"What do you mean?" asked Caraline in an angry tone. Her appetite for lunch instantly disappeared after hearing Deric's words just now. Her arms reflexively crossed in front of her chest.
"Miss, I know that this scenario is very interesting, especially since the team that prepared this is very professional. I even thought it was a real wedding and I'm very grateful for all this," Deric replied with a smile.
Caraline responded with wide eyes. Her hands immediately dropped from in front of her chest, landing on the table. Just as she was about to interject, Deric spoke first.
"Miss, can we please end this game?" Deric looked down for a moment, then back up at Caraline. "I think this is enough. I'm sure you've gotten some entertainment out of the scenario you've laid out."
"What do you mean?" repeated Caraline. Her hands pounded on the table rather hard. Her eyes sharpened as if she wanted to skin the man in the wheelchair.
Is the handicapped man in front of her making a joke? This is not funny at all. Can't that man see the sacrifices she's made to get to this point? Caraline thought.
"Do you think I'm playing you?" Caraline asked with a face as red as a cherry. The veins of her neck seemed to pop out of her smooth skin. Her fists hardened until the tablecloth shriveled. "Listen to me!"
Deric smiled and it broke Caraline's concentration and her sentence. Therefore, she needed a little time to rearrange the wording. Not wanting her concentration to be disrupted again, Caraline decided to turn her face to the side. Her body was facing the same direction.
"Miss," Deric called out.
"Shut up! Your voice is taking my concentration away!" snapped Caraline. Her right hand was still gripping the tablecloth.
For some time, the sound of music interrupted their conversation. Both Caraline and Deric chose to remain silent. Helen, Jeremy, and his two younger siblings had just left the room. Time and place seemed to let Caraline and Deric enjoy the moment without any interference from anyone.
"Miss."
Caraline let out a long breath. Her gaze was now fixed on the dancing fountain. The sound of the splashing water became the supporting sound of the music in this room.
"Well, Miss, I'd better get going to make you comfortable." Deric started pushing the wheelchair, then turned around to stretch the distance with Caraline.
"I'm just asking you to be quiet, not telling you to leave. So go back to the way things were," Caraline said in the end.
Deric gave a faint smile, then positioned himself to face Caraline again.
"Do you think this is all a game?" asked Caraline, who was still looking to the side.
"Of course," Deric answered honestly, "all night, I couldn't sleep because I thought about what you said about wanting to marry me. Jeremy told me that what you said were true. He also told me about the money you sent me shortly after I said those terms. But... all that wasn't enough to make me believe that this was for real. So, I decided to join this game."
"This is real and you need to get that into your head!" retorted Caraline who was beginning to force herself to look at Deric through the tail of the eye.
Deric opened his mouth halfway, then said, "I don't mean to insult Jeremy for agreeing with what he said, but even if this is real, it doesn't make sense for a perfect woman like Miss to marry a flawed man like me. Anyone would agree with me."
"This world is full of nonsense. So get used to it," Caraline retorted, "you being able to even talk to me is pretty much impossible."
Hearing Caraline's reply, Deric laughed until his eyes turned into a straight line. "You're right, Miss. How could I have forgotten about that."
"Shut up!" Caraline smacked the table. "There's nothing funny about what I said. Besides, I have no intention of amusing you."
Caraline could still hear Deric's laughter. Although it was distracting, she quite liked it. When she decided to change her sitting position to face the man again, she was greeted with a smile.
"Stop smiling!" pleaded Caraline as she hit the table again. "You're scaring me!"
Deric picked up the glass and drank the contents down. Caraline unconsciously watched how the man acted just now. It was just a normal activity that people did, but for some reason, she was interested to see it.
Feeling foolish for her recent actions, Caraline decided to leave the table. She walked to the far end of the room to observe the view of the beach and the sea. It would be incomplete to just enjoy the variety of flowers planted in this garden.
Deric did the same. His wheelchair was now not far from where Caraline was standing. Caraline noticed, but she didn't say anything.
"I think Miss is obsessed with one of the famous fairy tale series," said Deric, who did not look away from the view of the white sand on the beach.
"What do you mean?" Caraline's eyebrows drew together. Her arms crossed in front of her chest dropped momentarily. The woman instantly turned her head towards Deric. However, the moment the man glanced at her, she quickly turned back to the waves as an escape.
