Chapter 5

Penulis: Bromelia Fische
Just as Troy was about to strike, May, with tears in her eyes, rushed forward and stopped him.

Troy looked down to see his mother's weathered, tear-streaked face. His voice was hoarse as he whispered, "Mom..."

"Troy, please listen to me," May pleaded, her voice trembling. "Don't do anything rash. Please, I'm begging you."

Troy's raised hand slowly dropped, and his eyes grew red as he fought back the pain. Seeing his mother like this made his heart ache, his insides twisting with unbearable pain.

His eyes were bloodshot, his voice breaking as he said, "Mom, I promise you, I've made something of myself. I'm capable now. You don't have to worry."

May's voice cracked as she sobbed, "Troy, it's alright. Our family doesn't have much. It's understandable the girl wouldn't want to be with you because of us. Please, don't be impulsive. Just talk to her. Maybe she'll give you a chance."

She turned to Hannah, but before she could speak further, Hannah coldly spat, "You're wasting your breath! I'm not giving this failure a chance! Let me make it clear. I'm the daughter of the Pierpoints, one of the Nine Great Families of Silverton. And you?"

She sneered, her eyes scanning Troy dismissively.

"You're from humble beginnings with no power, no influence! Look at your family, and look at yourself. Do you really think you're good enough for me?"

May staggered back, her face filled with shock. She couldn't believe the woman in front of her was the daughter of the Pierpoints, one of the wealthiest and most powerful families in Silverton. Everyone had heard of them.

The neighbors in the courtyard exchanged whispers, their voices filled with awe and disbelief.

"She's the daughter of the Pierpoints?! No wonder she looks down on Troy... That's one powerful family!"

"Exactly! The Pierpoints are worth billions! How could someone like Troy stand a chance?"

"Right? She's clearly out of his league! Who does he think he is?"

Troy stood motionless, his eyes locked on Hannah as she continued her cruel tirade. Her tone dripped with superiority as she sneered at him.

"Do you hear that? The difference between you and me is like the difference between the sky and the earth! You'll never be good enough for someone like me, and you think you can lay a hand on me? Do you even know how much influence the Pierpoints have? If you dare touch me, I'll wipe out your family in an instant! Don't test me."

Hannah stood tall, her head held high in arrogance as she glared at Troy.

Troy's hands clenched into fists, his body tense with barely contained rage. His eyes narrowed to dangerous slits as he slowly spoke, his voice cold and deliberate.

"You're just from the Pierpoints. Do you really think you're something special? In my eyes, you're no better than ants. Do you know who helped you rise to where you are? It was my mentor! I agreed to this engagement because I thought your family would be grateful. I was even prepared to protect you all. Instead of showing gratitude, you throw my mentor's kindness aside and humiliate my parents. You dare threaten to destroy my family. The Pierpoints will pay for this."

Troy's anger erupted like a storm, his presence overwhelming. His glare cut through Hannah like a blade, sending a chill down her spine.

Hannah sneered, trying to remain composed despite her fear. "You're nothing, a mere speck of dust! My family can crush you with a single finger. Why would the Pierpoints ever need your protection? Look in the mirror! I can end you with a single slap! Who do you think you are?"

Troy's gaze suddenly turned icy cold, sharp and menacing, like the edge of a blade poised to strike.

Hannah's body stiffened—she felt as if she had just become the target of a ferocious wild beast's glare.

Her breath caught in her throat as she stumbled back a few steps, her voice trembling with fear. "Wh-what do you think you're doing? Don't make a move! I-I have bodyguards! Touch me, and my family will kill you!"

"Kill me? Do you think you have what it takes?"

Troy's eyes were filled with a chilling coldness. At that moment, the anger that had been boiling inside him could no longer be contained.

He took a step forward; at that exact moment, the bodyguards behind Hannah moved to block his path.

Hannah, her voice rising in panic and fury, screamed, "Go! Kill him!"

The elite guards, trained and experienced, rushed toward Troy.

Yet, he didn't hesitate. With a swift motion, his body moved like lightning, and in an instant, he was among them.

Troy slapped two of the burly bodyguards across the face, sending them flying across the yard with sickening force. Their bodies crashed into the ground, blood pouring from their faces as they crumpled, unconscious.

