The Talk

Aubrey's POV

After a long pause, Mr. Knight finally spoke. " Why do you want to break the bond?"

I shrugged. " It could help me get free from all the threats surrounding me, you know," I replied in my best nonchalant attitude. Never would I admit that I felt inadequate.

An ashen look covered his face, but it vanished straightaway, " That is not the reason. I can't allow you to break the mate bond." He replied.

" What do you mean by that?" I retorted. " Did I get into a cult unknowingly?" I asked him in anger.

" Breaking the bond has adverse effects on both parties." He replied slowly.

" I don't care. I want to live a normal life, I'm sure you don't want this. Having your life tied to a teenager." I replied.

He stared at me as if I had gone crazy. " Is this really about the threats?" He asked, searching my eyes, and I averted my gaze.

He didn't clear my doubts about wanting me and that hurt deeply. How could I have been stupid? " Being with you has done me more harm. We should
