I walked through the doorway.

I hated that I did it without more of a fight. I hated the way my pulse climbed as I crossed the threshold and heard Riven close the door behind us. The room beyond was larger than the others, dimly lit, with wide windows that showed the city like a scattered field of lights. There was a bed. There was a chair. There was enough open space to make the quiet feel intentional.

Riven stayed near the door for a moment and watched me.

"You are angry," he said.

"I am past angry."

"Good. Anger is clearer than fear. It makes the truth harder to hide."

I turned to face him fully. "You keep talking about truth as if you are the only one allowed to define it. You knew about Elena. You knew about the second document. You knew about the gaps in my memory. And you still let me walk into every one of these nights believing the contract was the main cage."

"It was never the main cage,"he said. "You needed time to see that for yourself."

"And now that I have seen it? What happens?"

Riven walked toward me slowly. The closer he came the harder it became to keep my breathing steady. My body still reacted to him in ways that made me feel exposed. The knowledge of the document and Elena’s long game sat in my chest beside the unwanted heat his presence always pulled from me. The two feelings refused to stay separate.

"Tonight happens," he said. And then we decide what the remaining nights are actually for.

He stopped in front of me. For a moment neither of us spoke. The city lights behind him cast half his face in shadow. I could see the scar on his knuckle again when he lifted his hand and brushed his fingers along my jaw. The touch was light. It still sent a current through me that made my stomach tighten.

"You can keep hating the way you respond to me," he said quietly. "I am not asking you to stop. I am asking you to stop pretending it is only hate."

"I held his gaze. What else would it be?"

That is the question you are here to answer.

He kissed me again. This time there was less patience in it. My back met the wall behind me and his body followed, solid and controlled and far too familiar. The anger in my chest did not disappear. It simply tangled with everything else until I could no longer tell which feeling was strongest. My hands gripped his shoulders hard enough to leave marks. He made a low sound against my mouth that told me he felt it and did not mind.

When he pulled back my lips felt swollen and my thoughts were less ordered than I wanted them to be.

"Clothes off," he said. "Not because the contract demands it. Because I want to see how much of the fight is still in you when there is nothing left to hide behind."

I could have refused. The door was not locked in a way I could not challenge. But the weight of the second document and the image of Theo’s face that morning sat heavy in my mind. I undressed with steady hands and let the clothes fall. Riven watched every movement without speaking. The attention alone made my skin feel too warm.

He walked around me once, slow and deliberate. Then he stopped behind me and rested both hands on my waist. The heat of his palms sank into my skin.

"You are still shaking," he said near my ear.

"I am still furious."

"I know. Use it."

He guided me toward the bed and followed me down. There was no careful build-up this time. When he pushed inside me it was deep and immediate and the sound that left my throat was raw. He held still for a moment, giving me the full weight of him, before he started to move with a rhythm that felt controlled and relentless at the same time.

I tried to keep my eyes on the ceiling. He caught my chin and made me look at him.

"Do not disappear,"he said. Stay here. "Feel all of it."

The pleasure built fast and hard against my will. I hated how easily my body answered him even now, with everything I knew. When the first orgasm hit me it tore through the anger and the fear and left me gasping. Riven watched my face the entire time, as if the sight of me coming undone under him was the only answer he needed for the night.

He did not stop. He kept going until my legs trembled and my voice broke, and when he finally followed it was with a low, rough sound against my neck that vibrated through me. For a long moment we stayed like that, breathing hard, neither of us speaking.

When he eventually pulled out and sat back, the quiet felt different. Less like an ending. More like a pause.

I stared at the ceiling and tried to gather the pieces of myself. The anger was still there. So was the heat. So was the growing certainty that the original contract had become the smallest part of what was happening between us.

Riven stood and picked up my clothes. He set them on the edge of the bed within my reach.

"Night six is finished," he said. You can get dressed.

I sat up slowly. My body felt used and restless at the same time. I reached for my clothes without looking at him.

"Before I leave, I said, answer one thing cleanly. When you told me the nights were not entirely for Elena, what did you mean?"

Riven was quiet for a few seconds. When he spoke his voice was calm but something underneath it felt heavier than usual.

"I meant that Elena is collecting a debt. I am collecting something else. And the two collections are starting to move in different directions."

I looked at him then. "What are you collecting?"

He held my gaze without blinking.

"You will know when the remaining nights force the answer into the open. Until then, go home. Speak carefully to Theo. And do not contact Elena even if she reaches out first. That part is not a request."

