Strangers Pov

I shouldn’t have let him kiss me again. But God, it was hard to say no when Dario had me pinned between the dresser and his mouth, one hand on my hip and the other sliding beneath my shirt like he owned me. His breath was hot against my skin, his lips rough in the way I liked it—unapologetic, greedy, fast and grounding.

Camilla’s silk robe was already slipping down my shoulders, and my leg had wrapped itself around him without thinking.

“We’re gonna get caught one of these days,” Dario muttered between kisses, his voice like gravel.

I laughed softly, fingers in his hair. “Then don’t be slow.”

His hands moved lower, tugging me against him, his lips started grazing my jaw.

We shouldn’t be doing this. Not here. Not in her house. But Dario was the only part of my life that still felt real. I could breathe around him. Laugh. Feel something other than Camilla’s endless, controlling chaos.

My fingers tugged at the hem of his shirt, about to pull his shirt over his head when—

  • Let Me Go, Boss!   93: Confession

Jax’s POVThe lights blinded me from every direction, cameras clicking faster than my heartbeat as I walked towards the stage. My name echoed through the hall. Somewhere in the distance, someone called out, “Mr. Maddox, over here!” and then again, “Smile for the donors!”But I wasn’t in the mood to smile. My heart was beating fast, my pulse raging under my skin.Leo. Mother fucking Leo had kissed Riley, and she had allowed him to. I adjusted the mic on my chest. My palm was damp. The spotlight hit my chest immediately I was on the stage and even though I was used to this: crowds, speeches, expectation—it felt different tonight. My eyes looked into the crowd, searching for Riley. When I spotted her, she wasn’t looking at me. She stood near the second row of round tables, just behind a man in a silver tux. She looked like sin in that black dress, but her arms were folded and her gaze was fixed on a distant wall, anywhere but on me.I swallowed.Caleb’s voice rang faintly in my ear fr

  • Let Me Go, Boss!   92: The ex in extra

Riley’s POV My hand was tucked into the crook of Jax’s elbow, each of our step rehearsed as we walked through the ballroom. I pasted on a polite smile, the one I had perfected over the last few events, and nodded politely as another couple approached.“Mr. Maddox,” a man beamed, reaching out to shake Jax’s hand. “I’m Warren Blake. I run the Blake Foundation in Colorado. This is my wife, Evelyn.”Jax grinned, it was his usual sharp and practiced smile. “I remember you both,” he nodded, smiling brighter, “it’s so good to see you again, Warren. Evelyn, you look stunning.”I smiled and extended my right hand. “Riley. It’s a pleasure to meet you both.”Evelyn’s eyes raked over me with interest, or judgment. Probably the latter, she was judging my dress, the way the slit grazed my thigh and the neckline plunged a little too low. Her smile tightened into a practiced line. “You’re even prettier than the photos. I can see why the press loves you two.”I laughed, the sound polite and noncommi

  • Let Me Go, Boss!   91: Camilla

Riley’s POVI pushed the door and got out, holding my phone tightly in my hands. I wouldn’t sit in there and let watch him and Camilla.Fuck. I was so stupid. So stupid to think I could just let it happen and act like it was okay to have him kissing me like he didn’t have a woman in his life. He pulled up beside me. “Riley,” he called. “Please get back in the car.”“Go home, Jax.” I shouted and crossed to the other end of the road. “I’m not letting you walk out here like this. It’s cold.” He said and turned the corner and continued driving beside me. “You and Camilla are perfect for each other. I’d rather be let you be.”“Camilla is an ass. You know that,” he said. “Please get in the car Riley.” I walked faster. He rolled the car alongside me. “Your shirt is very short.” That stopped me. Only for a second. I clutched the hem of the shirt tighter around my thighs and kept moving.By the time I got to my apartment, I was trembling. Not from the cold—but from every damn emotion I di

  • Let Me Go, Boss!   90: never

Jaxs povRiley was still running a hand through her hair when Caleb swooped in like the damn showrunner of my life.“You’re wanted,” he said. “Press is set up just outside the lounge. They need to ask you both questions. It’s a live video and it’ll be aired so please do well.” I nodded and glanced at Riley. “Ready?” I asked. She nodded, her hands pulling my shirt to cover places I’d already memorized with my hands.I straightened and followed Caleb out. Riley stepped beside me, her expression unreadable and cold, almost as if the kiss never happened. Like I didn’t still taste her in the back of my throat. The photographers started firing questions the second we stepped into the light.“Mr. Maddox, is this a real relationship or just clever PR?”“What’s your favorite thing about Riley?”“Have you two moved in together?”“Any baby plans?”Riley tensed beside me. I could see it in the corners of her mouth. But I didn’t miss a beat. I answered fast, steady.“She’s loyal.”“She challen

  • Let Me Go, Boss!   89: I’ll pretend

Riley’s PovMy legs were tangled in sheets that smelled faintly like Jax—clean, sharp and maddening. Everything about Jax lingered too long. His scent. His voice. The way he kissed like he wanted to ruin me.I sat up, rubbing my eyes. The shirt I wore had slipped off one shoulder. It was one of Jax’s black oversized, and absolutely intentional for the photo ops. I had no pants on. Just long legs and PR-approved seduction. I could practically hear Caleb’s voice ringing in my head: We need domestic shots. Cozy. Intimate. But tasteful.Cozy, my ass.I walked into the hallway barefoot, pulling the shirt down as I went. I didn’t even bother fixing my hair. Let the cameras catch me “naturally glowing” from a fake night of fake passion. The scent of coffee hit me before I turned the corner. And then I saw him.Jax was standing in the kitchen in nothing but gray sweatpants, flipping pancakes like some kind of reformed bad boy on a cooking show. His back was broad, his abs perfectly carved. Hi