The remaining guards hesitated for just a moment, but that was all it took. Troy was upon them again, his movements a blur. His legs swept out like lightning, knocking them one by one out of the yard. They tumbled to the ground, spewing out blood while groaning in pain.

Hannah stood frozen, her face pale. She couldn't believe what had just happened. The Pierpoints' top-tier bodyguards, all trained to handle threats ten men each, had been taken down in mere seconds.

She turned to flee, but before she could move, Troy's voice froze her in her tracks. "Where do you think you're going?"

He appeared in front of her in the blink of an eye, his expression grim. His hand shot out, grabbing her by the throat.

Hannah's eyes bulged in fear, her voice choked with terror. "L-Let go of me!"

"Let go of you?" Troy's voice was dripping with mockery. "Didn't you say you'd wipe out my family?"

His eyes were filled with bitter contempt as his hand swung swiftly, landing a sharp slap across her face.

She screamed in agony, her once-beautiful face now bruised and bloody, her nose gushing red. Half of her face began to swell and distort.

"I-I'll kill you!" she shrieked.

"Kill me?" Troy's voice was cold, his eyes narrowed. "Do you think you're in a position to threaten me?"

Without warning, he slapped her again, the force of it making her stagger. Blood dripped from the corner of her mouth as her face bloomed in purple and red.

"Y-You..."

"What?" Troy's voice was laced with indifference.

With a sudden motion, his hand swung again, striking her with brutal force several more times.

Hannah was left a mess, blood splattering from her mouth as her body swayed, barely able to stand.

Troy let go of her with a flick of his wrist, his gaze as cold as ice, like the glare of a predator about to pounce. He looked down at her with the disdain of a conqueror, speaking each word slowly and deliberately.

"You're just a Pierpoint. Who gave you the audacity to act like you're a queen? That's the price you pay for insulting my parents," he added coldly before turning his back on her.

Hannah collapsed to the ground, trembling in pain and shock, her face a mess of blood.

The courtyard fell silent, the neighbors stunned into disbelief. May and Gordon stood frozen, their faces pale, tears brimming in their eyes.

May, teary-eyed, was unable to comprehend what she had just witnessed. Did her son just hit the heiress of the Pierpoints?

Troy's voice broke the silence, calm and resolute. "This engagement is canceled, but the Pierpoints have no say in it. You have no right to cancel our marriage. It's my decision. I am ending this!"

He turned his cold gaze on Hannah.

"Now scram."

He spoke with such authority, sending shivers into everyone nearby.

Hannah pressed her trembling hand against her face, still seething with hatred. Her voice was bitter as she spoke, her words laced with venom, "Do you think you can get away with this? You'll regret it! The Pierpoints will never forget this!"

Troy didn't flinch. "I've never cared for the Pierpoints. Now get out of my sight."

Hannah's lips trembled as she bit down, drawing blood. Inside, a storm of fury and hatred raged.

Why was he so confident, so arrogant? Why wasn't he afraid of the Pierpoints? Did he not understand what the Pierpoints were capable of?

Spitting out a mouthful of blood, Hannah suddenly sneered as her eyes flashed with rage, her voice filled with venom, "So what if you hit me? So what if you act all tough? You're still nothing! You'll always be beneath them. No one will ever respect you! Even if you kill me today, no one will ever marry you!"

Troy narrowed his eyes, his expression cold. "Is that so? How do you know no one would marry me? We'll see about that."

Hannah pressed her hand against her swollen face, her glare filled with hatred. Just then, the sound of hurried footsteps echoed from outside the courtyard.

The next moment, several striking figures stepped into the courtyard at once.

With a sharp motion, a few marriage contracts were thrown toward the group, and a cold voice rang out.

"The Sommers hereby annuls your engagement, you useless waste of space! This matter is never to be mentioned again!"

"The Xaviers are also calling off this marriage. From this day on, Troy, we have no further ties!"

"The Grahams are also withdrawing from the engagement!"

"The Chadwicks are calling off the marriage too!"

"The Stones are nullifying this engagement as well, and severing all ties with Troy!"

One after another, the voices echoed through the courtyard.

Troy barely registered the rest of what was said. All he could hear was the recurring theme—they were here to call off the engagements.

So, everyone was breaking off the engagement now. Troy wondered whether they were quick to discard him because they saw that he had no power and status.

