Hazel's POV

I sat on the sofa for a long time, watching Nicholas still holding my proposal. I could tell his mind was working hard, considering something. But before he could say anything more, I took a deep breath and quietly said, “Nicholas… I know this sounds sudden, but how about we have dinner tonight? Just you and me. We can talk more casually.”

Nicholas looked up, his eyes showing surprise. “Dinner?” he asked, as if he couldn’t believe what he just heard.

“Yes,” I replied, trying to sound convincing. “I think we need to discuss everything in a calmer way. Without pressure.”

He paused for a moment, contemplating my offer. I could feel the tension between us, but there was also hope. Maybe this was an opportunity to open a better line of communication.

His expression changed immediately, and I could see the tension between us. After a long pause, he looked away from me, as if searching for a reason to avoid it. I already suspected w

Hazel's POV “One more step,” I whispered to myself, trying to reassure myself. Every second felt like an eternity as we drove toward where Charlie was.I imagined how he would react when he saw me.Would he smile?Or maybe just look at me in confusion?Whatever happened, I knew I had to be ready. Tonight, I would fight to be a part of his life again, even if just for a moment. The car moved smoothly under the evening sky that was beginning to yellow. Through the window, the tall buildings and city traffic moved slowly, contrasting with the turmoil inside my chest. Nicholas remained silent for several minutes, focused on driving, and for some reason, I felt awkward. We used to be so close, knowing each other inside out. But now, everything felt like walking on a thin line.“Charlie… he’s healthy, right?” I finally asked, trying to break the heavy silence.Nicholas nodded without looking. “He’s good. Very active. And…

Hazel's POV I turned to look at Nicholas, a bit hesitant. I knew this request might be too sudden. But I also knew how precious this time was, how every minute with Charlie was a chance that might not come again.Nicholas stared at both of us for a long time before finally nodding slowly. “If Charlie wants to, of course,” he said in a calm voice. “We can have dinner together.”I could hardly believe it. “Thank you,” I murmured quietly, more to Nicholas, even though I knew he heard me.Charlie smiled again. “Dinner for three? With Mommy Hazel and Daddy Nicholas?” he asked innocently.I nodded with slightly puffy eyes, gently ruffling his hair. “Yes, sweetheart. Just the three of us.”“Can I have spaghetti?” he asked excitedly.I laughed softly, a sound I had almost forgotten. “Of course, you can choose anything you want.”The three of us walked toward Nicholas's car. For the first time in a long time, my steps f

Hazel's POV We had just exited the restaurant when Charlie suddenly slowed his steps. His hand, which had been tightly holding mine, slowly slipped away. He turned to look at Nicholas, who was walking behind us. I glanced at the small face that now looked hesitant, his lips seemingly wanting to say something, but he remained silent.I bent down slightly to match his height and gently asked, “Charlie, do you want to go to the playground for a bit? It’s not far from here, just a five-minute walk. I saw something fun earlier.”Charlie looked at me, then turned his gaze back to Nicholas, as if seeking approval. In that silence, my heart felt heavy. I knew that my return to their lives was not something easy for a child to process. But when I saw Nicholas nod slowly, my heart warmed. He didn’t say anything, just looked at Charlie with a slight smile. That moment felt full of hope, and I could see Charlie relax a bit.Charlie turned back to me

This is great for him,” he said.“Yes, it really is,” I replied, feeling warmth in my heart.Nicholas and I stood on the sidelines, exchanging smiles as we watched our child’s delight.“Look at me, Mom! Look, Dad!” Charlie shouted as he attempted a small somersault.I clapped my hands and cheered, “That’s amazing, sweetheart!” My voice was full of excitement, accompanying his joy.Seeing him so enthusiastic made me want to capture the moment in a video. Hazel's POV Carefully, I leaned down and kissed Charlie on the forehead. “Goodnight, sweetheart... Mommy Hazel loves you so much,” I whispered softly, trying to hold back the surge of emotions pressing from within.I took a deep breath, then opened the door and got out of the car. Outside, the night air touched my face, bringing a slight chill that didn’t come from the weather but from the heavy heart of leaving my son.Nicholas got out as well and looked at me with an unreadable expression. “Thank you... for giving me this time,” I said, my voice slightly trembling. He simply nodded. “See you, Hazel.”I stood there, watching the car slowly pull away from the parking lot, taking my sleeping child with it. And as the taillights disappeared around the corner, I felt as if a part of me was leaving with him.My steps felt heavy as I entered the apartment. Sabrina's POVI waited in the living room, watching the clock on the wall move painfully slow. It was past nine in the evening, and the house was still quiet. Just a moment ago, I heard the door open and Nicholas's careful footsteps as he carried a sleeping Charlie in his arms.I watched them in silence, holding back the anger that had been rumbling in my chest.“He's back,” I said, my tone icy. My eyes never left Nicholas's face.He turned quickly, perhaps sensing the tone in my voice. “He fell asleep after playing…”“I know he fell asleep,” I cut in sharply. “What I don’t understand is why you took Hazel to meet Charlie… even coming home this late.”Nicholas's face hardened for a moment. He avoided my gaze and walked slowly toward Charlie’s room. I followed behind, watching him lay Charlie down carefully, cover him with a blanket, then stand back with a long sigh.Seeing Nicholas so calm while holding Charlie made me f

