May's interview was fast approaching, and the hope of acquiring suitable attire for the accountancy position kept her spirits buoyed. However, life had a cruel twist in store for her. One fateful day, while diligently serving coffee at Joe's Cafe, her boss, Mr. Joe, made an unwelcome advance, which she promptly and resolutely rejected.

Consumed by rage and humiliation, Mr. Joe unleashed a violent slap across her face, accompanied by a barrage of demeaning insults. "I decided to touch you out of the kindness in my heart, and you dare push me away?" he spat, his voice dripping with venomous annoyance. "How dare you?! If you ever try this again, you will be sorry!"

Stunned and humiliated, May fled to the nearest restroom, where she succumbed to a torrent of tears, unable to suppress the pain and anguish that had been building within her. The sting of the slap was nothing compared to the deep wound inflicted upon her dignity and self-worth.

As the day drew to a close, May trudged back home, her heart heavy with a mixture of sorrow, anger, and fear. The incident at Joe's Cafe had shaken her to her core, leaving her questioning her own judgment and safety.

In the quiet of her small apartment, May began to prepare for her upcoming interview. However, as she laid out the clothes she had carefully selected, she found herself wrestling with a profound sense of unease. She couldn't shake the feeling that the borrowed garments and meticulously crafted persona were nothing more than a facade, a desperate attempt to conform to societal expectations.

In a moment of clarity, May made a bold decision. She resolved to wear the clothes she had purchased with her own hard-earned money, regardless of how they might be perceived. She would no longer allow her appearance to define her or dictate her worth. Instead, she would embrace her true self, flaws and all, and let her skills and qualifications speak for themselves.

The next morning, May set out for her interview, her heart pounding with a mixture of trepidation and defiance. As she walked into the waiting room, she couldn't shake the feeling that she had made a terrible mistake by choosing to wear her own garments.

Her eyes scanned the room, taking in the other women who were vying for the same position. They were all impeccably dressed in tight, short gowns that accentuated their figures, as if the clothes were molded onto their bodies. May glanced down at her own outfit, noting its oversized fit and the way it covered her thoroughly, like a blanket.

A wave of insecurity washed over her, threatening to undermine her resolve. But she quickly reminded herself of her decision, of her commitment to authenticity and self-acceptance. She straightened her shoulders, took a deep breath, and refused to let the judgment of others diminish her confidence.

Soon, May's name was called. To her surprise, she was led into a room with only one interviewer, a man dressed in a neatly tailored suit, exuding an air of luxury and power. He gestured for May to take a seat behind the woman he was currently interviewing.

May watched in stunned silence as the interviewer, without so much as a polite inquiry, dismissed the woman for dressing inappropriately. A knot of anxiety tightened in her stomach as she realized that she might face the same fate.

Turning his attention to May, the interviewer ordered her to shut the door and take a seat. "Okay, May," he began, glancing at her resume. "Graduate of State University California, Degree in Financial Accounting, Valedictorian…"

He paused, his eyes slowly scanning May's dress, taking in every detail with a critical gaze. After a moment of tense silence, he delivered his verdict. "I am so sorry, you're not cut out for the position," he said, his words laced with disappointment and finality.

May's heart sank, and a wave of despair washed over her. "I knew this would happen," she thought to herself, her hopes and dreams crumbling before her eyes.

But then, to her astonishment, the interviewer continued, "But out of the kindness in my heart, I'll make an exception. I will not be employing you as the Finance Manager, but as my Personal Assistant, okay?!" His tone was chatty yet calm, leaving May both bewildered and apprehensive. "Alright, first order of business, make me a cup of coffee."

May knew in her heart that this was a test, a way for the interviewer to gauge her skills and assess her willingness to comply. Having already lost one opportunity, she couldn't afford to lose another. Drawing upon all the expertise she had gained at Joe's Cafe, she prepared a cup of coffee with meticulous care, paying attention to every detail, from the grind of the beans to the temperature of the water.

Within minutes, the aroma of freshly brewed coffee wafted through the room, filling the air with its rich, inviting scent. The interviewer took a sip, his eyes widening in surprise and delight.

"Wow," he uttered gently, a hint of genuine admiration in his voice. "You made this?"

With a steeply refreshing tone, he extended his hand and said, "My name is James Lilion. Congratulations, you're HIRED!"

The words, which May had never dared to hope she would hear, echoed in the room, filling her with a sense of disbelief and elation. Against all odds, she had secured a job, not as the Finance Manager she had dreamed of becoming, but as the Personal Assistant to a powerful and influential man.

As she accepted James Lilion's hand, May couldn't help but wonder what the future held. She knew that working as his Personal Assistant would be challenging, demanding, and perhaps even morally ambiguous. But she also knew that it was an opportunity, a chance to prove herself, to learn and grow, and to ultimately achieve her dreams, even if it meant taking a different path than she had initially envisioned.

With a newfound sense of determination, May resolved to embrace the challenges that lay ahead, to work hard, to stay true to her values, and to never let anyone, not even James Lilion, diminish her worth or compromise her integrity.