He walked me back to the elevator in silence. The ride down felt longer than the ride up. When we reached the street he opened the car door for me but did not immediately close it after I sat down.

"One more thing,"he said. "The second document is real. Elena’s power is real. But documents can be challenged when the right pressure is applied. Remember that when you start feeling like every door is already closed."

Then he shut the door and drove me home through the dark streets while the meaning of his last words sat in my chest beside everything else I had learned, unfinished and dangerous and impossible to ignore.

The building Riven stopped in front of looked ordinary from the street. Too ordinary. A low office structure with darkened windows and a side entrance that required a code. He entered the numbers without hesitation and held the door for me. The hallway inside smelled of dust and old paper. Our footsteps sounded too loud in the quiet.I kept my voice low. "Who is this person?""Someone who used to move money for people who preferred not to leave clean records, Riven said. He also used to work with Hale. That combination makes him useful and unstable in equal measure. Do not trust his manners. Trust the fact that he still owes me something he cannot afford to leave unpaid."We took a narrow staircase to the second floor. Riven knocked once on a plain wooden door. A moment later it opened. The man who stood there was older than Riven, with gray at his temples and the kind of eyes that measured everything in risk. He looked at me first, then at Riven, then back at me again."You brought c

I woke before the sun with the envelope still in the jacket I had thrown over the chair. For a long moment I lay still and listened to the quiet of the apartment, half expecting the decision I had made in that dark lot to feel smaller in daylight. It did not. If anything it felt heavier.Theo was already in the kitchen when I walked in. He watched me pour coffee without speaking. The distance from the night before was still there, but something in his expression had shifted. He looked less like he was waiting for permission and more like he was measuring how much longer he could tolerate the silence."You left again last night," he said."I did.""With him.""Yes."Theo set his cup down carefully. "I keep trying to decide whether you are protecting me or protecting yourself from having to admit how deep this is. I still have not decided."I met his eyes. "Both can be true at the same time."He held my gaze for another second, then nodded once and left for class. The door closed quietl

  • Hundred Nights With Him    Chapter 17 : The Envelope

I sat in the passenger seat with the envelope resting in my lap and the low hum of the engine filling the silence. Riven did not rush me. He simply watched the empty lot through the windshield as if he had all the time in the world. The patience felt deliberate. It always did.I turned the envelope over once without opening it. The paper was thick. Expensive. The kind of detail that made everything feel more calculated."You expect me to trust you with this," I said."I expect you to decide whether the alternative is worse," he replied. "Elena already knows you have been digging. She will not wait much longer before she tightens the pressure on Theo to remind you of your place. Victor Hale is one of the few remaining people who can make her position less clean. That is useful. It is also dangerous. Both things can be true at the same time."I looked at his profile. The scar on his knuckle was visible again under the dashboard light. I still did not know the story behind it. The not kn

  • Hundred Nights With Him    Chapter 16: Different Directions

I sat in the dark kitchen long after Riven dropped me off, still wearing the clothes I had put back on in that quiet room. My body ached in places that felt too intimate to name, but the physical marks were not what kept me awake. It was the sentence he had left me with.Elena is collecting a debt. I am collecting something else.I kept turning the words over, trying to force them into a shape I could use. The idea that Riven might not be fully aligned with Elena should have brought relief. Instead it only created a new kind of unease. A man who admitted he was collecting something from me while still delivering me into her plans was not safer. He was simply harder to predict.Theo’s door opened around two in the morning. He stood in the hallway and looked at me for a long time before he spoke."You did not come home the same," he said."I rarely do anymore."He walked into the kitchen and sat across from me. The low light from the street made his face look younger and older at the sa

I barely slept. Every time I closed my eyes I saw my own signature at the bottom of that document and felt Elena’s hand over mine again. The anger sat in my chest like something alive. By the time morning light pushed through the curtains I was already awake and exhausted at the same time.Theo was in the kitchen when I walked in. He took one look at my face and set his mug down harder than necessary."You look worse than yesterday," he said. "Whatever that man is doing to you is getting heavier. I can see it."I poured coffee I did not want. "Leave it alone, Theo.""I am done leaving it alone. You come home later and later. You flinch when your phone lights up. You look at me like you are measuring how much truth I can carry. I am not fragile. Stop treating me like I will break if you tell me the real shape of this."The frustration in his voice scraped against the raw places already open inside me. I turned on him before I could stop myself."You want the real shape? Fine. Dad left
