Keon got the same message from Eric Ltd at midnight. By 9:00 AM, he was in front of the mirror, buttoning his shirt and wincing every time he lifted his arm. His whole body ached, but he couldn't skip this meeting.

He had just grabbed his suitcase when his door slammed open. Kimberly rushed in, fear and concern written all over her face.

“Are you okay?” She was already scanning him, hands hovering like she wanted to touch but didn't know where it would hurt.

“Y..e..s,” Keon replied, his voice

“I think you’ve been mistaken, Keon. I don't think Joan works with Langley Corp.”“Then what is she doing at Eric Ltd?” Keon's voice was sharp, cutting through the room and making Kimberly flinch. “The proposal…it's her style of writing.” “Anyone could write like her, Keon.” Kimberly rose to her feet, meeting his intensity with hers. Then she took a deep breath, reached out and took his hands in hers, forcing his eyes to meet hers. “The sooner you get Joan out of your mind, the better it will be for you.”Keon exhaled, his voice lowered, thick with emotions. “But the company...I need Joan for the company work, nothing more.” Kimberly let out a quiet breath and gently released his hands. She had spent most of her time trying to fill the space Joan left behind, proving herself in every meeting. But still, nothing had changed. Joan had that kind of grace that none of them could understand or replicate. Since Joan had left the company, clients questioned their decisions, and doubted t

Tristan set the book he was reading down on the table as his phone vibrated with a message from Joan. “Thank you for today, Tristan. It means a lot to me. Thanks for making me a priority.” He read the message twice, and a small, rare smile curled at the corners of his mouth. Realizing what he was doing, he smoothed his expression quickly as if someone was watching. Although he was reluctant to accept it, he felt a profound sense of relief and satisfaction that he had been able to help Joan that morning. Since the day she had told him she was busy, too busy for him, he had quietly hired someone to keep an eye on her situation. The moment a word came back about Nolan's plans, he had taken action without hesitation. His eyes drifted back to Joan's message and once again, a faint smile touched his face. The door to his study opened without a knock, and one of the two only people allowed to enter his study stepped inside. The other person, of course, was his father. “You’re smiling

Joan burst out of the elevator, her pace sharp as she dashed out of the company. Her phone kept buzzing repeatedly in her hand, but she kept ignoring it. The people around glanced in her direction with side-eyes, clearly wondering why she was practically sprinting toward the garage. She let out a heavy exhale as she finally spotted her car and quickly slid into the backseat.“To the company,” she instructed the chauffeur, her voice firm even though her breath was still coming too fast.Without a single question, the chauffeur started the engine and drove off. She finally answered her ringing phone, her nostrils flaring slightly as she lifted it to her ear. “Ivy, I’m on my way. Can you buy me ten…twenty minutes?” “I'm trying,” Ivy's voice was tight, sending a jolt of fear straight down Joan's spine. “Nolan is starting the emergency meeting in less than ten minutes and….the entire board is already here, except you. I don't know how he was able to get them all here on such short no

Kimberly exhaled, forcing herself to calm down. “Sarah’s friend said you were beaten by Langley's bodyguards last night. Do you have beef with any of the Langleys?” Keon put a hand on her shoulder. His voice was gentle. “I crossed my line,” He went on to explain what had happened. By the time he finished, Kimberly was furious. “When are you going to stop searching for her?” Her face crumpled into a frown. “When my company can run without her.”“It can,” Kimberly snapped. “I'm here to h

None of the lounge's security could stop the Langley men from beating Keon down. He fought back at first, but his strength drained fast under their weight. When he couldn't take it any longer, his pride finally gave out.“Stop, please,” he gasped, one hand raised in surrender, the other braced against the floor. “I'm sorry. I didn't mean to look into your proposal or harass your staff.”The men exchanged a knowing look and stopped, but didn't move. They remained standing over him.One of them pulled out his phone and dialed. It was answered before the second ring finished.“He's pleading,” the man said, voice flat. “Already remorseful, ma.”A woman's voice came through, firm and unhurried. “Let him be.”Keon's head snapped up despite the pain screaming through his side. That voice sounded familiar. He almost said her name out loud, but quickly cautioned himself and swallowed it back down. Maybe exhaustion made everything...voices and all, circle back to Joan. He settled on that tho

Keon's heart started pounding, fast and heavy against his ribs as he read the proposal. He read it again and again and with every line, the sound of Joan's voice rang in his ear. With trembling fingers, he dropped the folder on the table and leaned back into the chair. He closed his eyes for a few seconds, trying to calm his racing hearts. ‘Joan left my company to work for Langley Corp. How did she even get employed there? She has no connection.’ His mind raced. He let out a long breath and lifted his hand, signalling to the server to come. Just when the server arrived at his table, Anna came running in, her eyes scanning the table until they landed on the folder. Before Keon could react, Anna lunged forward and snatched the folder. She was about to run out when Keon grabbed her wrist, pulling her back.“Let go of me,” her breath was shaking as she spoke. The scene had already drawn the attention of everyone in the lounge. People turned to them, watching with keen interest. “Yo
