Chapter 8

Zayne grabbed the young blonde by the shoulders, his voice low and urgent. "Where is she? Where's Wendy now?"

The young woman was startled by his sudden move, and it took her a while to mutter, "She… she left for Nord last week, for a research exchange program."

Nord?

The word sent a jolt through Zayne. He remembered mocking my application form previously. What had he said back then?

"Nord? It's so cold there, the climate's terrible, you wouldn't like it."

I had just lowered my head and gone silent.

Thinking back, my expectation at that moment must have seemed like a joke to him. And now, I had truly gone to that place he had once laughed at.

Zayne felt an unbearable pain in his chest, as if all his strength had been drained away. He let go of the young woman's shoulders, stumbling back a few steps. She looked at him with concern. "Sir, are you alright?"