Sabrina's POV I stepped closer, bent down for a moment, then sat on the edge of Charlie’s bed. The little one was still sound asleep, unaware that he had become the center of my worries tonight. Seeing his peaceful face made me feel calmer, even though the weight in my heart still lingered.Nicholas stood by the door, looking contemplative. I could sense the depth of our feelings. We were both parents trying to do what was best for Charlie, even though sometimes our ways were different.I turned my gaze to Nicholas, trying to find a way to bridge our feelings. “We need to be better at communicating,” I said softly, hoping to open the door to a more constructive discussion.Nicholas nodded, as if he agreed with what I was saying. A sense of guilt began to envelop my heart, reminding me that we both just wanted to protect Charlie, even though we often got caught up in differing perspectives. The tense atmosphere began to so

Sabrina's POV My eyes lingered on his face longer than usual. I knew that the fear I had expressed to Nicholas wasn’t just an ordinary worry. I truly didn’t want to lose this child. Charlie meant everything to me. He might not be my biological child, but my love for him had surpassed the boundaries of blood and birth ties. My gaze fell on an object at the edge of the bed. A small toy robot from Hazel. I reached out and gently grabbed it. The toy was still lit, its light blinking softly. Charlie must have been so happy earlier. I could imagine his face when he received it directly from Hazel. But because of that, my feelings churned again. There was a faint yet piercing wound. I stared at the toy, then back at Charlie’s face. I gently caressed his cheek. “I’m sorry if I was selfish earlier,” I whispered softly, more to myself. “I was just scared. So scared…” I took a deep breath

Sabrina’s POV That night the hospital room felt different. It was no longer silent and frightening like the previous nights when I could only sit and stare at Nicholas, unconscious, with the fear of losing him. Now, Charlie's small laughter filled the room, and Nicholas's smile, though weak, began to return to his face.Charlie sat beside me, cheerful and full of energy despite the situation. He held his father's hand, as if wanting to convey all the love and longing that had been pent up. “Daddy, I missed you!” he exclaimed, his face shining with happiness.Nicholas looked at our child with eyes that were starting to come alive again. “I missed you too, sweetheart,” he replied, his voice still hoarse, but there was warmth in it. Seeing that interaction filled my heart with gratitude and hope. The atmosphere in the room now felt warm, filled with laughter and love. Sabrina’s POV That… should have been me there. I should have been the one carrying Charlie when he entered the room, sitting him on the bed, witnessing this touching reunion between father and son. But I stood behind the door, like an uninvited guest in my own family.I finally took a deep breath, holding back my emotions, and then stepped inside slowly. “I’m glad you’re awake,” I said softly, looking at Nicholas. He turned, momentarily surprised. “Sabrina…” Charlie waved at me from the bed. “Mom! Daddy is awake!” I smiled at Charlie and gently stroked his head. “Yes, sweetheart, Mom sees.” Hazel stepped back a bit to give us space, and I stared intently at Nicholas. His face was still pale, his body still weak, but he was alive. He was back with us. And that was the only thing I wanted to hold onto right now.But on the other hand… I couldn’t lie. There was a part of me that began to wonder about Hazel’s position in all this

Every second we spent together felt incredibly precious.“Am I in the hospital?” he asked in a hoarse voice.I nodded, holding back tears. “You had an accident. But now you’re safe.” Hearing his voice, though weak, gave me new hope.He looked deeply into my eyes, as if trying to understand everything that had happened

Sabrina’s POV I sat in the corner of the ICU room, still holding Nicholas's cold and weak hand. His body looked so calm, too calm for someone who usually couldn't sit still for even a moment. The medical equipment continued to beep in the same rhythm, the only evidence that he was still holding on to this world. My heart broke seeing him like this. Each beep of the machine seemed to emphasize how fragile life is. I wanted to scream, to shake him awake, but I knew that was impossible. There was only suffocating silence. Tears streamed down my cheeks as I recalled all the beautiful memories we shared. His sweet smile, the laughter that always warmed my heart, and all the precious moments with Charlie. Now, all of that felt distant. There was only sadness and dwindling hope. I whispered his name, hoping my voice could reach his soul. "Nicholas, I'm here. Please don't leave me." My voice trembled, filled with uncertainty. I wa

