Maggie's POV

We were being chased, by someone unknown. My chest. The pendant hadn't stopped burning, instead it had intensified, now burning like molten iron.

My eyes closed, every strength in me trying to suppress the pain. Maverick's eyes came to me, terrified. But his hands didn't leave the wheel.

"Maggie?” He wanted to make sure I was okay, but I wasn't.

It was hurting, so fucking much. “It's….. it's…rejecting the suppression” My voice came in ragged gasps as I held my stomach.

“You will be fine, Maggie. You will” he was trying to convince himself, and honestly, I also didn't know.

The baby was being too much to bear, the pain too painful, too overwhelming. A glow came from my stomach again, this time, much brighter than it had ever been.

It made me panic. I was putting us in danger, wanting to let the humans know about our existence.

My eyes flicked for a moment as it darted to the cars around us.
