign before becoming the Luna. Sign it. Hurry up! We can arrange the marking ceremony later. Lilith is still waiting for me.”

Alexander tapped his fingers impatiently against the wooden table.

Even at a monumental moment like this, his mind was entirely occupied by Lilith, who was currently suffering through her full moon heat. Only the herbal broth brewed by his own hands could soothe her agonizing pain.

I stared down at the ancient, weathered parchment, a sudden chill seeping through my fingertips.

In my past life, after our parents fell in battle, Lilith and I were adopted by Alexander's family. When the time came, our adoptive parents decided to choose one of us to be Alexander’s Luna.

The entire pack knew I had been infatuated with Alexander since childhood. Yet, Alexander wavered, caught between my sister and me.

Ultimately, Lilith left the pack with a parting sigh, stating that she refused to fight her older sister for him. Left with no other choice, Alexander married me.

But when Lilith finally returned, she had already married the Alpha of the Gale Pack, becoming another man's Luna. From that moment on, she became the untouchable eternal flame—the one that got away—in Alexander's heart.

Consumed by regret and resentment, he eventually crossed the line. He hooked up with Lilith behind my back, and they shamefully, secretly bred pups together.

Meanwhile, I spent my entire life neglected and cast aside, eventually dying of a broken heart.

But in that moment, I merely offered him a calm, placid smile.

“If you're busy, Alexander, go ahead and tend to your matters first. I’ve already signed it.”

Except that time, the name I signed on the parchment wasn't my own. It was Lilith’s.

Taking advantage of his distraction, I immediately submitted the signed agreement to the Elders' Council.

Seeing this, Alexander’s rigid tone softened a fraction.

“Good, Jessica. Now that you’ve signed the agreement, it means you have the Elders’ approval. When the next full moon rises, I will naturally mark you. But from now on, stop letting your jealousy drive you to make things difficult for Lilith. This is my final warning to you.”

I remained silent, completely devoid of any urge to defend myself.

In my past life, I had explained myself countless times. But in his eyes, I was always the green-eyed, petty older sister who could never tolerate his fragile, innocent, and kind-hearted younger sister, Lilith.

Memories of my past life flashed through my mind like a cruel montage.

Even when our marking ceremony was just around the corner, he had insisted on taking Lilith north to clear her mind and watch the northern lights, leaving me behind entirely alone.

On the very day of our marking ceremony, he used border patrols as an excuse to stay out all night. In reality, he was in Lilith's bed.

After Lilith left, his obsession only intensified. Even when I was in agonizing labor giving birth to our child, Alexander never breathed a word or bothered to look at me once.

Back then, I used to comfort myself, thinking that as an Alpha, he simply had endless pack duties to attend to; he wasn't neglecting his Luna on purpose. I blindly refused to believe that the woman he treasured most in his heart had never been me.

It wasn’t until I was on my deathbed that our own son stood by my side like an elegant, detached spectator, murmuring in my ear.

He asked me if I had really never thought that this was my own fault. He told me that I monopolized his father’s love which belonged to his aunt, making all three of us miserable. He asked me why I still refused to dissolve the mate bond with his father, and told me that it was better for everyone if I just let go.

Lying helpless on my sickbed, I had looked at my cold, indifferent husband. He had just stood there in agonizing silence. He remained silent until the moon rose, never uttering a single word in my defense.

At that moment, I finally understood—in the game of love, the one who isn't loved is the one who deserves no sympathy.

Since the Moon Goddess had granted me a second chance at life, I realized there was no reason to retrace my steps and become a stumbling block in their grand romance. There was no reason to waste another lifetime living a mediocre, unloved existence.

No. Never again.

I looked at the Luna Certification Agreement in my hands and secretly penned Lilith’s name into the mate column.

Alexander, since you love her so desperately, I will grant you your wish! Reaching out, I snatched the wolf-fang necklace that symbolized my single status, turned around, and walked away from the sacred altar.

There wasn't a single shred of grief in my heart. Instead, an indescribable sense of liberation washed over me!

