The black swallowed everything.

No ground beneath my feet. No sky above. No sound. No light. Just cold — the kind that seeped into my bones and tried to crush me from the inside out.

For one terrifying second, I thought Damon had won. That the Scar had consumed us. That I was nothing now — just another lost soul in his endless night.

But then — a spark.

Kael’s voice.

“Elara.”

It wasn’t loud, but it cut through the dark like a lifeline. I reached for it, for him, and felt his magic wrap around mine, warm and steady.

“Hold on to me,” he said, strained but sure.

I did.

The blackness shifted, thinned — and suddenly we were falling. The Scar wasn’t done with us yet.

Wind screamed past, shadows clawing at us as we plummeted through the heart of Damon’s world. I could see nothing, but I felt the Scar’s hunger. It wanted us broken. It wanted us gone.

Kael’s arms wrapped around me, his power surging against the void, fighting to slow our fall. But the Scar was stronger he

For one terrifying second, I thought Damon had won. That the Scar had consumed us. That I was nothing now — just another lost soul in his endless night. But then — a spark. Kael’s voice. “Elara.” It wasn’t loud, but it cut through the dark like a lifeline. The wind whipped around me, carrying the bitter scent of ash and old magic. Damon’s boots crunched across the dead plain as he closed the distance between us, his smile sharp as broken glass. “This isn’t possible,” I breathed, every nerve in my body on fire. “You shouldn’t be here.” He spread his arms, mockery in every inch of him. “And yet, here I am. You fell into the Scar, Elara. My world. My rules.” I backed away, searching the horizon for any sign of Kael or Ilara. Nothing but endless dusk and jagged rocks. “What did you do to them?” I demanded. Damon’s eyes gleamed, hungry and cold. “They’re where they belong. Apart from you.” I forced calm into my voice. “You can’t keep me here.” “Oh, but I can.” He stepped closer, and the ground itself seemed to bend beneath his feet, shadows pooling around him. “I’ve been waiting for this. For you. The Scar feeds on power, Elara. And your power? It was always meant for me.” I clenched my fists, feeling the Luna magic surge in

“Elara… help me…” Her voice echoed, faint and trembling, as if carried on the last breath of the dying wind. The place where the scar had sealed still glowed faintly, as though it remembered Ilara’s touch, her sacrifice. I pressed my palms to the earth, willing it to open, to give her back. But it didn’t yield. The ground felt cold, dead. Like the scar had devoured its last hope. Kael crouched beside me, his jaw clenched, his eyes dark and stormy. He touched the place where the crack had been, his fingers trembling. “She’s alive. I felt her. Through the bond.” “So did I,” I whispered. “But for how long?” He didn’t answer. He didn’t have to. The night grew colder. The forest around us seemed to shrink, as if afraid of what we might do next. “We can’t leave her in there.” My voice shook, fury and fear battling for control. “We can’t.” Kael met my gaze. His decision was already made — I saw it in his eyes. “Then we go in after her.” The words should have terrified me. M

The earth groaned beneath us, the crack splitting wider with a thunderous roar. Stones shattered, roots snapped, and the wind howled like the ghosts of a thousand fallen wolves. Kael clutched the creature tighter. His chest heaved, his arms trembling from the effort of holding onto both it and his sanity. “Elara…” His voice was ragged, wild with disbelief. “It’s not a baby.” I didn’t need him to tell me that. The thing in his arms blinked up at him with those void-dark eyes, so deep I could swear they pulled at the edges of my soul. Its skin, pale as bone, shimmered like moonlight on black water. And that smile — gods, that smile — stretched too wide for any child’s face, thin and sharp and knowing. “Put it down,” I said, my voice tight, cold. “Kael — put it down. Now.” But he couldn’t move. His body locked, like the creature’s magic rooted him to the spot. “I can’t,” he gritted. “It’s in my head. It’s—” The creature’s tiny hand brushed Kael’s cheek. And I felt it then —

The wail echoed again, thin and heart-wrenching, floating up from the crack in the earth. The sound didn’t belong here — not in this broken, cursed forest, not beneath a scar left by the void. Kael’s body tensed beside me, muscles coiled, ready to defend, but his eyes betrayed him. That sound — it was primal, cutting deeper than any enemy’s blade could. “Elara…” His voice was rough, torn between duty and instinct. “We can’t just stand here.” “I know.” My pulse thundered in my ears. “But it’s a trick. It has to be.” The crack widened, just enough for the cry to grow louder. The ground trembled beneath our boots. Kael took a step forward. “No!” I grabbed his arm. “Think, Kael. There can’t be a baby down there. That thing — the void — it’s playing us.” But his gaze locked on mine, fierce, desperate. “What if it’s not?” We argued with our eyes in that heartbeat — me, begging him to see sense, him, unable to ignore the call of something helpless. And then I felt it — a pu

The stars dimmed as the Moon God vanished into the night, his silver form dissolving into mist. The forest was eerily quiet, the air heavy with the residue of battle. Kael’s weight sagged against me, his breathing ragged, but alive. His eyes searched mine, wild and haunted. “Elara… is it over?” I wanted to say yes. I wanted to believe the crack sealed, the creature banished, the nightmare done. But I couldn’t lie. Not to him. Not to myself. “No,” I whispered. “It’s just beginning.” The earth beneath us pulsed, as if the void had left a heartbeat in its wake. A low thrum, faint but steady. The crack was closed, but not healed. The scar ran deep. Kael shivered, and I helped him to his feet. His strength was returning, but too slowly. “Come on,” I said, glancing at the horizon where dawn threatened to break. “We need to get out of here before something else crawls through.” We stumbled through the forest, every shadow seeming to breathe, every rustle setting my nerves o
