Chapter 2

Author: Pineapple Iced Tea
Lisa's words made Michael's anger flare even more. He looked at me with a dark expression.

Seeing that I had no intention of changing my mind, he still kept his voice low as he said, "Sarah, I know you're upset right now, but we can't let all these people see our family become a laughingstock.

"Go back and calm down. I'll explain the situation to them, and Lisa will help complete the ceremony properly for you. Stop making a scene."

He sighed slightly, took my hand, and patted it. "Sarah, you're the woman I want to marry. We're definitely going to get married."

Lisa smoothly linked her arm through Michael's. The corners of her mouth turned up slightly, and there was a mocking glint in her eyes. They continued toasting and thanking the guests as if nothing had happened, as though what had just occurred was merely an insignificant little episode.

I looked around the venue, taking in the wedding scene I had carefully planned, then looked at the groom, who was supposed to join hands with me for life. I lowered my eyes, gently touched my stomach, then turned and left the hall.

My best friend Emma Hartwell spotted me in the hotel garden. Her steps halted abruptly, then she quickly walked to my side and asked, "Why are you out here? Do you need the wedding rings?"

Emma was busy running her own design studio and had a lot on her plate, so I asked her to keep our rings safe for me. She looked at me with worry written all over her face.

I shook my head. "There's no need to bring them. Just come back to my room with me."

On the way back to my room, I told her what had happened. After hearing everything, she turned red with anger and immediately wanted to storm back to the hall to give Michael a piece of her mind.

I stopped her. After all, we had been in love for five years. Even if we were breaking up, I didn't want things to get too ugly.

Emma looked at me with heartbreak in her eyes, cursing angrily, "When Michael proposed to you, he promised he would love and protect you for life and that you'd grow old together.

"But now? He's protecting someone else and letting you suffer instead. He's absolutely worthless!"

A dense, throbbing pain spread through my chest, making me feel so awful I couldn't speak. Five years ago, when my parents were still alive, Michael and I fell in love. Later, he took over the family business and became the company's leader.

He immediately proposed to me, saying, "Sarah, thank you for staying by my side during my difficult times. Will you marry me? I'll definitely give you the best life possible."

That night, I was filled with joy as we held each other tightly. But now, wearing my exquisite wedding dress with his child in my belly, I could only leave our wedding venue on our wedding day. All the while, I carried a heart full of regret.

The sweet, warm memories of our time together kept surfacing in my mind, making my heart ache terribly. But no matter what, I knew in my heart that he and I could never go back to how things used to be.

Tomorrow, I planned to go to the hospital to terminate this pregnancy.

That night, I lay quietly in bed, feeling the faint movements in my belly. I was trying to fall asleep so I could treasure this last night with my child. In my half-asleep state, my slightly swollen legs suddenly felt relieved, as if someone was massaging them.

I struggled to open my drowsy eyes. That's when I saw Michael. He smelled of alcohol, and he was kneeling beside the bed, gently massaging my legs just like he used to.

Seeing that I was awake, he stood up and moved in front of me. He brushed the stray hair from my face and leaned close to my ear to apologize. "Sarah, I'm sorry.

"It's all my fault. I didn't make sure someone watched Danny properly at our wedding today, and that caused such chaos. To prevent those wealthy guests at our wedding from seeing our family become a laughingstock, I even let Lisa complete the ceremony in your place to cover things up.

"I know what I did was wrong... I'm sorry."

I looked at him and couldn't help but laugh. "Mr. Thompson, we've already broken up. Now we're just strangers. I hope you can understand that and stop making things difficult for me."My words cut through him like a blade. He clenched his hands into fists, looking at me with anguish."I was just fulfilling my duty as a brother by taking care of my brother's widow and child. I may not have handled it well, but Lisa and I are completely innocent. We never did anything improper. Why can't you forgive me?"Faced with his emotional outburst, I felt completely unmoved inside. I simply stood there quietly, waiting for him to calm down."Michael, does the absence of improper behavior really cover up those special feelings you have for her in your heart? When you used work as an excuse to reject me but spent time with another woman instead, you had already given up on our relationship.""Can't we start over?" Michael's voice cracked slightly. He was the one who abandoned our relationship

