“A DEMON SHOWED UP”

IVA stared at the beast with a demeaning expression before breaking “You could at least tell me your name” she spat arching her brows. “That or you are just getting the chips”

Out of nowhere, the bird bounced off the seat, and erupting from its belly was an ear-splitting squawk. Iva leaned to the door as it flapped its wings all over the place, gaining awareness of the enclosed space, it ran for the detective in air-gaping speed “Oh God!” she cried as she tried to get the doors open.

“Yi,” the beast said absently, “we don’t have time for this,” he told her as the brown bird went quietly to his arms .“Get the food, and let’s be on our way…” Iva’s words died in her tongue and she swallowed. “…you don’t have much time to get your partner back, he could already be dead”

“What? What are you talking about, where’s Devin” she bared her teeth angrily at him “You knew this and you were quiet the entire time!”. The beast looked away towards the bar and back at her.

“ Don’t misunderstand me, I’m not helping you, especially when you cuffed me!”. He raised his arms to her face, revealing the hand chains. “Also, whether he is alive or not has nothing to do with me” he blinked at her “Complain all you want, just get me my meal and we’d be on our way”.

“We?” she scoffed at him and he giggled his wrist at her gesturing annoyed, he tilted his head at her and she bit off a curse before opening the door of the vehicle and hopping off.

She stormed out of the Jeep and walked across the streets. She stepped into the bar, the door swinging more alarming than she wanted, everyone turned to gaze at the newcomer. Blinking innocently, she walked down the few flights of stairs and headed for the bar table, although she was sure everyone had resumed what they were doing and ignored the insignificant being passing through, she felt she had eyes on her which only made her conscious of her surroundings, this was the first town after the forest, ‘does anyone here know anything relating to last night’s murder?’ She wondered.

She was now facing the bartender, a tall slender female ginger, she had long silk braids and bangs covering her forehead. She was slapping at her gum and sizing the detective. Her green eyes squinted at Iva before leaning back “What can I get ya?” she looked like she was in her late 20s, her nose red, and her left cheek purple, she was in a fight recently.

“A martini and two burgers” she declared and looked over to the sign beside the bar table “I’d like the burgers to go please” she smiled then hopped on a barstool and turned towards the right, she could feel a hostile glare from a man in the farthest corner of the room. As he met her eyes, he stood up and went for the door. “what was that?” she whispered as he stepped out of the bar.

“Ahh… can you please hurry up with the burgers, thank you”. She smiled as unease crept in, something told her she had to leave the bar and fast. “Ahh can…” she turned over to the door and the blood drained from her face as a large rock came flying for her head, she ducked with instinct and the rock smashed into the bartender’s face and rammed her into the wall alongside a gory spray of blood. “My God!” she whispered speechless as the picture burned into her retina, the bartender dropped dead.

Three bulky men stepped into the bar, the one on the right hurling balls of flame at the people, the one at the right holding rocks and smiling at Iva, both were wearing red overall with nothing distinct to remember by, all your typical goons. The man in the middle regardless was in all black and holding a black sun umbrella while putting on shades. It was too sunny a morning to be clad in black.

She grabbed for her gun and turned immediately pale, The man in the middle smiled removing his glasses and revealing dark eyes with glowing silver rings, the pale-looking guy walked up to her and sniffed at her neck, her arms remained limp at her side. “This is different,” he said, his voice thundering on dead and disembodied. He looked back at his accomplices as he slowly took down his umbrella. “I haven’t seen a human out here before”.

Iva runs to grab a weapon but she didn’t have enough time, the man appears in front and grabs her neck lifting her off the floor. She struggled fruitlessly as he opened his mouth revealing sharp canines. “Where’s the wolf?” he asked as he flung her across the room. Air escaped her lungs from the slam and her eyes bulged. Agony lanced her left arm as she moaned dragging herself to the floor.

She smiled and turned over facing the ceiling “what the hell are you talking about?” she sighed and stared at the vampire from the corner of her eye as he approached her. “I must be losing my mind here” she frowned and forced herself onto her feet.

She threw her fist over to the man but he dodged and grabbed her arm, his knee met the middle of her arm and broke it. She cried in pain and he slammed his feet into her ribs. “ Ahh!” She yelled and falls to the floor in pain.

“ Where is he?” he said, his voice demanding, fear surged into her, she couldn’t defeat him, there was no way she was getting rid of these guys, she wondered if they had anything to do with Devin-Paul’s disappearance, seeing they already knew she was with the wolf. She wasn’t going to tell them about the wolf but didn’t seem to have any control of the situation.

She grabbed a barstool and tried to pull herself up in pain. “Search the area, he couldn’t be far” the vampire ordered as he grabbed her broken arm to pull her up.

“I’m here,” the beast said tonelessly as he closed the bar door.