My adoptive mother Laura was the first person to notice me.“Jessica, you are back! Quick, come and help reason with Lilith. This child's temper is getting worse and worse.” She pulled my hand, her tone carrying a hint of ingratiation.I smiled. “She is pregnant, so she probably needs more patience from her mate. Don't you think so, Alexander?”That evening, a knock resounded at my door.I opened it to find Alexander standing outside, looking entirely haggard and anxious.“Jessica, let us talk.”I stepped aside to let him enter. He rubbed his hands together, summoning up his courage to speak. “Jessica, the mate I always wanted is you. Actually, I have been waiting for you this entire time.”I could not help but let out a mocking scoff. “Waiting for me? Alexander, do you even believe your own words?”How could he claim to be waiting for me while simultaneously getting Lilith pregnant with his pup?His face flushed crimson, eyes filled with panic. “Jessica, listen to my explana

Over the following days, Alexander remained completely unshakeable, haunting my steps.I was so relentlessly harassed by his persistence that my daily life suffered a massive disruption. To make matters even more headache-inducing, Lilith arrived as well.“Alexander, I beg you, let us go back and dissolve this mate bond relation! Please!” She tugged at the corner of his sleeve, sobbing in fitful gasps. “I do not want things to be like this. I do not want to steal my sister's mate. This... this makes me feel like a horrible person!”Driven by heartache, Alexander pulled her into his embrace, gently patting her back.“Lilith, this is not your fault. We will go back right now. It is my fault for letting you suffer such grievances.”Lilith wept, looking like a delicate pear blossom in the rain. “Jessica, I am truly sorry. I know my past actions caused you to completely misunderstand us this whole time...”The surrounding crowd grew larger and larger, whispering among themselves.I

I stood before the gates of the southern private academy of alchemy, catching a sudden daze as if I had truly gained a new life.During the day, I listened to the old alchemist lecture on elemental smelting. At night, I worked in the tavern. The lifestyle was exhausting, but it brought me peace of mind.A month passed by, and I slowly grew accustomed to this kind of rhythm.Until that evening, when I spotted Alexander standing by the bonfire downstairs.“Jessica! Why did you do this?” He kept his voice very low, yet it failed to conceal his rage. “Why did you change the name on the Luna certification agreement?!”I looked at him coldly. “Because I do not want a mate whose mind is entirely occupied by someone else.”He stared at me in disbelief. “How can you say something like that? You clearly know that my feelings for Lilith are completely different from what I feel for you—”I turned my face away as a wave of nausea washed over my stomach, as if I caught that sickening scent o

On the way to the sacrificial altar, one needed to pass through a stretch of jungle.Alexander suddenly pulled a train ticket out of his pocket and handed it to me, seemingly intentional about avoiding Lilith, who was picking flowers up ahead.I took a glance at it. The destination was indeed the northern ice plains, a place rumored to have the most beautiful northern lights in the world.“See, I have no intention of leaving you behind,” he said. “I will go ahead to get things settled first, and I will be waiting for you there.”Seeing me accept it, Alexander clearly let out a huge sigh of relief.“Do not worry, you are my only mate. I will treat you well in the future. I only look at Lilith as a sister.”The expression on my face softened a fraction. Those words felt as if they traveled across from my past life, carrying the dampness of the tears shed before my death, gently ripples across my heart. But right at that moment, a startled wild boar suddenly charged out from around

Over the next few days, I cleared out some worthless old belongings—keepsakes that had been full of memories in my past life.Looking at them now, they were nothing but cheap garbage.I packed them all up and threw them straight into the trash can.In the afternoon, as I continued packing my bags, Alexander blocked my path.He clutched a few iron coins in his hand and spoke in a stiff voice. “This is the money I am paying you back on Lilith's behalf.”I took the money and nodded.“Thank you.”He stared at me with a complicated gaze, his eyes falling onto the luggage I was packing.“I plan to take Lilith with me to the northern ice plains to watch the northern lights. You do not need to pack your bags. Lilith said... she only wants the two of us to go.”My hands did not stop packing as I gave a nod.He seemed unaccustomed to this attitude of mine, appearing somewhat anxious.“What is wrong with you lately? It is like you became a completely different person. Did you not hear

After signing the agreement, I paid a visit to the merchant camp in the south.I planned to leave this place in ten days.Only after asking for clear directions to the Forgotten Pack did I head back, my mind finally at ease. However, the moment I stepped through the door, Lilith's coquettish voice reached my ears.“Alexander, you should really go back to Jessica's side! If she loses her temper, she will rip my throat out.”“With me here, she wouldn't dare trouble you.”That was Alexander's voice.“I know you will protect me, but I don't want Jessica to be sad either. Alexander, I can handle this alone. Even though it is a full moon, just thinking about you makes me feel much better.”“It is just that sister will become your Luna soon. Will you still be good to me in the future?”“Of course,” Alexander said, his tone firm. “You are my most cherished little lamb. As for Jessica, I believe she has already learned how to be sensible. Unless she wants me to dissolve the mate bond a
