Amelia's doorbell rang.

She hurried to answer it. The conference had been six weeks ago and, in that time, she'd made a new friend. This would be the first time she'd invited Isabel to the monthly girls' night she hosted with her friend Kalia.

They were all programmers and stuck together since there were so few women in the industry. She'd met Isabel in a game, her handle being HockeyGrl, which had intrigued Amelia. She'd never been a big sports fan, but she did like hockey. Maybe that was why she'd initially been drawn to the woman who played the same role-playing game as she did.

In the game, they'd joined forces and defeated some trolls, so Amelia hadn't been hesitant when she wanted to talk off-game.

Her stomach rumbled and she wondered if she ate something odd that day. she didn't think so as she swung open her apartment door. "Hey."

Her stomach had a funny fluttery sensation, but she pushed it away.

Kalia came in for a hug. "Good to see you, but you look a little pale. Are you eating properly?

Amelia laughed. "I'm eating just fine."

"Is our newest member here?"

"Not yet."

Amelia closed the door as Kalia set some bags on the counter. "I brought beer for you. Wine for me. Do we know what Isabel drinks?"

"She said anything."

The doorbell rang again.

Amelia opened the door again to a woman with striking blue eyes. She wore a bright pink hoodie and yoga pants that matched. She hadn't dressed up and Amelia liked her already. "Isabel?"

"That's me."

Isabel waltzed into the apartment as if she owned it, but not in an obnoxious way. Amelia was more amused by her attitude than anything. She made introductions.

"What are you drinking?" Kalia asked.

"What's open?" Isabel asked.

"Whatever you want. We haven't started yet."

Amelia's stomach did a flip and suddenly alcohol didn't seem too appealing.

"Then whatever you drinking is fine," Isabel said. She held up a bag. "I brought some munchies."

"Thanks," Amelia said. "I have some things in the oven ready to come out in a few minutes."

"What are we watching?" Isabel asked when they were settled in Amelia's living room.

The apartment wasn't large, but it did have two bedrooms, one of which she'd made into an office and gaming room.

"Is this your new sofa?" Kalia asked. "I like the leather."

"Thanks," Amelia said.

She pressed her hand to her stomach. She'd taken a glass of wine from Kalia, but hadn't taken a sip. For some reason, it smelled odd to her and didn't sit well with her wonky stomach.

Kalia dug into the chips Isabel had brought. "Tell us about you, Isabel. I know how you two met, but nothing beyond that."

Isabel shrugged. "Not much to tell. I work for my Dad's company. I do the quality control on the games mainly. I did some programming at first, but then I moved into my present job."

"Your Dad has a gaming company?" Kalia asked.

Isabel let the conversation flow around her as the fought to keep her stomach even.

"Yeah," but Isabel didn't elaborate.

She probably didn't want to brag. She liked that about her, too.

"You okay, Amelia?" Kalia asked.

Amelia had needed this girls' night and she didn't want to spoil it. "I'm fine."

She pasted on a smile. Kalia went back to her interview with Isabel who didn't seem to mind.

Amelia tried to follow the conversation, but her stomach wasn't getting any better. "Let's put in the movie. I think you've questioned Isabel enough."

Kalia grabbed the remote and his start. Amelia had seen the movie once before, but it still made her laugh. All of a sudden the room spun. She gasped and when she looked up Kalia and Isabel stared at her. "Sorry. Just had a little vertigo."

"Vertigo? You coming down with something?" Kalia asked.

"I don't think so. No one's been sick around me," Amelia said.

Amelia knew she had to move. She made it to the bathroom before she threw up. That would have been embarrassing. She wiped her mouth as Kalia knocked on the door. "Amelia?"

"I'm okay."

She did feel better. Maybe it was just something she ate. She stood and splashed water on her face. When she opened the bathroom door, Kalia and Isabel stood there wide-eyed.

"I'm okay. I must have eaten something odd," Amelia said.

"You sure that's it?"

"Yes, K. I'm fine."

But then her stomach didn't feel fine again. She was probably going to vomit again. Maybe this girls' night was a bad idea.

"You look pale, but I don't know what you're supposed to look like," Isabel said.

Amelia's mouth went dry. "Maybe I'm not so good."

"Let me go to that drugstore down the road," Kalia said.

"Maybe I should go. You should stay," Isabel said.

She didn't care. All she knew was that she wasn't going to keep much down. She closed the door and knelt in front of the toilet. When she was done, she was spent.

"Let me in, Amelia."

"It's unlocked."

Kalia sat on the edge of the tub. "Something's not right, A."

"I know, but I'm sure it's a passing thing."

She hoped. She didn't like being sick.

"You want water?"

Amelia shook her head. "Great first impression I'm making on our new friend."

"She seems cool."

"She does, and she may never come back again," Amelia said.

The front door opened and then closed. Isabel appeared in the doorway. "I brought some pink stuff and, well, something else."

"What else?" Kalia said.

Amelia hoped it wasn't anything illegal. Isabel pulled out a pregnancy test. Amelia's eyes went wide. "But I haven't had sex in, oh."

She remembered her night at the conference. The guy had worn a condom all three times, but there was no guarantee it hadn't broken.

"Amelia? Could you be pregnant?" Kalia said.

"Uh, yes. I guess. We used protection."

Kalia turned to Isabel. "What made you think of a pregnancy test?"

Isabel shrugged. "I guess I've had a few scares."

"Everyone out. Let me take this test," Amelia said.

They left her alone and she peed on the stick. She thought about Alex and what little she knew about him. Would he want to know if she was pregnant? He hadn't left her a number and she hadn't asked.

