SEBASTIAN'S POV

I stared at Lydia in disbelief as I tried to digest what she had just told me. It was audacious of her to refer to the same illegitimate child she had once deceived me into believing was mine as "my boy."

"Wait a minute, did you just say 'our' boy?" I questioned, my brows knitting together and a surge of irritation flashing in my eyes.

She flinched slightly, likely sensing my growing annoyance. "I'm sorry, Seb, but does that really matter right now?" A tear slipped down her eyes. "He's not well, please help me. I don't know what to do. I have no one else to run to."

I suppressed the urge to huff. "What do you mean you don’t know what to do? Haven’t you taken him to a hospital yet? And do I look like a fucking doctor to you?" I shot back, my anger evident. I knew I wasn’t being kind, but she had put me through hell years ago, and I felt she deserved this reaction. The irony of her sobbing over the very son she'd misled me into believing was mine, was starting to get

  • HIS REGRET; Chasing back his rejected ex-wife    098 ~ Rejecting a rejection

~SEBASTIAN~My car rolled to a halt outside the Douglas mansion. It was Monday evening, so you can easily guess the reason I was there. Our wedding was already scheduled for this Saturday, just five days from now. But I didn’t panic when I had received the news from Mother this morning. It was because that was more than enough time for me to figure things out and call off the wedding.Killing the engine of the vehicle, I gave myself one fleet glance in the rearview mirror. Not that I cared about how she would perceive my appearance when she finally joined me, I was simply ensuring I looked as good as ever.My reflection stared back at me; dark hair slicked away from my forehead and eyes as icy as ever.I wasn’t exactly enthusiastic about this date. I was simply honoring this meeting for grandfather’s sake and also because I held a considerable amount of respect for the Douglas family. Aside from that, I certainly wouldn’t be here at this hour of the evening, 8 PM, to be exact.I leane

DAVE~As I exited the boardroom following the conclusion of a successful business meeting, I beckoned my assistant, Walter, to come over."Get me the paperwork Celine mentioned earlier. I want to review it," I said firmly, and he nodded curtly in response."Sure, sir. I'll bring it to your office shortly," he replied before disappearing from view as I strode back to my office.I exhaled, still feeling grateful for the successful outcome of the meeting. We had successfully secured a potential client after showcasing the outstanding services our company could offer should they choose to partner with us. It had been quite a challenge persuading them to agree to our proposal, but in the end, they relented and struck a deal with us. That’s what I called progress.I was pleased to have finally made strides after a month of wallowing in devastation and grief over the loss of Sebastian's dealership. At least now I had someone genuinely invested in my company, without imposing any ultimatums t

"Amelia," I whispered, and she turned to face me."What?" She shrugged, a frown etched on her face as I offered her a disapproving gaze. "She deserves to know the truth." She added."Yeah, but not like this," I whispered, exhaling exasperatedly before turning to Mia.She was staring at the two of us in confusion, her gaze flickering back and forth between us. "Mommy, what did Daddy do?" she asked, her voice tinged with a hint of dread and disbelief. My heart clenched at her innocent demeanor, but I couldn't reveal the truth. She was just five years old and would barely understand."Then how?" Amelia queried, responding to my initial reply.I tilted my head at her, raising my brows. "Stop.""Okay, fine," she replied, lifting her hands in mock surrender and backing away to the counter. "You do you, but just tell her the truth." She added, pouring coffee into a mug.My gaze shifted from her to Mia, and I smiled warmly at her, contemplating a response that would help me escape the interro

~KRISTINE~"It's okay, Kris, it's okay. Please don't cry," Amelia said softly, wrapping her arms around me as I lay on her lap, tears rolling down my cheeks. I had just gotten off the phone with Sebastian and the leftover fragment of my broke heart had been shattered completely.Just before, Amelia and I were still discussing the fate of my relationship with Sebastian after I told her what Dave had told me, when I received a call from a strange number. I had my suspicions that it was him, and Amelia agreed, advising me against answering. But I did anyway. My heart screamed for clarification, and I knew the only way to find it was through him. After all, he had been bombarding my DMs with texts, insisting he could explain everything.I gave him that chance by answering the call from an unknown number. Yet, he still couldn't explain anything meaningful. I understood that Amelia had interrupted him most of the time, but still, he could have at least made an effort. He didn't—or perhaps h

  • HIS REGRET; Chasing back his rejected ex-wife    094 ~ Missed opportunity

I was certain she recognized my voice instantly. I knew this because she suddenly fell silent, and the stillness on the other end was deafening. It caused my heart to thump, shoveling and slamming against my ribcage unapologetically. My nerves wavered. And I didn't even intend to turn into a stammer like this. Pulling from my trance, I remained at a loss for words, but I quickly realized that now wasn't the time to be lost in thought. I had to seize this rare opportunity to plead my case to her, to let her know that I never meant any of it, that I had never meant to hurt her. That the chaos swirling around us, threatening to undermine what we had only just begun to rebuild, was completely overwhelming and out of my control. I may have a hand in it, but I wasn’t the sole architect of our turmoil.Everything was spiraling out of my control, but I was determined to fix it. For her. For our child. For our family."Baby," my voice was soft as I clutched the phone to my ear, my heart racin

  • HIS REGRET; Chasing back his rejected ex-wife    093 ~ Life tantrums

I drove downtown, heading toward where Mother lived. My thoughts remained a chaotic mess, but I managed to press on regardless. The encounter with Dahlia still infuriated me, recognizing it was only a compound to my frustration.I was seething as I gripped the steering wheel, navigating the highway, pissed with myself for struggling to cope with the relentless tantrums life was throwing my way. I couldn't help but curse; life was a bitch—did it really have to use the woman I loved as a weapon against my peace and mental health? Cause right now I felt like shit. Everything significant to me was at stake here, most especially my newfound relationship with Kristine. I had just gotten her to accept me back, how could I land myself in another mess within the space of weeks since our reconciliation?!Nonetheless, I pushed aside my tumultuous thoughts and reached for my phone, tucked away in my suit pocket.Glancing between the road and my phone screen, I checked for missed calls from Kristi