Hazel's POV The morning sunlight filtered through the window curtains and touched my cheek. I slowly woke up, my body still stiff from sleeping on the carpeted floor all night. As my vision began to focus, I looked down and found Charlie still asleep in my lap, his little face looking peaceful, his breathing steady.Suddenly, I felt calm… and guilty. Last night, I almost lost control. I wanted to force my presence in Charlie’s life, to prove that I could be a part of his family. But it seemed that a little child didn’t need proof. What he needed was warmth, attention… and people who made him feel safe.My hand moved slowly to stroke his hair. “I’m sorry, sweetheart… Mommy Hazel is still learning,” I whispered softly.I sat there for quite a while, watching him. A part of me wanted to hold him in this embrace forever. But I also knew this wasn’t the complete home he remembered. There was no warm bed he used to share with both his parent

Hazel's POV The story took us to a world full of adventure and wonder. In moments like this, I felt stronger, and I knew that the love we shared could overcome many things. When the story finished, Charlie yawned and rested his head on my shoulder. “I love you, Mommy,” he said softly.“I love you too, sweetie,” I replied, feeling a deep emotion. “Now wait a moment! Mommy will cook for you.”Charlie simply nodded.I walked back to the kitchen, cutting vegetables slowly, trying to recall all the recipes I used to make. It had been a long time since I cooked for anyone. Usually, I just ate whatever or ordered takeout. But tonight was different. Tonight, Charlie was with me.Every slice of vegetable reminded me of the beautiful moments we shared cooking together at home. The sounds of laughter and little stories flowed as we both tried to make simple dishes. Now, with Charlie beside me, I wanted to recreate that atmosphere.

Hazel's POVI held Charlie tightly as we left the hospital. My steps were slow, careful not to wake the child who was still leaning on my shoulder, his eyes half-closed from exhaustion and overwhelming emotions. The night air felt humid and cold, but somehow, Charlie’s small embrace warmed my heart. Each step felt heavy, reflecting the burden in my mind. Nicholas was in a coma, and everything at stake—I couldn’t stop thinking about how his fate would affect us all.“Mommy Hazel?” Charlie’s soft voice broke the silence. “Will Daddy be okay?”My heart felt squeezed. “I hope so, sweetie. We all hope so,” I replied, trying to sound optimistic. He nodded slowly, but his face showed doubt. “We can take him home, right? So he’s not alone?”Tears almost fell down my cheeks. “We will do our best, Charlie. We’re always here for him.”As we continued our journey, my thoughts returned to Andrian and everything he had said.

Hazel's POV I looked toward the ICU room, where the man who once was so close to me now fought between life and death. Then my eyes met Sabrina’s. There were no words, just a gaze full of pain and accusation. And I couldn’t defend myself. Because much of it... was true. I still held Charlie tightly, trying to hold back the tears that kept welling in my eyes. That small body shivered in my embrace, filled with worries he shouldn’t have to feel at such a young age. I wanted to say that everything would be okay, but I wasn’t sure about that myself.Slow footsteps approached. I didn’t need to turn around to know who was standing in front of me now.“Hazel, how did you know Nicholas was here?” Sabrina’s voice was soft yet sharp. Cold. And very measured.I swallowed hard. It felt like a heavy stone was lodged in my throat. I didn’t know how to answer her. I couldn’t say that I heard everything from Andrian. I couldn’t admit that most

Hazel's POV Andrian looked at me, his eyes showing firmness. “Sometimes, we have to make tough decisions. This isn’t just about us, it’s about survival.”I felt tears welling in my eyes. “But what’s the price we have to pay? I can’t sacrifice others just to get what I want.”Andrian gave a thin smile. “Congratulations, Hazel. Now your path to getting Charlie is wide open. Sabrina won’t be able to keep custody with all of this happening to her.”SLAP! My hand flew to his cheek before I could think twice. The sound of the slap echoed in my room. Andrian fell silent. I trembled, unsure how I could have done that. But one thing was certain, I couldn’t let him speak any further. “You’re really evil…” my voice trembled with anger and shock. “This—this isn’t a solution, Andrian. This is a disaster. This… is the destruction of someone’s life!” He didn’t respond. His gaze was cold, perhaps even a little mocking. I glared at him before turning