She threw open the door when the test finished. "I'm pregnant, and the only thing I know about the father is his first name."

Amelia slept through the night and the next morning Alex was up and dressed before her. She felt bad since it was supposed to be their second night as a married couple. She'd fallen asleep before he left his shower. "You didn't wake me," Amelia said, stretching."No. You needed your sleep. But we need to go somewhere now. You can sleep more later," he said. There was a twinkle in his eye. He hadn't mentioned a surprise again, but maybe this was it. Was it another spa day? She liked the first one, but still felt guilty. "Where are we going?""You'll see. I've packed for you. I hope that was okay.""I guess. Since I don't know what weather we're packing for then I guess I'm glad you did."Amelia rose and got ready for her day, even if she didn't know what was happening. She trusted Alex and he'd been more attentive than usual since the warehouse. Did he feel guilty? He hadn't done anything to inspire the Agostinos' actions. She had done more to poke that bear. At least she was able to

  • Hacker for the Billionaire Tech Daddy   Chapter 49: What Money Can Bring

The advantage of having money is that you have resources. If you can pay for them, they will be at your beck and call, whether human or object. Add in the fact, that the person in danger had worked briefly for the government which Alex had only just found out and the response was deafening. That was how Alex came to stand outside Agostino's warehouse with federal agents waiting for the signal that it was safe. Henrik, Erik, and Fred had joined Alex. They doubted the federals would need their muscle, but he appreciated their presence anyway. His heart hammered in his chest and he longed for one hour alone with Papa Agostino if he hurt any hairs on Amelia's head. The radios on the agents' belts chattered quietly. It wasn't a calming noise, and Alex wondered if it alerted anyone inside the warehouse to their presence. He'd assumed a surprise attack would be best, but this wasn't a hockey game. This was dangerous and Amelia would be in the line of fire."She'll be fine," Erik said. "The

When Amelia left the spa she was rejuvenated and ready to see her new husband. After spending hours in bed and taking a long nap, Amelia was tired but mostly refreshed. She woke up to an empty bed. She wasn't worried because she doubted that Alex had gone far. She showered, dressed, and found him in his office. She watched from the doorway as he huddled over his computer. His office was large, but his size made it look small. She couldn't help smiling at the turn her life had taken. Alex looked up at her and smiled. "Hey.""Hey.""You feeling okay?""I'm feeling pretty wonderful," she said. And she was. She finally felt as if she belonged somewhere. Alex motioned her into his office. She walked over and straddled his lap, his arms wrapping around her. "I'm feeling pretty wonderful myself."Even sitting on his lap, he was taller than her. She leaned in and kissed him, the feeling of it curling her toes. How had she landed such a great man? She hadn't even been looking, but here he

  • Hacker for the Billionaire Tech Daddy   Chapter 47: Spa Day

Amelia stared at the imposing doors that must have been made of gold. They were shiny and Amelia was afraid if she touched them, she'd leave a mark. Kalia and Isabel flanked her. She felt power in their presence. Amelia had never been to a spa and she hadn't been willing to blaze this trail alone. Alex had agreed to pay for Kalia, too, and when Isabel heard, she invited herself. Amelia was actually glad because Isabel had been to spas her whole life. She would save Amelia from making a faux pas if that was possible at a spa. She'd assumed that spas were places only rich people went and she wasn't one of those. Even with marrying Alex, she didn't think of his money as hers."They are just doors, Amelia."Amelia glanced back at Isabel who stood there flashing a reassuring smile. Kalia nodded as if she was on Team Isabel. Amelia took a deep breath then let it out. "But they are huge.""They aren't as heavy as they look," she said. Amelia looked back at Kalia who shrugged. She wasn't a

Alex had finally convinced Amelia to marry him and he was happier than he'd expected. It would be a simple ceremony at the courthouse. He'd offered her grander things, but she had turned them down. Maybe it was what he liked most about Amelia. She was low maintenance."You look handsome, Daddy," Isabel said from his bedroom door. He thanked the stars that Isabel had been happy when they'd told her they were getting married. "Does this tie look okay with this suit?" Alex asked. Isabel laughed. "It has been years since you asked me that. Yes. It looks nice. Are you nervous?"He shrugged. The fiasco with the Agostinos still weighed on his mind. He'd visited Papa Agostino and asked for him to back off. He hadn't left with any assurances, but he hoped they understood each other. He was never marrying Tory and Amelia was to be left alone. "A little. Is that odd?""Were you nervous when you married my mother?""I was so amazed that your mother was actually going to walk down that aisle. I

  • Hacker for the Billionaire Tech Daddy   Chapter 45: Amelia Goes Home

Amelia stared at the mansion knowing she only had a few minutes before someone would open the door. Someone on Alex's security team or Benedict would know that she'd driven in the front gate. Been driven in since she'd caught an Uber. She could have stayed with Kalia, but what would be the point? She belonged here. Even if Alex didn't love her, she felt something for him. Her moment of solace was gone when the front door opened and Benedict stood there. "Miss Cooper. Welcome home."There's that word again. She did feel a certain amount of peace being here. Was that what home meant? "Hello, Benedict."Before she could ask if Alex was home, he appeared in the foyer. Without hesitation, he stepped out onto the stoop and engulfed her in his arms. It wasn't the homecoming she expected. "I missed you and I'm pretty pissed at you," he said on the top of her head. Okay. That was fair. She had ditched the driver, while she was in danger. "I'm sorry."He let her go and Amelia glanced at Ben
