The air stank of death and stardust.

Necros shed Damon’s face like a discarded mask. The creature before me was unholy—its form barely held together by what was left of the stolen relic’s power. Horns curled from his skull, and wings made of shadow and bone cracked through his back. His mouth split open, revealing rows of jagged teeth that whispered forgotten names.

I could feel the ground rejecting him.

Even the mountain wanted him gone.

Kael stood behind me, pale and reeling. The bond between us had been severed, not just broken but erased—as if it had never been.

I still felt him.

Every heartbeat, every breath.

But it wasn’t tethered to mine anymore.

We were two separate souls in a war-torn room, and that emptiness echoed louder than Necros’s roar.

“You played your role well,” Necros rasped. “Purified the relic. Fulfilled the cycle.”

I steadied my stance, the Luna Star glowing with cold silver in my hand.

“I didn’t do it for you.”

“But you did it,” he hissed, voice like

Kael’s body hovered in midair, frozen like a statue of agony. His hand reached for me. His lips parted in a silent scream. And behind him, Necros stood calm as death. His fingers tightened around the corrupted Luna Star—its silver sheen dimmed to an eerie, bleeding gold. Shadows curled around it like veins. “I warned you,” Necros said, voice silk and venom. “You defied me in the Mirrorlands. Now you’ll watch him die.” I couldn’t breathe. I couldn’t blink. But I could burn. The Blade of Veyra reappeared in my hand like it had been waiting. It pulsed with fury—mine and the moon’s. I charged. Necros raised the relic. It glowed—flooding the temple with a blinding light. But I didn’t stop. His magic hit me like a tidal wave. It should have crushed me. Should have ripped my mind apart. Instead—something awoke. White-hot light exploded from my chest. Time fractured around me. And suddenly, I was back in the Mirrorlands—but not surrounded by reflections. This was different.

Swords clashed like thunder in the shattered city of glass. I spun, ducked, rolled—barely dodging a swipe from a version of myself cloaked in midnight and shadow. Her hair was silver fire, her eyes cold as frost. Around me, dozens of Elaras fought like gods. One summoned storms with a flick of her fingers. Another controlled vines laced with silver thorns. One walked through the battlefield barefoot and left a trail of burning stars. And every single one of them wanted me gone. Kael fought at my side, wild and furious. He cut through a Luna cloaked in flame only for her to reform from the ash, snarling. “Elara, these aren’t visions!” he shouted. “They’re real!” “No,” I breathed, deflecting a blow from the Elara who wore Necros’s black crown. “They’re possibilities. And they want me to fail.” A voice echoed through the broken sky: “Only one Luna may remain.” One of the mirror Elaras lunged. I caught her blade on mine—but the moment I touched her, memories flooded my mind.

We stood on the cliff’s edge, the rip in the sky bleeding gold and shadow across the mountainside. Necros had crossed the barrier between realms—and behind him, an army moved with mechanical precision. Creatures made of starlight twisted into nightmare shapes. Wolves that walked on air. Eyes with no faces. Silence that screamed. And still… the Mirrorlands called. “The veil’s been breached,” Solen said grimly. “He’s no longer bound by this world’s laws.” Kael held my hand tighter. “What does he want there?” I looked to the east, where the horizon shimmered like water. “Not what,” I murmured. “Who.” We left at dawn. Arayen carried Solen and Lyra skyward to warn the other courts. Kael and I journeyed alone, on foot, through the jagged wastelands that bordered the Mirrorlands. As we walked, the world around us began to… bend. The air tasted like memories. Time curled around us, folding in on itself. At the threshold of the realm, an archway formed—carved from silver bones, dri

The cavern trembled under the weight of destiny. Shadows writhed across the entrance like snakes made of smoke and hunger. Their source—Necros—was still cloaked in Damon’s form, but that body was cracking. Too fragile to contain the god rotting inside it. He stood just beyond the archway of the Sanctum, armies of twisted, eyeless wolves at his heels. And yet—I wasn’t afraid. Not with Kael at my side. Not with the Blade of Veyra pulsing in my grip. And not with Arayen, the First Beast, unfurling its massive wings of burning stardust behind me. Necros stepped into the light, the stone floor blackening beneath his bare feet. “You found it,” he said. “The Beast. The blade. The crown.” “Not found,” I said, voice steady. “Claimed.” Kael lifted his sword. “If you want her, you’ll have to get through all of us.” Necros tilted his head. “That was always the plan.” He raised a single hand. And the wolves charged. They didn’t bark. They didn’t growl. They screamed—high, human-pitc

The howl rolled through the mountain like thunder laced with teeth. It didn’t sound like a wolf. It sounded like the end of everything. I staggered back, the blade in my hand pulsing like it had a heartbeat of its own. Silver light ran up my arms, through my veins, into my skull. Kael caught me before I hit the stone. “Elara! What is it? What’s happening?” “I—” My voice was hoarse, the words ripped from my throat. “I think… I think it’s calling me.” Solen had gone deathly pale. “That shouldn’t be possible. The First Beast hasn’t stirred since the Age of Silence.” “Well,” Lyra said dryly, “it just howled at us. I’d say it’s fully awake.” We all turned as a massive crack split the far wall of the Sanctum. Behind it—ancient stairs, descending into a pit that bled silver mist. The air around us grew heavy, each breath thick with old magic and buried rage. Solen backed away. “We shouldn’t go down there.” Kael stepped forward. “We don’t have a choice, do we?” I met Solen’s eyes