"It made me feel like I was in a fairy tale about a horrible creature living with a beautiful woman."
Caraline chuckled when she learned the story in question. "I don't like children's fairy tales at all. Ever since I was five years old, I've known they were just bedtime stories."
Caraline continued, "Stop talking nonsense."
"I don't know, Miss. Whenever I think of the reason behind all of Miss's actions, my mind always comes back to that fairy tale."
"Well then, stop thinking about something you can't solve," Caraline responded. The woman then stepped away from the glass wall, leaving Deric wordless.
"Miss," Deric called as he turned the wheelchair around.
"Stop calling me Miss." Caraline paused, having no intention of turning around. Honestly, she was annoyed. "I don't want to hear that from you."
"Very well, Miss."
Caraline, who heard this, turned around. Her arms were crossed in front of her chest again. Even so, her gaze turned to the side. "Did you not hear what I just said?"
"I'll stop doing it as long as Miss answers my question." Deric pushed the wheelchair forward.
"Say it and don't make me get stuck any longer with a guy like you!"
Deric paused for a moment before starting to ask, "How long are we gonna be in this situation?"
Caraline fell silent as soon as she was asked that question. Her crossed arms now dangled freely at her sides. She closed her eyes, hoping that the answer would come suddenly when she opened her eyes.
"I... don't know," Caraline finally replied. Her face sank as the words came.
"Alright," Deric said. "What should I call you?"
Caraline reflexively turned to Deric with a confused look. "What happened to you? I was sure your hearing was still normal."
"Ignorance is the answer," Deric explains.
"Call me... Caraline" said the owner of the name after a one-second pause.
"One more thing, No... I mean Caraline. What are your plans after this?"
"What are your plans after this, Caraline?" asked Deric. Instead of answering, Caralie was busy watching the man in front of her from top to bottom through the tail of the eye. "Why do I have to answer your questions? Can you understand your position now?"Honestly, Caraline was a bit offended when Deric called her by her name directly. The woman admitted that she was weird because she was the one who asked Deric to drop the lady's appendage."I'm in the position of someone waiting to hear back from you," Deric replied as he pushed his wheelchair toward Caraline.Seeing Deric approaching, Caraline reflexively retreated without looking at the road conditions. As a result, her foot accidentally tripped over her long skirt, causing her to fall onto the grass. "Aw!"For a moment, Caraline remained silent as she gazed up at the sky beyond the transparent dome of this room. Her eyes widened as she realized what had just happened. As she looked to her left and right, Caraline noticed
"I'm sure James and Jonathan have tried to show their concern." Jeremy kept the glass on the table, then stood up and approached Deric. "Then why don't you try it?""We got those shoes at the best shop in town," Jonathan lied. Anyone would have guessed the shoes were found in a trash or junkyard. "The model is perfect for your beautiful legs. Isn't that right, James?"James laughed out loud. He was even holding his stomach. After the laughter stopped, he said, "There is no more special gift for you than these shoes. So use it to appreciate our gifts."Deric smiled, taking the shoes out of the box. As expected, it was no longer usable. There was a large hole in the front like a gaping mouth. This was much worse than the shoes he was wearing this morning. Admittedly, his siblings were gifted with insults and theatrics."Be happy." Jonathan raised Deric's hands suddenly from behind. Meanwhile, James immediately squatted down and threw away the man's shoes carelessly.James painstakingly
Caraline blinked a few times before her body rose from her sleeping position. The woman then slowly massaged her head while shifting her sitting position to the edge of the mattress. When her vision returned to normal, her eyes suddenly widened when she saw the dark condition of the room.Shaking off the feeling of panic, Caraline immediately reached for the cell phone that was on the bedside table, even though she had to grope for a few things first. It was already eleven o'clock when the cell phone screen lit up."How long have I been asleep?" Caraline squinted as the cell phone light shone on her face which was still covered in confusion.Caraline immediately turned on the electricity with her cell phone. The room was bathed in the light again. The woman lay back on the bed with her eyes staring at the ceiling. It was so quiet he could hear her breathing.Caraline sank into thought. Flashes of memory alternately appear in the mind. As she recalls, after leaving the wedding location
