LOGIN“Calling his name, eh? Do you think he’ll save you? What if he sacrifices you, Vaelora?” Red whispered to me again.
His grip tightened around me and I grimaced in pain. “Argh, it hurts!” Kael arrived in the blink of an eye, managing to pull me away from Red. Red’s sharp claws had scratched my cheek; fresh blood was flowing from the wound. Kaelith examined my body, checking which parts were injured. “Does it hurt a lot? Are you okay?” he asked me. I touched the blood on my cheek; it hurt so much I couldn’t feel anything anymore. Tears just streamed down my cheeks. Red stood there, staring at us with a sly look on his face. He deliberately licked the blood from his fingernails. “Kaelith, do you want to break the contract?! The Haugen family and we are bound together; we must perform the ritual,” Red shouted. “No, I won’t sacrifice Vaelora,” Kael replied. I grabbed Kael’s shirt, “Do you want to kill me?” Kaelith looked at me sadly; he even trembled as he wiped my face, which was covered in my own blood. “Vaelora, your family’s curse is a pact with us. I can gain immortality, and the Haugen family can achieve complete success.” No, Kael must be lying. The curse—sacrificing every woman from the Haugen family so they can live forever? “The blood moon rises tomorrow. We have to take Vaelora now, Kaelith!” I looked at Kael more intently; he continued to give me a sorrowful look. But he couldn’t deny what Red had explained. The truth about Kael pierced my heart even deeper; just as we seemed to be starting to trust one another, it now felt as though I’d been betrayed. The night sky was dark and starless tonight, and the wind blew fiercely against my body. Kael drew closer; I could see tears streaming down his cheeks. What was this feeling? I didn’t want to see him crying like that. I could feel his lips kiss my forehead and he whispered, “Forgive me, Vaelora.” After that, I don’t remember what happened; everything went dark and I lost consciousness. ••••• I woke up in a fairly spacious room. It was the old building from my previous dream, but this time it was real. I tried to get up, but I realised one thing: my body was lying there with my hands bound. I couldn’t move; with a panicked expression, I looked to the right and left, searching for Kaelith. I only just realised that on the ceiling of this room there was a large mirror showing that I was lying on top of a ritual circle. Runes encircled my body, along with symbols I didn’t understand; the candles around me were lit. Was I being sacrificed? “Kael!” I shouted his name in desperation. “Kaelith Vaeltharion Morveth!” “Vaelora,” I could hear his faint voice. It turned out Kael was there, right in front of me. His body was covered in blood; he sat there, his body trembling as he endured the pain. Unconsciously, tears streamed down my face; I felt sad because I was powerless. I was about to be sacrificed, and Kael was injured like that. The sound of footsteps echoed into the room; it was Red, his dark cloak sweeping across the floor. His eyes blazed, filled with ambition and a fierce desire to kill that sent shivers down my spine. How on earth could I escape from here? He slowly approached me, untying the ropes binding my hands. He helped me to my feet and sat me facing Kaelith, who was, it turned out, inside another ritual circle. Kael coughed, blood spurting from his mouth. Red grinned at me, touching my cheek with his terrifyingly cold hand. “Kael… You’ve fallen in love with your own prey, haven’t you?” he said, turning to Kaelith. “Don’t touch her!” Kael said softly, he worried about me. Red gripped my cheek; I winced again. My cheek was still raw from his sharp nails, and now he was pressing down on it like this. I glared at him. “Let me go!” Red smiled again. “Do you think I want to? I won’t. Soon you’ll undergo a ritual that will change my life forever!” I tried to get up, but I still couldn’t stand; my legs were bound with iron chains. “This is your fate, Vaelora. And you, Kaelith, are merely a tool to bring it all to fruition.” His voice echoed through the room; I looked at Kaelith, who seemed to be silently chanting a spell. His eyes were fixed on me; he was focused, despite the pain. I tried to signal to him, so that we could escape this mad ritual. He signalled back to me, but I didn’t quite understand. Red raised his ritual dagger; its blade gleamed coldly. He approached me again and slashed the palm of my hand until my blood flowed. I couldn’t bring myself to scream; it was excruciating. Then he did the same to Kaelith; our blood made the ritual circle glow brightly. But just as the energy began to gather, something changed. I sensed something strange happening—could this be Kaelith’s doing? I looked at the man; he raised his head. His gaze was fixed on Red; he gritted his teeth, forcing himself to fight against the binding magic. “Vaelora… now!” Kael whispered to me. I was at a loss as to what to do; I tried with all my might to rise and break free from this ritual circle, but the iron chains felt scorching hot against my legs. I watched as Kaelith unleashed the energy from within him. The invisible bonds radiating through our now-merged blood suddenly cracked, then snapped! A moment later, Kaelith managed to push me out of the circle. The symbols of the ritual circle, which had been glowing, were now chaotic; there was no magic left there. “No!” I heard Red shout.Kaelith’s gaze began to waver, I could feel my words starting to affect him. Red looked uncomfortable, he approached us again.“Enough with your drama,” he said.A dark aura reappeared around his body.“You’re making me sick!”Suddenly the entire mansion shook violently, Red unleashed an unimaginable power. The ceiling cracked, the windows shattered.Alaric had said earlier that the ritual had to be held in the basement, but now there was no time left.I was shocked, glowing red symbols began to appear on the floor, encircling Red and Kaelith. Since when had there been a ritual symbol pattern there?“What’s happening?!” I started to panic, Kaelith pushed me out of the ritual circle.“The ritual can be performed now! Simon managed to create that pattern while we were stalling earlier,” said Alaric.A strong wind blew, Red started screaming as if his body were bound by chains, while Kaelith began to rise, the distance between them slowly closing.“The eclipse has reached the unification