"What are you doing in my room this late?"The table was covered with food. Lisa smiled sweetly, and her voice was gentle. "I heard from Margaret that Sarah left, and you spent the whole day looking for her. You just got back, so you probably haven't eaten yet. I had the chef prepare some food..."Before she could finish, Michael's dark gaze frightened her into silence. His lips curved slightly upward, but his eyes were filled with coldness. "I asked you why you're in my room this late."Lisa had never seen Michael with such a sinister, resentful expression. She was so scared she had to grip the table to steady herself. She forced out a smile, speaking ingratiatingly. "It was late, and you weren't back yet. I was worried about you, so I came over..."At these words, Michael's expression grew even darker. He remembered why I had left. It was because Lisa always found various excuses to get his attention, making him repeatedly ignore my feelings. At first, he really just wanted

"Get out!"Michael angrily pushed Margaret aside and stormed out of the house. He stood at the doorway, full of anxiety, thinking about how he could find me.Suddenly, as if struck by inspiration, he hurried to his car and raced toward the hospital. He remembered my best friend, Emma. She and I had grown up together and were extremely close. After my parents passed away, he and Emma were the two people I trusted most in my heart. He felt that while I might leave him, I couldn't possibly abandon Emma. Not to mention, her mother was sick and receiving treatment at the hospital. He rushed to the hospital and indeed saw Emma packing up her things and preparing to leave. But Emma was not someone who'd easily reveal my whereabouts. He tried both threats and bribes, even promising to bring in the country's best specialists to treat Emma's mother. But Emma remained expressionless as she said, "You're underestimating both me and my mother. Do you think I'd tell you Sarah's location over s

Emma and I planned to go abroad together to open a design studio. Tomorrow, I would be leaving this city where I was born and raised, and where I had lived for over 20 years. I never imagined that my final moments here would be spent in a hospital.Late at night, Michael gently pushed open my hospital room door and walked to my bedside. He looked at my sleeping form, and his eyes were full of guilt. "Sarah, I'm sorry..."I wasn't actually asleep. I slowly opened my eyes. "You don't need to apologize. It's all in the past.""Yes, it's all in the past."Thinking I wasn't angry anymore, he looked at me with delight. "Sarah, I'll treat you better."Just as he was about to continue speaking, I smiled slightly. "Michael, I want to rest. Whatever you want to say, let's talk tomorrow.""I'll stay here and keep you company.""No need. Go back to the company. I want to be alone for a while."He said nothing more. He just quietly looked at me for a long time. Seeing that my expression see

Michael stared blankly at the pool of blood on the floor. His eyes were vacant. Dr. Langford's accusations rang in his ears, but he seemed to have lost his soul. He was standing there like a statue, completely motionless.Dr. Langford's words struck like thunder in his heart. His body was trembling slightly, and his face was filled with undeniable panic."That's impossible! She… She was fine last night, and our child was still there... This can't be! This is our child. How could she..."Dr. Langford worked to save me for three full hours. When I was wheeled out of the operating room, Michael immediately rushed to my bedside. His eyes burned with fury mixed with confusion, and his expression was frighteningly dark."Sarah! How could you bring yourself to do it?""Do what?"I had just been given anesthesia, and my head was still foggy. I couldn't immediately understand what he meant. His eyes were red-rimmed as he stared fixedly at my abdomen. "How could you bear to abort the baby

Michael was instantly furious. "So you're saying she hurt her own child to frame you? You're a mother too. Would you do something like that?"I looked at him, hurling harsh words at me because of another woman, and remained silent for a long time before speaking."I already brought up breaking up last night. What right do you have to boss me around?"Michael frowned, the anger in his eyes burning even fiercer than before."Sarah Mitchell! You're in the wrong here. I didn't do anything wrong, so why should we break up? You're going to handle everything for Lisa and Danny at the hospital today!"If you don't handle it well... I remember your friend Emma runs a studio, right? I'm sure you wouldn't want to see all her hard work go to waste."I stared at him in disbelief. "Are you threatening me?"His voice was low as he replied, "Sarah, it's come to this because you forced my hand. Besides, after your parents died, I've been the one taking care of you."I've invested so much time a
