“Don’t you dare die on me!”

Aria pressed both hands against Daniel Bennett’s wound, but the blood kept slipping between her fingers.

“Someone call an ambulance!” she screamed.

Julian was already on the phone with emergency services. Nathaniel knelt beside Daniel, pressing his jacket against the wound while Aria fought to keep her hands steady.

Daniel’s eyes fluttered.

“Your sister…” he whispered.

“Please, Daniel. Save your strength.” Aria leaned closer, tears running down her cheeks. “Tell me w

  • His Wife, His weakness   Chapter 25: The Brother Who Pulled the Trigger

The man Aria had loved first stood over Alexander Sterling's bleeding body, a gun in his hand, and called her his little sister. For several seconds, Aria couldn't move. The gunshot still echoed inside the chapel. Victoria was screaming. Alexander lay on the floor, one hand pressed against his shoulder, while Nathaniel stood above him with blood running down his fingers.Aria stared at Nathaniel.“No.”His eyes met hers.“Aria—”“No!” She stumbled backward, shaking her head. “You don't get to call me that. You don't get to shoot someone and then tell me we're family!”Nathaniel lowered the gun slightly.“I didn't come here to hurt you.”“You just shot Alexander!”“He was reaching for his weapon.”“You could have warned him!”“He would have shot me first.”Alexander groaned on the floor.Aria rushed toward him before she could think better of it. She dropped to her knees and pressed her hand against his shoulder wound.“Stay still.”Alexander stared at her, pain twisting his face.“Don

  • His Wife, His weakness   Chapter 24: The Son Buried in My Past

“Nathaniel is your son.”Alexander's words shattered the silence in the chapel.Aria stared at him, unable to breathe.Nathaniel.Her childhood sweetheart. The boy who had held her hand when she cried. The young man who had once promised to marry her. The man she had loved before Julian entered her life. The man everyone had told her was her brother. Now Alexander was claiming Nathaniel was her son.“No,” she whispered.Alexander kept his gun pointed toward Victor.“You need to understand what that means.”“Don't tell me what I need to understand!” Aria screamed. “Nathaniel is my age! He can't be my son!”“Not according to the records.”“Then the records are wrong!”“Perhaps.”She looked down at the photograph in her hand. Three newborn babies. Three names. One red bracelet.Julian.Aria.Marcus.And beneath the names, a message claiming that only two children were meant to leave the hospital alive. Her fingers trembled.“Where is Nathaniel?”Alexander's expression hardened.“I don't

“Julian is the third child.”Alexander's words struck Aria harder than the gunshot that had nearly killed the man she loved. She stared at him, waiting for him to laugh, to deny it, to admit that this was another cruel game.He did none of those things.Instead, he looked toward the operating room.“Now you understand why I couldn't let Victor take you.”“No.” Aria shook her head. “I understand that you're lying again.”“Aria—”“You said Julian was Daniel's son. You said three children were born that night. You said Marcus was the third child, and now you're telling me Julian is?”“I said Marcus wasn't the third child.”“Then explain it!”Alexander glanced toward the corridor, where two security officers stood guard.“Not here.”She seized his jacket.“I'm done following you into secret rooms while you feed me pieces of my own life. Tell me the truth right now!”His expression hardened.“Release me.”“Tell me!”A nurse appeared at the operating-room doors.“Mr. Sterling? The patient i

  • His Wife, His weakness   Chapter 22: The Father Behind the Gun

Julian was bleeding in Aria's arms when Alexander Sterling called him son—and the look on Alexander's face told her that the man who had raised Julian was terrified of the truth.“Julian! Open your eyes!”Aria pressed both hands against his chest, trying to stop the blood spreading beneath his shirt. His lips moved, but no sound came out.“Stay with me,” she begged. “You promised me we would face everything together. You don't get to break that promise now!”Julian's fingers weakly closed around her wrist.“Aria…”“I'm here.”His eyes struggled to focus on her face.“Don't… trust…”His grip loosened.“No!” She shook him gently. “Julian, look at me!”Another gunshot rang through the basement.Aria threw herself over Julian as Victor dragged Victoria behind the steel table.Alexander stood in the doorway with his weapon raised. Behind him, two armed men rushed into the room.“Take Victor alive!” Alexander ordered. “Kill anyone who tries to stop you!”Victor fired back. One of Alexander'

  • His Wife, His weakness   Chapter 21: The Father Who Wanted Me Dead

The first thing Aria saw when the elevator doors opened was a man holding a gun—and the second was the photograph of herself as a newborn lying at his feet.“Welcome home, daughter.”The man stood beneath a flickering light in an underground parking garage. He was tall, dressed in a dark suit, and wore black gloves. His face was hidden behind a medical mask, but his eyes were visible.Cold.Familiar.Aria had seen those eyes before. In the photographs Alexander had shown her.In the reflection of the man who had threatened to destroy her life. But this man wasn't Alexander Sterling.“Who are you?” she demanded. He tilted his head.“After eighteen years, that's the first question you ask me?”“You kidnapped me. You threatened to kill me. Don't expect me to call you Father.”His eyes narrowed.“Alexander has taught you to be disrespectful.”“Alexander taught me nothing except how to recognize a liar.”The man struck her across the face.Pain exploded through her cheek. Aria stumbled aga

  • His Wife, His weakness   Chapter 20: The Woman Who Gave Birth to Me

The woman Aria had spent weeks believing was her sister might actually be her mother—and she was the only person who could prove that the man Aria loved wasn't her brother.Aria read the message until the words stopped looking real.ELENA IS YOUR MOTHER.She looked at the photograph again. The woman in the hospital bed had a pale face, dark hair, and a thin scar near her left temple.Elena Sterling. The woman who had once been engaged to Julian. The woman Alexander had raised as his daughter. The woman who had handed Aria the key to the hidden register. Her mother?“No,” Aria whispered.Julian rose unsteadily from his chair.“What is it?”She held out her phone. He read the message, and every trace of color vanished from his face.“This could be another trap.”“Everything is a trap now.”“Aria—”“First, Alexander says Daniel is our father. Then Isabelle's records suggest she gave birth to you. Now someone says Elena is my mother.” She laughed, but the sound was broken. “Who am I suppo