Am I the ultimate target? If that’s the case, the book Alaric brought seems completely useless.“In the end, I’ll still be sacrificed if that’s how it goes,” I said without thinking.“There’s a way to end this, Vaelora,” Alaric said, looking at me seriously. “This curse can be lifted without sacrificing you.”“How?” asked Kaelith.Alaric took a deep breath, then turned to Kaelith, “You and Red must be completely separated.”Red emerged from inside the mansion, he had managed to break free from the ritual seal Kaelith had created.“Impossible. We’ll always be connected because, fundamentally, we were the same soul from the start,” said Red.Red prepared to attack again, but Kaelith immediately blocked him.“Enough, Red. You’ve already destroyed this place, so that’s enough fighting,” Kaelith said firmly.I watched the two of them, Kaelith and Red, who looked identical but were different versions of the same person. Then I realized something, Red had said they came from the same soul.T
Kaelith fell silent again, his arms tightening around me. It was as if I might vanish if he let go of me even for a moment.I knew my wish was a difficult decision for him, as well as for me. Who could accept such a fate? No couple could bear to sacrifice their soulmate.“No, Vaelora, I can’t. I’ve told you this so many times,” Kaelith finally whispered.“Kael…” I gently touched his cheek, Kaelith still looked at me with that sad expression.“Vaelora, this will never end if we keep talking about it. I can’t lose you again.”Now I was the one who fell silent for a moment. It was true; this wasn’t the first time. In a past life, we had been together, and Kaelith had found me again, the fate he had long awaited.“See? Kaelith is weak, especially when it comes to love, but he always denies it at first. Yet, in the end, it’s always the same.”Red laughed afterward; the dark aura surrounding his body grew stronger. The floor beneath his feet began to crack slowly. Kaelith stood up, he rele
The light in this room had been dim since we arrived, but now it was pitch black. A few lights were flickering, and a draft was coming in through the cracks in the broken window. From outside, I could see the moonlight beginning to change, turning a deep red.“How could there be a blood moon tonight? Isn’t it supposed to be tomorrow?” I said softly. I covered my mouth again, trying to stop myself from coughing, but it was in vain. The burning sensation in my throat now felt like it was scorching from the inside, spreading all the way to my chest.“Kael…” my voice was so faint, barely audible.Kaelith hugged me tighter, I could feel his hands trembling. He wasn’t just afraid of losing me, he was also holding back his anger. For now, Kaelith’s power seemed sealed away; he couldn’t do much, and Red felt far superior.“I’m here, Vaelora, hold on,” Kaelith whispered to me.But all I could feel was my body growing weaker. The pain had spread throughout my entire body, and it felt as if some
I fell silent, Kaelith couldn’t hold back his emotions toward me any longer. I knew he was worried about me, but I was hiding this for his own good as well. My breath felt heavy, my throat stinging again as if burning from within. Kaelith’s anxious gaze made my chest feel even tighter. I couldn’t bear to see the man I loved hurt. “Ah, finally. I’ve been waiting for this moment,” said Red, giving me a faint smirk. “Shut up! Don’t you dare interfere,” Kaelith snapped at Red. Red just chuckled, he was different from when we first met. This time, he was bolder and more annoying. My hands began to tremble. Finally, I looked at Kaelith… the man who had been trying to protect me all this time, even sacrificing himself for me. “Kael… I did see something, and it started on the very first day after I met you, the night after our meeting in the archives.” Kaelith’s expression changed instantly. His face tensed, his eyes never leaving mine. “What was it?” "I saw your past at
Kaelith fell silent for a moment after I asked. His hands were still gripping the steering wheel tightly, but our car began to slow down slightly. It was as if he were holding back from speaking. I knew he was hiding something, and he had to tell me. “Don’t hide anything you know from me anymore,” I said to him. The car pulled over to the side of the road, and then Kaelith turned to look at me. “I didn’t mean to hide it from you,” he finally said, “but I was just waiting for the right time to tell you.” I could see the uncertainty on his face, it wasn’t like him at all. Lately, he’d been acting like this a lot. Sometimes he looked sad and very anxious. “Just tell me, honey. If this has anything to do with everything that’s happened, then I have a right to know,” I said again. Kaelith leaned back, taking a moment to breathe before finally turning to face me again. “Saga… doesn’t seem like an ordinary human,” he said. I furrowed my brow in surprise, this fact was quite shocking
