Chapter Fifty

Rain

I couldn’t understand anything.

I just couldn’t get it.

I didn’t invite Andrew to the dinner. I never said anything like that to him. I would never do that.

Yes, I planned to invite Andrew. I considered telling him about the dinner and bringing him here—but after giving it deeper thought, after remembering everything he said and did to Enzo, I couldn’t bring myself to go through with it.

It would have been an insult to Enzo. I knew that. And that was exactly why I didn’t invite Andrew.

But then—why was he here? Who told him about this dinner? Who brought him here under the pretense that I invited him?

I didn’t do that. I saw the way he insulted Enzo. I saw how badly Enzo had been affected by everything—his health, the doctor’s report, his father’s memorial. Enzo was already in a fragile place. It would’ve been a horrible mistake to bring Andrew here, and I knew that. I knew these things and it was the reason I didn’t tell Andrew about the diner, even after his reque

  • In The Arms Of The Blind Don   The Birthmark

Chapter Ninety-eightEnzo I stood there like a ghost, my heart racing loudly in my chest. Pain stabbed at my gut, my body aching with the weight of the news. The thought of telling her burned a hole through my chest. How do you say something like that to the woman you love? How do you look her in the eyes after nearly losing her, just to tell her you also lost a part of the future? How do I tell her this? I didn’t even know how to go about it, I didn’t know how to tell her this news.Rain didn’t even know she was pregnant. She didn’t know we were supposed to become parents. She didn’t know she had a part of our future growing inside of her. And now… she would wake up to one heartbeat instead of two. She would wake up to one baby, instead of two. How do I tell her this? How do I even go about it?I pressed the heels of my hands into my eyes, trying to hold back the wave that kept threatening to drown me.Gregor stepped closer, his hand firm on my shoulder. “You’re not alone in this,”

  • In The Arms Of The Blind Don   The Loss

Chapter Ninety-sevenEnzoIt was supposed to be a good news. It was supposed to be the best news of my life, even greater than the fact that I could see now. It was something I had been looking forward to even though I didn’t talk too much about it. It was supposed to be a news we would celebrate.Rain was Pregnant. She was carrying my babies. She was pregnant with twins.Rain was carrying my children, and I had no idea. There was no warning, no sign, no subtle hint. She didn’t even know too. If she did, maybe she would have stood back and not tried to protect me, she would have had that motherly instinct to protect herself and the babies first. I didn’t even know why she keeps doing that, why she keeps getting in trouble trying to save me. It was just a knife, it would be just a stab mark. I wouldn’t have died from that. She could have just pushed me away and not stand in the target point.God, I was confused and drained. My heart continued to pound frantically in my chest, merciless

  • In The Arms Of The Blind Don   The Good And Bad News

Chapter Ninety-sixEnzo“Rain!” I screamed again, cradling her in my arms.Everything around me shattered into noise and chaos, but I couldn’t hear any of it. All I could hear was Rain’s voice, the last broken echo of it, it rang in my head over and over again. Her blood was on me, all over my white shirt. Warm. Too warm.God, what do I do?“Rain,” I gasped again, shaking her gently, cradling her like if I held her tight enough, I could keep her here. Like if I held her like that, I could keep her alive. “Stay with me. Stay with me, please.” I begged, my eyes stinging with unshed tears. The music stopped, the hall now filled with people screaming, voices shouting, chairs scrambling off the floor as they rushed to my side. The lights in the hall flickered as the entire place dissolved into panic. Everyone was concerned, I could see it on their faces. But it didn’t make sense. None of it made sense. How could they be concerned when it was one of them who did this? How could they be con

  • In The Arms Of The Blind Don   The Syndicate Ball 2

Chapter Ninety-fiveEnzoIt had been a long time. Much longer than I could even remember. So long since I walked into this place with my eyes functioning, my eyes truly seeing and feeling every gaze that pierced into my body like daggers. This had always been the venue for the Syndicate Ball. The grand hall that hosted the most powerful and dangerous men in our world. It was an annual event, a gathering of alliances, silent threats, and temporary peace. I had never missed one. Not even once. But this… this was the first time in years that I walked in and truly felt the difference between the outside world and the world inside this hall. Before now, it had always been the same to me. It was just another room swallowed in darkness, just another place where I relied on sound, scent, memories and instinct to move. Back then, it didn’t matter if the room was gilded in gold or burning in red, I couldn’t even see it. Every venue was the same: black, blank and silent to my eyes. But tonight w

  • In The Arms Of The Blind Don   The Syndicate Ball 1

Chapter Ninety-fourRainThe first thing I felt and noticed when I woke up was the silence. That cold, unfamiliar kind of quiet that makes you feel like something is missing. I reached out instinctively to the other side of the bed, my palm brushing against cold, untouched sheets. My brows furrowed as I pushed myself up slowly, my eyes sweeping across the room. But there was no sign of him. Enzo wasn’t in the room. There was no shirt thrown across the chair. No shoes near the foot of the bed. No scent of his cologne swirling in the air.Did he even come home last night? Where did he go with Gregor? What happened yesterday? I couldn’t help but wonder where he slept and if he was save. The thought left a strange ache in my chest and my eyes continued to move around the room. I sat there for a moment, blinking away sleep, trying to remember the last few moments before I drifted off. I had been sitting there, waiting for him to get back so we could continue our unfinished discussion, but

  • In The Arms Of The Blind Don   The Shopping

Chapter Ninety-threeEnzo Gregor and I left the company just before the sun began its slow descent, casting the sky in a deep amber glow that poured through the windows. He offered to drive me home, and I nodded. But as we got outside to the parked car, something inside me stirred, an idea coming alive but instantly felt dreadful. The urge to get behind the wheel itched at my fingers. It had been so long. Too long.It has been years since I sat in a driver’s seat, holding the wheels and driving through the city. It had been so long since I was in control of a journey. I could still remember doing that with a wide smile on my face. I remember going on long drives with my heart thumping in excitement. It had been so long I was already forgetting the way it used to feel. And now the idea of holding the wheel again, of feeling the world in motion under my control was very tempting. For the first time since I lost my sight, I could. I had the power to do something so simple, so normal. I
