Chapter 1698

Author: Cozy Season
Yvette gazed at Jordan with a soft, loving look, like she saw someone else through him.

"Mrs. Osborne?" Debra called out.

Yvette snapped her out of it, turning back to Debra and Marion. "Sorry, I zoned out. Sit here. I'll grab some snacks."

She headed to the kitchen and rummaged in the fridge.

Debra glanced at Jordan, her mind snagging on Yvette's half-said word. This wasn't the first time Yvette had mistaken Marion for someone else.

"I'm thrilled to have you guys here today," Yvette said, setting out the snacks.

Then she slid a gingerbread cookie in front of Jordan.

Debra stared at the kid-friendly treat, thrown off.

"You never liked sweets as a kid," Yvette said, holding Marion's hand. "So, I kept some unsweetened stuff just for you."

Marion eyed the plain shortbread on his plate. Jordan jumped in, "Aunt Yvette, you got it mixed up. I'm the shortbread guy."

"Oh, you," Yvette laughed. "I know what you like. Didn't you always love my homemade tacos?"

She turned to Debra. "I

Randy spun toward her. "What did you find? You know where Erica is?""Back in Orkgate," Debra said, "Drake once used an underground tunnel to move me to a clothing store. That tunnel wasn't new, probably something the Illuminati built ages ago, like the creepy games at the gala.""Makes sense." Randy's eyes lit up. He shouted to the team, "Go. Look for hidden tunnels or anything like that."The crew spread out, combing the place.Debra started thinking harder. Marion noticed. "What's wrong?""It's still weird," she said, eyeing the setup. "This looks like Enoch's secret hideout. How did Mrs. Osborne find out? And everyone's gone. Your guys said no one left. So, where is everyone? They can't be all members of the Illuminati."Randy chewed over her words, but he didn't care about that now.Debra kept puzzling it out. If they were, then their earlier words were bunk. She just couldn't figure out why that maid had brought up the kidnapping case from 20 years ago. Her head pounded

Erica had a temper, but she was not reckless. There had to be more to it. They just didn't know what yet."I'll get the car," Marion said, standing up and snagging the keys from Jordan.Under the cover of the night, he drove Michael toward the Osborne Mansion.Randy broke the silence. "I didn't mean to...""I know," Marion said coolly. "I wouldn't think you were hiding anything.""I've never been big on fighting," Randy admitted. "Gave up training ages ago. Looking back, I was such an idiot. If I'd been tougher, Erica wouldn't have been taken under my nose."Marion glanced at him in the rearview mirror. "Trust her. She's not an ordinary girl.""Yeah." Randy trailed off.He did trust her. But when danger hit, he still panicked.Soon, the car pulled up at the gate.Marion tapped his earpiece, and a voice came through. "Report. We've been watching 24/7. Nothing weird.""Got it," Marion said, cutting the call. Then he helped Randy out of the car and headed toward the house.T

Erica still felt uneasy. The other night, she had passed out somehow. By the time she woke up, she found herself in this secret room. Then Yvette showed up. "Erica, I know you're a good kid. Hiding you here is the only way I can protect you. I get that you came snooping around, but it's too risky. Enoch is not coming back anytime soon. You will be safe here.""But I can't just hide here," Erica argued. "I've got friends out there. I need to stand with them. Right now, they are probably freaking out over me."She set down the snacks and stood up. Suddenly, the room spun."Mrs. Osborne...""Trust me, honey. This is for your good."...At the Potter Mansion, Randy woke up at dusk.Debra smirked at William, who was lurking by the door. "Your drugs pack a hell of a punch. He slept all day.""To prevent him from waking up too soon, you know," he chuckled nervously, ducking behind the doorframe. He was afraid of Randy's wrath. The man was a beast when he was angry.Randy rubbed hi

