Synopsis

Tragic Love

Melodramatic

Bias

Mistress

Winning Back the Wife

Cheating

A month before my wedding, I happen to find a shared wedding planning folder on my fiance Tyler Bilson's computer. I just wanted to check if I've missed anything, but instead I find countless comments he and my sister, Winona Shaw, left on it together. Under the champagne roses I picked, Winona leaves a smiling emoji and writes, "Tanya really has great taste." Tyler replies, "But I think red roses would look better. They'd complement your bridesmaid dress." Winona leaves another comment under the scented gift boxes I specifically prepared for the guests. "Tanya really lives up to her reputation as a perfumer. This gift set will definitely make your wedding unforgettable." Tyler replies, "Actually, I think the towel bear you suggested is better. I've already had someone replace all the gift boxes." Then I see Winona's name under the wedding invitation I've revised with the designer five times before approving it. She says, "If only my name were on this wedding invitation as the bride." I stop reading and close the folder. Since you've already planned the wedding for me, I might as well let you have it.

Chapter 1
I stayed on the couch by myself until it got dark.Memories of the three of us over the years kept flashing through my mind.Winona Shaw and I had both been orphans at the same kindergarten. She wasn't in good health, and I had a bad temper, so we were the two kids who never got adopted.Thankfully, we both did well in school, and when we turned 18, we finally got into Cadber College together. And that was where I met Tyler Bilson. At first, I never thought anything could happen between Tyler and me. He was the handsome golden boy everyone looked up to, with a good family and good looks. Even the way he treated people was so gentle and polite that it was hard to find fault with him.So when he came to me with the tips of his ears red and said that he liked me, it didn't feel like a confession at all.I just thought he'd lost a bet and was messing with an ordinary girl like me.Winona was the one who pushed me to him before calling out behind me. "Well, you sure have good taste!

Chapter 2
The tenderness on Tyler's face froze for a moment. Then he slipped back into that familiar expression, as if what I had just said was nothing more than a spoiled child throwing a tantrum. He sighed and reached for my hand, his voice placating. "Winona is your sister. I just want her to feel like she's important at the wedding too. She's been in poor health since she was little, and she's your only family. Isn't it only right that I treat her well?"Tyler paused, then pinched the tip of my nose affectionately. "Since when did you become so petty?"At that moment, I suddenly remembered something from years ago. The first time Winona had an asthma attack, I carried her on my back and ran three miles to the hospital. My knees were all scraped up, but I didn't dare stop. When Tyler found out what had happened, he gently ran his fingers over the scar on my knee and told me that from now on, I wouldn't have to shoulder everything on my own because he would be there. But now, the same per

I spent a few days at my friend's place after that. I didn't go outside once. Most days, I just sat there in a daze, not really knowing what I was doing. Then Tyler texted me with a photo. It was a photo album that belonged to Winona and me, the only thing I'd brought with me from the orphanage. He asked me, "You don't even want this anymore?"I shot up from the bed, rushed outside, hailed a cab, and headed straight home. When I got back to our apartment, Tyler was sitting in the living room. He didn't look too good. There was a shadow of stubble along his jaw, and his hair, usually styled with meticulous care, was a little messy. At the sound of the door opening, he looked up, his eyes lighting up. "I'm glad you're back."It wasn't until Tyler stood up and walked over to me that I noticed his lips were cracked and peeling. He hurried over and opened his arms. "I knew you wouldn't really leave."I stepped aside instead. His arms froze in midair. Without looking at him, I went

The crystal chandelier above me was the one Tyler and I had picked out together. He said the light looked best on my face, so we stood in line for 40 minutes just to bring it home. The light hadn't changed, but Tyler had.I looked into his bloodshot eyes, then at the tiny mole in the corner of his eye and the way his nostrils flared slightly with anger. And suddenly, I remembered that summer when I was 18.Tyler had looked so good, standing under a tree, his ears red, with sunlight slipping through the leaves and falling across his eyelashes.I believed him when he said, "I think so too."And now, he had me pinned against the couch, my wrist in his grip, the phone lying smashed on the floor."Tyler, if this isn't crossing the line, then what is? Do you have to wait until you two end up in the same bed?"Tyler had no response to that.I was tired of arguing, so I tried to wrench myself free from his grip.In the middle of our heated struggle, he finally spoke. "None of this wi