The harshness of reality hit him.

Looking at his parents' faces, filled with disappointment and sorrow, Troy felt his heart tremble.

He had thought that coming back to choose his bride would be a way to boost his parents' social standing. Instead... He had become the punchline of a joke.

Suddenly, a bitter laugh escaped him. So, this was what his "lovely" fiancées were like.

"Did you see that? No one wants to honor this marriage! It's because you're just too pathetic. You don't deserve us! We are the Nine Great Families! Your family has nothing! We're from different worlds, Troy. Accept it!"

Hannah's voice rang out with a mocking laugh.

Troy smiled grimly, realizing that today had truly become an embarrassment.

At that moment, the sound of high heels echoed again from outside the courtyard. A voice followed, drifting into the room—clear and cold like a mountain stream, indifferent but steady.

"I haven't arrived yet. Who says no one wants to honor this marriage? You all are at the height of power now, but had it not been for the help of Troy's mentor all those years ago, where would your families be? Even though he is of humble origins, the Skeldons still honor the agreement made long ago! This engagement is still valid. I accept it!"

A wave of shock rippled through the room as everyone turned to look at the figure who had entered.

Troy's gaze shifted toward her, and his heart slammed in his chest.

It was...her.

A sharp smack echoed through the air, and Susan's body flew backward, crashing to the ground with a heavy thud.Everyone stood frozen, staring in shock. On the ground, Susan's face was marked with a glaring slap print, and blood dripped from the corner of her mouth.Troy stepped forward, his presence overwhelming. Susan's eyes widened in fear as she stammered, "Wh-what do you think you're doing?"His large hand reached out, grabbing her by the neck. His voice was chillingly calm. "Who's shameless again? I'm giving you a chance to speak properly. Otherwise, your face won't be in one piece by the end of today."Tears welled up in Susan's eyes as she trembled in fear. "I-I'm shameless. Please, d-don't hurt me."She sobbed, her voice breaking. Never in her life had she been treated like this."Now you're starting to get it," Troy sneered, his tone cold. "Would've been better if you'd understood sooner, you shameless wench."With that, he tossed her aside and walked over to Joanna

Joanna's once vibrant, luscious lips were now as pale as death, and her body trembled uncontrollably. Without hesitation, Troy reached out and grabbed her wrist. After a moment, his expression softened with realization, and he quickly pressed two fingers to a spot just below her abdomen.Immediately, Joanna's body ceased shaking, and the color returned to her face as her breathing evened out. In just a few moments, the coldness that had gripped her body melted away, and she seemed to return to normal.Looking at him in amazement, she whispered, "What just happened?""You're anemic," Troy explained gently, his voice calm but firm. "And on top of that, you've been under a lot of stress. You haven't been eating regularly, have you?"Joanna furrowed her brow. "How do you know all this?"Troy gave her a faint smile. "I know a bit of medicine. It's easy to tell."Joanna blinked in disbelief. "Y-You know medicine? I never would've guessed!"Troy chuckled softly, "The top doctors you'

On the other end of the line, the voice of Joanna's secretary trembled with urgency."Ms. Skeldon, Warrington Enterprise has terminated our contract. It's due to issues on our end... So not only has the contract been canceled, but we've also incurred a loss of over 40 million dollars and have to pay an additional 7 million in penalties... Ms. Skeldon, the only option now is to sell off the company's stock."Joanna staggered, nearly collapsing. She placed her hand on her pale forehead, her voice quivering as she asked, "How could this happen? Why would Warrington Enterprise terminate the contract like this? It doesn't make sense!""It's because there were some unexpected issues with part of the company's products. What should we do now?" The secretary's voice was frantic, filled with panic. Joanna's heart sank. The company's products were always known for their quality, so why were there issues now? Clenching her teeth, Joanna responded, "Calm everyone down. I'm heading to the co