"I've got something," Marion said suddenly."What did you find?" Debra asked."Rare gems," Marion replied. "There's a big display case on the first floor."Debra remembered it. They'd seen it the first time they visited the Osborne Mansion, though they hadn't gotten a good look."The stones in there are one-of-a-kind," Marion said. "And I found a hidden passage leading underground.""You went down there?" Jordan asked."Yeah.""What's inside?""A gem corridor."Marion described what he had seen. Glass cases lined the walls, filled with glowing stones. The hallway stretched deep, ending at a door.He hadn't had time to check it out, but apparently, secrets were hidden behind that door."Do you think Erica is inside?""Not sure."It could just be a vault for Enoch's collections, given his obsession with stones.Debra piped up. "Should we wait for Randy to wake up and check it out himself?"They were outsiders, after all. They were in no position to search the house."Let'

"Hold on," Jordan chimed in. "I was the one who got kidnapped. If anyone's gonna tell you, it should be me.""Alright," Debra said, taking a deep breath. "Go ahead."It had been haunting her in her dreams, which felt so real. They couldn't be just simple dreams."We crossed a lot of people back then," he sighed. "People from the Illuminati. Jeffery orchestrated the kidnapping.""I know that part," Debra said. "You got kidnapped. Your parents tried to save you but died in a car crash. And Andrew lost his legs. But what's that got to do with me? Why was I taken too?"Her parents had never mentioned it. She had no memory of it either."I was just a kid," Jordan said. "I didn't know everything. Maybe Jeffery wanted to take down the four families. He grabbed me and threw you in for good measure. It was a heavy blow to the two families."He looked up and continued, "My parents couldn't rescue me, but your parents managed to save you. Marion and I didn't tell you because we figured tho

"I don't know much about that," the maid said. "But that kidnapping case was a huge deal back then. Mrs. Osborne is related to the Potter family, and because of that incident, she lost it. Back then, she was very close to Mr. Andrew Potter. When he got hurt, she couldn't take it. She got sick that same day."Debra tilted her head. "I don't think I've ever seen news about that kidnapping, but you know about it. Does that mean it was big back then?""Oh, absolutely," the maid said. "The Potter family was a big name. When that mess went down, every paper was all over it. I was just a kid, but I remember the headlines. They said bandits kidnapped Mr. Jordan Potter and demanded cash."She paused. "Wait a sec. How do you not know this? Weren't you kidnapped with him back then?""What do you mean?" Debra froze.Marion walked up, and the maid stepped aside. "Mr. Houston.""Why did you come up?" Debra asked."It's time to head back," he said.Debra's mind was still spinning from what th

Debra whipped around at the sound. The maid jumped a little. "Mrs. Houston, what are you doing up here?""I-I'm looking for something Erica left behind," Debra replied."Miss Mathis's stuff?" The maid was puzzled. "I don't think she left anything.""How do you know that?""Well, she didn't stay long that night. I checked the room afterward while cleaning. Nothing was left behind.""You were there that night?""Yeah, I was on duty. The next morning, I saw her room looked untouched, so I just checked a bit. Nothing was left behind. Did you mix something up?""Do you know when she left?""Mr. Randy Osborne asked me the same thing the next day. Honestly, I didn't notice. It wasn't until morning, when he told me to bring her breakfast, that I realized she was gone.""So, you only found out she was missing the next day?"The maid nodded, but Debra frowned."Is Miss Mathis okay? Mr. Randy Osborne seemed pretty worked up that day.""She's fine. We found her. Well, did Mr. Enoch Os

Debra frowned. "Didn't Mr. Osborne ever get a doctor for her?""He did," the maid sighed. "But the doctor said it's just a matter of managing it with medicine. No guarantees that she'd get better or not. It's been over ten years now, and the chance of recovery is slim."Debra went quiet for a moment. From what she'd seen of Yvette's behavior earlier, Debra couldn't shake the feeling that her mental state was tied to when Andrew lost his legs years ago.Marion grabbed her hand and said softly, "Stop overthinking it. We've got bigger fish to fry today."Debra turned back to the maid. "Oh, right. Were you here the night before last when Randy and Erica came back?""I was," the maid replied excitedly. "He brought her back to talk about marriage stuff. Too bad his father wasn't home that day. Otherwise, it'd have been a done deal right."Debra shifted gears. "But it seems like your master isn't too keen on Erica. Your lady, though, likes her. If he doesn't agree, I'm afraid she can't