As soon as the 'ting' sound was heard, Caraline quickly stepped out of the elevator. She rushed to the rooftop, then stopped in front of the door."I'm going to eliminate you!" said Caraline as she pressed the password. When the door opened, Caraline didn't immediately enter the room. She first stabilized her breathing while thinking about what stupid thing she had just done. Caraline stomped the floor vigorously as she entered the room. It was dark enough to require caution. The only sources of light were the moonlight and the stars in the sky, which were visible through the transparent dome.Caraline pressed her cell phone, which was connected to the rooftop garden system. Shortly after, the room was brightly lit again. She quickly scanned the surroundings while letting her steps sweep across the green grass. In the middle of her search, Caraline accidentally stepped on something. Taking a step back, she found a black shoe lying on the grass. She also found a similar object not far
Caraline slapped her cheeks a few times once she was in the elevator. Her face was as red as a boiled crab. She screamed as she pulled her hair repeatedly in embarrassment and annoyance at what had just happened. Just imagine, a CEO of a cosmetics and fashion company looking like this, especially in front of a stranger she just met two days ago.Caraline was in a hurry when the elevator doors opened. As soon as she exited the lobby, she greedily gulped in oxygen. She then clung to herself as the cold air chilled her to the bone."You should be fine," said Deric who had just come out of the lobby.Caraline closed her eyes for a moment as the head of her hand hardened. She had no intention of turning to Deric. "How dare you follow me.""I'm pretty sure that you just asked me to follow you a few minutes ago," Deric replied."Shut up and don't talk to me anymore!" Caraline walked towards the car parked in front. Once her body was seated in the driving seat, she spoke again, "I won't help
Caraline felt so electrified that her body shook violently when she heard Deric's words. Her heart was about to explode as her eyes bulged. "Don't joke around! That sounds completely absurd.""The world is full of nonsense," Deric said with a chuckle as he remembered Caraline saying the same thing.Caraline turned her head with a look of annoyance, then chuckled. The man beside her had just returned her words at that moment. How annoying."Look deeper into yourself!" Caraline spoke with a condescending look. "You're even confined to a wheelchair. So, how could I possibly believe your words? I'm sorry I don't believe in miracles.""I'm not asking you to believe me at all," Deric replied with a calm expression."Then why are you promising something if you're not asking me to believe it?" Caraline stomped down the street, biting her lower lip to keep from screaming in the early morning.Deric said, "I just want you to feel that I'm taking care of you."Although the air in Heaventown was
Deric blinked as the sunlight teased his consciousness. The man massaged his head slowly, changing his position to sitting. Once his vision normalized, he cast his eyes around the room. This place seemed unfamiliar to him.Deric exited the room with his wheelchair. The first sight that greeted him was a small lake and a large courtyard with neatly arranged trees. As soon as he turned his head to the side, a magnificent building stood proudly. Deric pushed the wheelchair forward. His gaze was still faithfully scanning the surroundings as his body moved around the courtyard. Whether it was a delusion or he was still trapped in dreamland, he felt like he was in a royal garden, and beautiful was the word that could represent the situation he saw at the moment.Satisfied with walking around the yard, Deric moved to the edge of the lake. Two swans were swimming around the area. Not far from them, there were two canoes parked. The sunlight trapped at the mouth of the lake creates crystals o
It was a frustrating day for Caraline. As the car pulled up to the office gates, she saw media members crowding the lobby. The woman entered under heavy guard. She let out a long breath as she exited the elevator. On her way to her office, she was surprised by Helen standing at the door with a worried look on her face."Are you all right, Miss Caraline?" asked Helen as she followed Caraline into the room. "I was so worried because you didn't reply to my messages or pick up my calls.""I hope I'm okay now," Caraline replied as she plopped down on a chair. When she looked at the clock, it was already ten am. "What's on my agenda now, Helen?"Helen squeezed her skirt, turning to Caraline nervously. "Miss Caraline, there's someone who's been waiting for you since earlier."Caraline, who had just opened her laptop, immediately turned her head. "Where is he now?""I'm here." Unexpectedly, Diego appeared from the doorway, flashing a smile as Caraline stared at him with a dumbfounded expressi