At the southeast corner of the Skeldon estate stood a massive ancient tree, its trunk so thick it could easily be wrapped by two people. Troy furrowed his brow, sensing that something was off about the tree as a strange, unsettling feeling washed over him. He glanced at Joanna before asking in a low voice, "Honey, has this tree always been here?"Joanna paused in her tracks and shot him a glare. "Can you stop calling me honey?"Troy grinned and replied casually, "Well, we've got to keep up appearances, don't we? Otherwise, people might get suspicious."Joanna clenched her teeth, clearly frustrated, but decided not to argue with him. She looked at the tree and then explained, her voice softening, "That tree was moved here about six months ago. Grandpa had it brought from somewhere—no one knows exactly where. It's supposed to be very rare. Why?"Troy squinted, his eyes narrowing thoughtfully. "Nothing. I just think it looks beautiful.""Of course, it's beautiful. Grandpa spent a

Something was wrong! This blood… There was something off about it! Troy immediately sensed something was wrong, but instead of reacting immediately, he quietly stepped aside and observed Archer. "Dad!" "Archer!" Ryker and Lillian rushed to his side, followed by Oliver and his family. Everyone was frozen, stunned by the scene before them. Archer's face had turned an unnatural white, and his breathing was so weak, it was barely noticeable. Ryker's voice trembled. "Quick, get Dr. Moreno here!" Lillian snapped out of her daze and ran out of the room without hesitation. It wasn't long before Andrew Moreno, a doctor wearing a white coat, rushed in behind Lillian. Andrew was the Skeldons' private doctor. He hurried over to Archer and quickly pulled out a stethoscope from his bag before placing it on Archer's chest while using his fingers to check the latter's pulse. After a few moments, his expression grew serious. "Mr. Ryker, Mr. Oliver. Mr. Archer's condition

The young man was none other than Oliver's son and Joanna's cousin, Winston Skeldon. Standing next to him was the elderly man, the legendary healer of Silverton, Benedict Stevens. Winston entered and immediately said, "Dad, I've brought Dr. Stevens!" Oliver hurried over, grabbing Benedict's hand with excitement. "Dr. Stevens! I've heard so much about you! I apologize for disturbing you today, but please, could you take a look at my father?" Benedict stroked his beard and smiled. "Mr. Oliver, no need to be so formal. Don't worry. Mr. Archer has always been a man of great character, and he's also a well-known philanthropist here in Silverton. I respect him greatly, and I promise I'll do my best."Oliver, still thrilled, said, "Thank you so much, Dr. Stevens!"He quickly ushered Benedict to the bedside, and without wasting any time, Benedict began to examine Archer. Benedict took Archer's pulse with focused concentration. Soon, his brow furrowed slightly, and a look of concern

His body spun like a top and was flung across the room, crashing hard onto the floor. The entire hospital room was eerily silent. Oliver stood frozen, shocked, and then erupted in fury, "Ragnar, you brat! How dare you hit my son!"He was about to rush forward, but Troy raised his hand and said calmly, "Seems like someone's itching for a slap. I don't mind giving a few more if you'd like."The room went still. Oliver froze in his tracks, his body trembling with rage. "Y-You dare to hit me?"Troy remained cool. "So what if I do? I only treat you like family out of respect, but if I decide to drop my pretense, you're nothing to me. Step forward again, and I'll make sure to slap you too. Go ahead and try me."Joanna's family watched, wide-eyed. Was Troy really this bold?Oliver's face turned purple with rage. After a long pause, he gritted his teeth and muttered, "Y-You'

Troy stared at Hannah, a sudden feeling of disgust washing over him. He shot a cold glance at the two of them. Not wanting to engage in conversation, he turned to leave. Just as he lifted his foot to walk away, the man beside Hannah scoffed. "Is this the Troy you told me about? What a pathetic guy."Troy slowly stopped in his tracks and turned to face the man. The man was dressed in a sharp suit and wore gold-rimmed glasses, his hair slicked back. His skin was pale; although his features were handsome, there was an air of coldness about him. He was Victor, a member of the Hurlbutt family from Silverton. Though the Hurlbutts weren't part of the Nine Great Families, they still held considerable power. Victor was also one of Hannah's suitors and harbored feelings for her.Seeing Troy stare at him, Victor sneered; his arrogance was clearly on display. "What are you looking at? Troy remained silent. Joanna twisted her small hands together, a look of regret crossing her face. "I'm sorry... It's my fault..." Troy, at that moment, extinguished his cigarette and suddenly turned to look at Joanna. Before she could even react, he placed a soft kiss on her forehead. Joanna froze for a moment, and Troy smiled lightly. "I'm not angry. I understand how you feel. It's perfectly normal if you can't accept it yet—after all, we've only known each other for a day."Joanna's heart stirred as she gazed at him; a hint of something new flashed in her eyes, and a genuine smile appeared on her face. "Well, I hope there will come a day when you'll make me willing to give myself to you." Troy chuckled, walked over to the balcony, and glanced back at her. "I'm gonna go. Goodnight." As his words faded, a breeze swept through, and Troy was already gone from the room.Joanna walked to the balcony, watching his retreating figure. A strange expression flickered in her eyes...