Chapter 5
I stayed at my friend Alicia Sutton's studio out in the suburbs for three days. Calling it a studio was being generous, though. It was just two rooms in an old apartment building that she'd knocked together, with fabric samples she'd designed covering the walls and the smell of steam from the iron always hanging in the air.She set up a folding bed for me by the window. Every night, I'd lie there listening to the cars outside, tossing and turning for a long time before I could finally fall asleep. On the morning of the third day, Alicia opened the window and noticed Tyler's car parked downstairs. "Do you want to see him?"I shook my head.Alicia didn't try to talk me into it or defend him. She just handed me a glass of hot water and said, "Alright, then let's not see him."Tyler didn't leave that night.Alicia later told me that he'd searched almost everywhere in the city he thought I might go. The perfume studio where I'd interned, the library I used to visit all the time in col

Chapter 6
I was at Alicia's studio, working on the third revision of my application formulas, when the person who'd recommended me to the perfume academy called. He was very polite, saying my portfolio showed a lot of potential, and that after more than ten years as a judge in the perfume industry, he rarely came across a young person with as much talent as me.Before our phone call ended, he casually mentioned, "Your fiance really cares about you. He went through several connections just to get to me. I have to show the Bilson family some respect."My hand froze around the phone for a second. "Thank you, but I just want to make sure. Did you contact me because of my work, or because Tyler reached out to you?"There was a brief silence on the other end before he let out a knowing little laugh. "Ms. Shaw, talent and connections are equally important in the industry. Ms. Bilson is doing this for your own good.""I don't need it."After I hung up, I stood by the window for a long time.It wa

After that day, Tyler stopped trying to help me in his own way.Alicia said he hadn't shown up at work once in the past five days. His dad was furious enough to threaten to cut off all his cards, but Tyler still didn't go home.He spent every day downstairs outside Alicia's studio. He never came up or tried to contact me.Sometimes, I could see the top of his head through a gap in the curtains. His hair was always a mess from the wind, and there was dust on his coat.On the evening of the seventh day, it started to rain. I stood by the window and saw Tyler still standing under the streetlight. He didn't have an umbrella, so rainwater ran down his hair, soaking through his expensive coat until it clung to his body. He looked like a stray dog abandoned in the rain. The next morning, Alicia went downstairs to pick up a package. When she came back, she put a plastic bag on the table and said Tyler had asked her to give it to me.Inside was a new photo album, and every page was fille

Not long after, Tyler posted something on his social media. Alicia screenshotted it and sent it to me.It was the shared wedding planning folder. His comments with Winona's were circled in red, and beside them, he'd written, "There is only one bride in this wedding, and her name is Tanya Shaw. As for all the comments in the documents, that was me crossing the line. They had nothing to do with Winona."Below the screenshot was a long string of voice messages from Alicia."The group chat is blowing up.""Even his dad commented about it, saying he was embarrassing."Tyler thought publicly taking my side was some kind of apology. He thought that by taking all the blame and clearing Winona's name, he could prove that in the end, he had chosen me.But I never wanted him to choose me. I wanted him to never have to make that choice in the first place.Alicia heard through a mutual friend that Winona went to see Tyler. She waited downstairs outside Tyler's company for three hours. The

Chapter 9
Another year passed.A small perfume brand in Purley had picked up my graduation project, and it was going into production the following month. The brand's marketing director emailed me, asking if I could write a line in my perfumer's notes. They planned to print it on the inside of the box.I picked up my pen and wrote down the words that had been on my mind for a long time. “When you stop waiting for someone to open the door, you realize it was never locked in the first place.”I tore off the sticky note, stuck it onto the sample bottle, and took a picture to send to Alicia. She replied almost instantly with a whole string of thumbs-up emojis, followed by. "Once it's printed, send me ten boxes. I'm going to line an entire wall with them."In November, a letter from back home arrived in my mailbox. The handwriting on the envelope was Tyler's.Tyler said he'd gone to the apartment one last time the month before, but they'd changed the building's security system, so he couldn't g