Joanna couldn't believe Troy had earned five million in one night so easily. She furrowed her brows, her tone laced with concern. "You didn't do anything illegal, did you?""Of course not. Every penny is legitimate. It's all from them," Troy assured her, his voice steady."You promise you're not lying to me?" Joanna's eyes flickered with suspicion.Troy gave a soft chuckle. "I'd never lie to you. You're my wife."Joanna's cheeks flushed a soft pink. "I'm not your wife," she muttered, looking away."Who's my wife, then?" Troy's eyes twinkled with mischief, his gaze locking with hers. Joanna quickly looked down, feeling a surge of heat rise to her face. The mood shifted, growing heavier. The two of them were positioned in a way that felt far too intimate—Troy on top, Joanna beneath him. She quickly realized what was happening, and her face burned with embarrassment. "G-Get off me," she stammered."I'm not getting off," Troy replied, grinning. "Remember what you promised me t

"Wh-who are you? You'd better not do anything rash!" Joanna said, her voice trembling as she lay still in the dark. The fear in her chest was nearly suffocating.Troy deliberately lowered his voice, his words dripping with menace. "What if I do? What are you going to do about it? Are you going to scream for help?"Joanna's face drained of color. "Please, don't do this. Is it money you want? I can give you money. I'll give you whatever you want!""I don't want money." Troy's voice was dark and close, his breath warm against her neck. "I want you."Joanna's heart raced, and she clutched the bed sheets tightly. Her voice was barely above a whisper. "I'm begging you... I'll give you money. Just let me go..."Troy's voice was steady. "I already told you, I don't want money. I just want you to spend the night with me.""No... I can't... "Besides, that Troy is poor as can be, and his family is as low as it gets. How could he possibly be good enough for the Skeldons? How could he be good enough for you?" Lillian scoffed and crossed her arms. "I'm telling you this right now. I'll only approve of you being with Howell. As for Troy, he doesn't deserve a single thing from the Skeldons!"Joanna sighed deeply. "Mom, Troy and I are already engaged. Grandpa insists that we're together. There's not much you can say that'll change that. And honestly, I don't have feelings for Howell."Lillian shook her head. "Now you don't, but you can give it time. The Sowles are a big family, and you shouldn't miss out on this opportunity. Trust me. I'm just looking out for you."With that, Lillian gave her daughter a warm smile. "Alright, sweetheart. Troy teased with a grin."Yes, it is," Khloe replied, her tone firm. "I only allow my future husband to look at me like that.""Well, in that case, I'll just be your future husband," Troy shot back with a mischievous glint in his eyes.Khloe slammed on the brakes, the car coming to a halt as she turned to him, her eyes wide. "I…" Khloe's eyes were filled with a hint of panic, her voice trembling as she spoke. Earlier, she had indeed intended to provoke Troy, just as Frank had suggested. It was only meant to be a harmless test—just to see if Troy was even remotely interested in her. She never expected things to escalate this quickly. How could she let this happen? Sure, Troy was handsome, young, and successful—but she was still a virgin! How could she possibly lose herself to him on the very first meeting? Khloe bit her lip, feeling a wave of fear wash over her. Her eyes darted away as she whispered, "Y-You should sit down." "Now you want me to sit down? Weren't you just teasing me a minute ago?" Troy's large hand slid up Khloe's smooth thigh. He leaned in slowly, pretending to kiss her. Khloe gasped softly, her heart racing as she watched Troy come closer. "Do you like my legs?"Troy's mind blanked. Had she noticed? He rubbed his nose, feigning nonchalance. "Yeah, I do. But next time, try black stockings. What shocked him was the fact that Frank was giving away the Soulvine, a treasure he had kept for many years. However, Godfrey didn't dare protest. He immediately went upstairs.
